Media Activist Hossein Razzagh Sentenced to 74 Lashes on Appeal

The lashing sentence for Hossein Razzagh, a media activist, has been upheld by the Tehran Province Court of Appeals. He was initially sentenced by the Tehran Revolutionary Court to 74 lashes for “absence and failure to report to Amol Prison.”

In April this year, while Razzagh was serving his sentence in Ward 209 of Evin Prison, he was sentenced to 74 lashes by the Tehran Revolutionary Court. A source close to Mr. Razzagh’s family told HRANA that the reason for this sentence was “absence and failure to report to Amol Prison.”

Razzagh was released from Evin Prison on June 10. Emtedad Online, which reported his release, did not provide any details about the manner and conditions of his release.

On August 22, 2022, Razzagh was arrested by security forces in Amol concerning his previous case. In September of 2022, he was charged with a new case against him and was sentenced to four years and three months in prison by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court in April 2023. Additionally, he was charged in June 2023 in another case.

Hossein Razzagh has previously faced arrest and judicial actions for his activities.

Media Activist Hossein Razzagh Sentenced to Four Years and Three Months

The Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced media activist Hossein Razzagh to four years and three months in a legal case opened against him while he was in prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, media Activist Hossein Razzagh was sentenced to imprisonment.

Razzagh was convicted of “assembly and collusion against national security and propaganda against the regime.”

According to this media activist, “if the verdict is upheld on appeal, based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, three years and seven months will be enforceable.”

On August 21, 2022, security forces arrested Razzagh in Amol for his previous legal case, and a while later, he was arraigned for a new case. In March 2023, he went on furlough.

Razzagh faced other arrests for his civil activities on prior occasions.

Hossein Razzagh Arrested in Amol

On August 21, 2022, security forces arrested media activist Hossein Razzagh in Amol and transferred him to an unidentified location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists,  media activist Hossein Razzagh was arrested in Amol, Mazandaran Province.

Razzagh’s lawyer, Saeed Dehghan announced the arrest on his social media page, saying that the Amol prosecutor had called and summoned Razzagh and he was later arrested while riding in a taxi and transferred him to an unidentified location.”

The reason for this arrest and the charges are unknown so far.

Media Activist Hossein Razzagh Arrested in Amol City

Media activist Hossein Razzagh was arrested at his home on Sunday, December 5. Agents of the Ministry of Intelligence arrested Razzagh, searched his house and confiscated personal belongings.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Razzagh was arrested at home in Amol City. Personal belongings, including all his communication devices, were confiscated. The day after, the security forces informed his family about his relocation from Amol to Sari City.

The reason for his arrest is still unknown at the time of writing. During arrest, he was allowed a call to his family.
