Execution of Three Prisoners in Jiroft Prison on Drug-Related Charges

Yesterday, December 26, three prisoners were executed in Jiroft Prison on charges related to drug offenses.

According to Kurdpa, the identities of two of them have been confirmed as “As’ad Amini, 27, from Sardasht, and Saman Fakhri, 33, from Baneh.” The report states that these two prisoners had been arrested in Jiroft in connection with a joint case involving drug-related offenses and were sentenced to death by the judiciary.
HRANA has identified the third individual as Jasem Jahan Tigh, an Afghan national. Mr. Jahan Tigh had also been previously sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

As of the time of this report, the executions have not been announced by prison officials or the relevant authorities.

In 2024, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran documented 777 cases related to the right to life, including the sentencing of 207 individuals to death and the execution of 883 individuals. Among these, 4 executions were carried out in public. Of those executed, 772 were male, 26 were female, and 5 were juvenile offenders—individuals under 18 years old at the time of their alleged crimes.

Prisoner Executed at Jiroft Prison on Murder Charges

At dawn today, October 30, a prisoner previously sentenced to death on murder charges was executed in Jiroft Prison, Kerman Province.

The prisoner has been identified by HRANA as “Ahmad Salari.” Mr. Salari was arrested ten years ago on murder charges and subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary.

As of the time of this report, prison officials and relevant authorities have not publicly announced the execution.

According to latest HRANA’s annual report over between October 10, 2023, and October 8, 2024, at least 811 individuals were executed by hanging in Iran, rising to 23.06% compared to the same period last year. Of these executions, four were carried out in public. Many of the defendants were denied a fair trial.

Prisoner Executed in Jiroft Prison

A prisoner sentenced to death for murder has been executed in Jiroft Prison, Kerman Province, according to HRANA.

The prisoner has been identified as Yaser Balandeh, who was previously convicted on murder charges.

At the time of this report, prison authorities and relevant institutions have yet to officially confirm the execution.

According to the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran, in 2023, at least 767 citizens, including 21 women and 2 juvenile offenders, were executed. Of these, the executions of 7 individuals were carried out in public. Additionally, during this period, 172 others were sentenced to death, with 5 of them sentenced to public execution. It is worth noting that during the same period, the initial death sentences of 49 other individuals were also upheld by the Supreme Court.

Two Inmates Executed in Kerman and Jiroft

Last Thursday, June 23, 2022, an inmate convicted previously of murder was executed in Kerman Prison. One day prior, on June 22, another inmate convicted of murder was also executed in Jiroft, Kerman Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Haal Vsh, an Afghan national identified as Jilan Noorzehi was executed in Kerman prison.

Haal Vsh also reported the execution of Yousef Sanjari, a resident of Eslamabad, in Jiroft Prison.

Both were previously sentenced to death on the charge of murder.

None of these executions has been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far. 

The most recent report from the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between January 1 of 2021 and December 20 of 2021, at least 299 citizens, including four juvenile offenders, were executed. In addition, 85 citizens were sentenced to death in this period. 

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 88% of executions. These unreported executions are known as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

Prisoner Released from Gallows After Forgiveness from Parents

A prisoner in the city of Jiroft in Kerman Province, who had previously been sentenced to death for the murder of his brother, was released from the gallows after his family expressed their forgiveness.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rokna News, a prisoner in the city of Jiroft in Kerman Province was saved from execution following the pardon of his parents.

Mohammad Reza Sharifi, head of the Jiroft Prison Administration, commented on the reversal of the prisoner’s fate.

“With the efforts of the Dispute Resolution Council and the Peace and Reconciliation Committee of the prison, the family of the victim, including his parents, wife, and children, expressed their consent and forgiveness,” Sharifi added, “and the prisoner was released from execution.”

Sharifi stated that the prisoner had murdered his brother with a firearm in one of the villages of Jiroft city in September 2019 due to family disputes, and had been in Jiroft Prison for almost 2 years.

“Due to the consent of the parents, the imprisonment due to the general aspect of the crime was reduced from ten years to three years with a reduction of the sentence, and during the meeting of the prison classification council, it was agreed to employ this prisoner.”
