Singer Behrad Ali Kanari Sent to Prison to Serve His Sentence

Behrad Ali Kanari, arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022, has been jailed in Qom Prison.on Saturday, August 24, 2024, to start serving a six-month prison term.

In a video message, Mr. Ali Kanari announced that he was recently sentenced to six months in prison by the judiciary on charges of “propaganda against the regime through cooperation with anti-regime media.” On Saturday, August 24, 2024, he was sent to Qom Prison to serve his sentence.
Kanari was arrested by security forces on May 13 of this year and was released shortly afterward on bail.
Behrad Ali Kanari, a singer, was among those arrested during the 2022 nationwide protests in the case known as the “murder of Basij member Ruhollah Ajamian.” He was released from the Central Prison of Karaj in April of 2023, following the issuance of a “pardon” directive.

A Prisoner Executed in Qom Prison for Murder

On Monday, July 22nd, a death-row prisoner convicted of murder charges was executed in Qom Prison, according to the Iranian Human Rights Organization.

The identity of this prisoner has been reported as Hassan Fallahi, 30 years old, from Meshkin Dasht, Alborz Porvince.

The report, citing an informed source, stated: “Mr. Fallahi was arrested three years ago for the murder of his brother-in-law due to personal disputes and was sentenced to death by the judiciary.”

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by prison officials and relevant authorities.

In 2023, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran registered the execution of 767 individuals. Out of these, 7 were carried out in public. Among the executed individuals whose genders were identified, 21 were female. Additionally, 2 juvenile offenders, defined as individuals under the age of 18 at the time of their alleged crimes, were also executed.

Two Inmates Executed in Qom Prison for Murder and Drug Offenses

On May 26, 2024, Qom Prison in Iran carried out the executions of two inmates convicted of murder and drug-related offenses, as reported by the Iran Human Rights Organization.

The individuals executed were identified as 23-year-old Alireza Arezoomandi from a village in Farahan County, Markazi Province, and 35-year-old Samir (Hamid) Saeedirad from Arak, Markazi Province. Arezoomandi was convicted of murder three years prior, while Saeedirad was found guilty of drug offenses five years earlier.

No official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have provided coverage of these executions at the time of writing. In 2023, 66% of HRANA’s reports on executions lacked official announcements by judicial authorities and went unreported by media inside Iran, highlighting a troubling lack of transparency in due process.

Two Inmates Executed for Murder in Karaj and Qom

Two inmates, both convicted of murder, were executed in separate incidents at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj and Qom Prison, according to recent reports.

The Iran Human Rights Organization reported that on May 5, 2024, an inmate named Ali-Asghar Fallah, approximately 35 years old, was executed at Qom Prison.

Furthermore, Javan Online reported the execution of another inmate, identified only by his first name, Keyvan, on May 1 at Ghezel Hesar Prison. Keyvan was found guilty of a murder committed in Tehran seven years earlier. Alongside him, another inmate sentenced to death for murder, identified by his first name as Farzad, was also scheduled to be executed. However, Farzad received clemency from the family of the victim and was not executed.

Execution of Iraqi National Inmate in Qom

The Iran Human Rights Organization reported the execution of Abuzar Taher Arab, a 38-year-old Iraq-national inmate, in Qom prison on February 12.

Arab, hailing from Mosul, Iraq, had been convicted of murder three years ago.

As of the current writing, no official sources or domestic media outlets in the country have covered this execution. The absence of official information raises concerns regarding transparency and accountability in the execution process.

Inmate Executed in Langerud Prison, Qom Province

On April 4, 2023, an inmate convicted of murder was executed in Langerud Prison, Qom Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Human Rights Organization, on April 4, 2023, an inmate identified as Horeddin Shokri, age 37, was executed in Qom Province.

Shokri reportedly was sentenced to death about four years ago for killing someone in a group fight.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country has reported this execution at the time of writing.

In 2022, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran registered 457 reports related to the death penalty. This included 92 death sentences, including the conviction of 6 people to public execution and 565 execution sentences were carried out, 2 of which have been carried out in public. Based on the announced identifications of some of the executed individuals, 501 were male and 11 were female. In addition, 5 juvenile offenders were executed in 2022, meaning they were under the age of 18 at the time they committed the crime.

 

 

Two Inmates Executed in Arak and Qom Prisons

On August 10, 2022, an inmate convicted of drug-related crimes was executed in Arak Prison and another was executed in Langerud Prison in Qom.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists,  prison officials at Arak Prison executed an inmate who was convicted of drug-related crimes.

HRANA has identified the individual as Mehdi Noor-Karami (Ghadami), 37. 

Haal Vsh also reported the execution of an Afghan nation identified as Hossein Alizadeh, age 21, in Langerud Prison in Qom. Alizadeh was convicted of murder.

These executions have not been reported by the official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

In addition, 85 citizens were sentenced to death in this period. 

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 88% of executions. These unreported executions are known as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

Three Inmates Executed in Isfahan and Qom

Two inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan. Another inmate convicted of murder was executed in Qom Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Haal Vsh, on July 20, 2022, two inmates identified as Dariush Khazai, age about 60, and Mahmood Sadeghian, age 28, were executed in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.

Both individuals were arrested and charged with drug-related crimes in 2019.

Haal Vsh also reported that in Birjand Prison, two death-row inmates charged with drug-related crimes were taken to solitary confinement which happens prior to execution. One of the inmates has been identified as Zabihollah Barahooi, age 38.

Iran Human Rights Organization also reported the execution of an inmate identified as Hamed Sarband, age 32, in Birjand Prison, who was convicted of murder.

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, two inmates who were convicted of drug-related crimes and murder were executed in Qom Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Human Rights Organization, on Saturday, May 7, 2022, quoting the Iran Human Rights Organization, two inmates identified as Yousef Naderi, age 40, and Abolfazl Mardai, age 50, were executed in Qom Prison.

Reportedly, in 2017, Abolfazl Mardai was arrested for drug smuggling on the road connecting Tehran to Qom and subsequently sentenced to death. Yousef Naderi was arrested four years ago for killing a man over a financial dispute.

Neither of the executions have been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

At Least Eight Inmates Executed this week in Multiple Prisons, Including Qom, Kermanshah and Isfahan

This week, at least eight inmates were executed in multiple prisons, including Qom, Kermanshah and Isfahan.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Human Rights, two inmates were executed in Kermanshah Prison on Monday, October 11, four inmates were executed in Isfahan on Tuesday, and two others were executed in Qom Prison on Wednesday.

Two inmates who had been convicted of murder were executed in Diezl-Abad Prison in Kermanshah on Monday, October 11. One of the inmates has been identified as 23-year-old Muhammad Latifi. The report suggests that it is likely more inmates were executed on that day than have been confirmed.

Iran Human Rights also has reported the execution of four inmates in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan. These inmates had been convicted for drug-related crimes.

In another report, on Wednesday, October 13, two inmates, convicted of murder, were executed in Qom Central Prison. One of the inmates has been identified as Ali Amrollahi, a native of Afghanistan. He has been imprisoned since four years ago when he was convicted of “honor killing”.

The most recent report of the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between October 8 of 2020 and October 9 of 2021, at least 266 citizens were executed and 90 citizens were sentenced to death.

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 82% of carried-out executions, dubbed as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

None of these executions have been announced by official sources in Iran as of this writing.
