Mohammad Hossein Mohebizadeh Sentenced to Prison on Political Charges

Mohammad-Hossein Mohebizadeh, a resident of Joveyn County in Khorasan Razavi Province, has been sentenced to 22 months and 17 days in prison.

The verdict was recently issued by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Joveyn County, presided over by Judge Mohammad Mohammadzadeh. Mohebizadeh was sentenced to 15 months and one day for “insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic” and an additional seven months and 16 days for “propaganda against the regime,” bringing his total sentence to 22 months and 17 days.

According to HRANA, an independent human rights news agency, Mohebizadeh had previously been sentenced to two years in prison by the 101st Branch of the Criminal Court of Joveyn County on May 7 of this year for “blasphemy.” This ruling was upheld by the Khorasan Razavi Provincial Appeals Court on July 24, 2024.

Mohebizadeh was arrested in April after being summoned to the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Joveyn County. He was transferred to Sabzevar prison but released after four days upon posting bail of 2 billion tomans.

This is not the first time Mohebizadeh has faced legal action due to his activities.

Inmate Executed in Sabzevar Prison

On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, an inmate who was convicted of murder was executed in Sabzevar, Khorasan Razavi Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Sabzevar Payam news outlet, on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, the execution of an unidentified inmate in Sabzevar prison was carried out.

The public revolutionary prosecutor, Ja’afar Tayar Saberi made the following comment about this execution: “This prisoner had been arrested for murder in 2018. His case went through all legal courses and the Supreme Court confirmed the death sentence. Subsequently, the execution was carried out this morning.”

The report did not reveal the inmate’s identity.

The most recent report from the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between January 1 of 2021 and December 20 of 2021, at least 299 citizens, including four juvenile offenders, were executed. In addition, 85 citizens were sentenced to death in this period.

Death Sentences Issued to Defendant in Mashhad

A defendant was sentenced to two death sentences by the Fifth Branch of the Criminal Court of Khorasan Razavi Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Khorasan newspaper, the defendant was sentenced on a charge of double homicide.

According to this report, the convicted is a 45-year-old man named Mahdi who, with the help of his friends, killed two people with a firearm.

The Court of Khorasan Razavi sentenced the other defendants to imprisonment and deportation on charges such as assisting in murder and carrying and keeping weapons.

The verdicts issued by the court can still be appealed in the Supreme Court.
