Zahedan Central Prison: 6 Untimely Deaths in 7 Months

Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) – A 50-year-old man died within a day of his arrival to Zahedan Central Prison on October 27th due to untreated gastrointestinal issues.

He was reportedly suffering from severe diarrhea when he was transferred from quarantine to Ward 6. He received no medical care and died later that night.

HRANA is in the process of confirming the identity of this prisoner, the sixth in the past seven months to die in the custody of authorities at Zahedan Central Prison.

Despite a dearth of medical staff, supplies, and equipment, Zahedan Central has been reluctant to transfer prisoners to outside hospitals, even when that transfer is a matter of life or death.

[Counting from March 2018, the Iranian New Year], this deceased prisoner was preceded in death by the following five Zahedan inmates:

· Abdolnabi Saresi, died September 28th of an untreated illness
· Gholamreza Goul of Ward 6, died September 15
· Ramin Dokaleh of Ward 1, died May 31st
· Gholam Nab Reigi of Ward 5, died May 29th
· Nasir Zoraghi of Ward 8, died in May of untreated cardiac disease

Zahedan is the capital of the Southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan and home to the Baloch ethnic minority.

A Prisoner Severely Beaten in Zahedan Prison

HRANA News Agency – Mehdi Narouee, prisoner in the central prison of Zahedan, has been severely beaten by the head of prison. The beating was so severe that it broke his fingers and injured his face.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Mehdi Narouee, prisoner in the central prison of Zahedan, was severely beaten by Mohammd Ali Alizadeh, head of prison, after he protested against the disagreement with his furlough and his request for visits by prison judge on March 5, 2018. A Prisoner Beaten and Left in the Yard for 3 Days

HRANA News Agency – Abdul Hakim Chakeri who has been imprisoned at Zahedan’s Central Prison from 19 months ago, after returning from a visit was insulted and beaten by prison staff due to his protest against the method of physical inspection. The prison authorities made him naked, handcuffed and shackled him, and beat him badly, and despite the bad physical condition, kept him in the ward’s yard for three days.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Abdul Hakim Chakeri, a security prisoner in the Central Prison of Zahedan, who has been detained for more than 19 months since he was arrested on charge of “acting against the national security”, after returning from a visit and insistence of two prison guards for physical inspection, was insulted and beaten by them, and was kept in the yard for three days. Pressures Increase on Political Prisoners in Zahedan Prison

HRANA News Agency – After prisoners protested against the inappropriate situation of the Central Prison of Zahedan and the intrusive presence of inspectors of the prisons of the country, Zahedan Central Prison authorities have increased their pressure on prisoners in Ward 3, who are mostly political prisoners. By banning family visits and their phones, and exposing prisoners to extreme cold and taking their blankets and heaters away, they have put prisoners under more pressures.

According to the report of Human Rights Activist News Agency in Iran (HRANA), after prisoners protested against the inappropriate situation of the Central Prison of Zahedan, prison authorities have put more pressures on political prisoners of Ward 3 in this prison by cutting off phone calls and some other actions. A Report about the Situation in the Central Prison of Zahedan

HRANA News Agency – The central prison of Zahedan with a population of more than 3,500 prisoners, faces serious health and medical problems, including lack of access to medical facilities and medical services, as well as a double exclusion from health facilities. Prisoners of this prison suffer from many problems, such as non-separation of crimes and excessive populations. Their protests have had no results so far.

A Prisoner Sent to Quarantine for Disability to Pay for the Medical Treatment

HRANA News Agency – A death row prisoner in central prison of Zahedan who suffered from pain and illness in the eye, was harassed and exiled to the quarantine ward by the order of authorities when he could not pay 800000 IRR for the cost of the test.

8 Prisoners Executed in Zahedan

HRANA News Agency – 8 prisoners, 5 of whom were charged with drug related crimes and three others with murder, were executed in two days in Zahedan Prison.

A Report about the Conditions in Central Prison of Zahedan

HRANA News Agency – Zahedan prison with more than two thousand prisoners and about 350 death row prisoners is considered as one of the great centers of human rights violations in Iran.

A Prisoner at Zahedan Prison Died because of Lack of Medical Treatment

HRANA News Agency – One of the prisoners of central prison of Zahedan, who was imprisoned for minor crimes, died – according to other prisoners – due to disease and medical negligence. Wardens did not take the corps out of ward from 7am to 10am.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), a prisoner who was imprisoned for minor crimes, was found dead on Wednesday, January 14, at 7am, in ward number 5 of central prison of Zahedan and authorities refused to take the corps out of the ward till 10 am. (more…)
