Prisoner Executed in Torbat-e Heydarieh Prison on Drug-Related Crimes

HRANA – At dawn on Saturday, May 16, the death sentence of a prisoner previously convicted on charges related to drug-related crimes was carried out in Torbat-e Heydarieh Prison.

HRANA has identified the prisoner as 48-year-old Ebrahim Farhadi Toupkanlou, a father of three from Sabzevar, who was hanged at dawn on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

According to information obtained by HRANA, Mr. Farhadi Toupkanlou had previously been arrested on charges related to drug-related crimes and was sentenced to death by Branch One of the Sabzevar Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad Gholami.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and relevant institutions have not officially announced the execution of this prisoner.

According to HRA’s Annual Report, in 2025 at least 2,063 citizens, including 61 women and 2 juvenile offenders, were executed. Of these, the sentences of 11 individuals were carried out in public. During the same period, 172 other individuals were sentenced to death.

Prison and Exile Sentences Issued for Several Supporters of the “Yamani” Movement

HRANA – The prosecutor of Torbat-e Heydarieh announced the issuance of sentences totaling 60 years of imprisonment, 20 years of exile, and additional punitive measures for several supporters of the “Yamani” movement. Without specifying the number of those convicted, he described them as “leaders and online activists affiliated with the emerging Baha’i movement.”

According to ISNA, Mohammad Hossein Hassan-Nejad stated in this regard: “Based on the issued verdict, the leaders and online activists of this religious group were collectively sentenced to 60 years in prison, 160 years of deprivation from social services, and 20 years of exile to hot border regions. In addition, each of these individuals was ordered to pay a fine of 800 million rials.”

He referred to these citizens as “the main defendants in the case of elements affiliated with the deviant movement of Ahmad Ismail Basri, known as the emerging Baha’i movement.”

According to him, these rulings were issued based on Articles 499 and 500 (amended) of the Islamic Penal Code.

The report does not mention the number or identities of those convicted.

Each year in Iran, individuals are arrested solely on allegations of claiming a connection with the Shiite Hidden Imam. It is worth noting that the “Yamani” ideological movement, led by an individual named Ahmad al-Hassan al-Yamani, is also active by making claims related to Mahdism.

Iran’s security apparatus, particularly the Ministry of Intelligence, has departments tasked with confronting religions, spiritual movements, and intellectual-religious groups that do not fall within the ideological framework accepted by the Iranian government.

Report on the Arrest of Reyhaneh and Rasoul Darat, Supporters of the “Yamani” Movement

HRANA News Agency – Reyhaneh Darat and her brother Rasoul Darat, two residents of Torbat-e Heydarieh and supporters of the “Yamani” movement, have been arrested by security forces. While Rasoul Darat is currently being held in The Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in the city, the whereabouts of Reyhaneh Darat remain unknown.

A source close to the family confirmed the news to HRANA, stating:
“On the evening of Monday, April 28, agents from the Ministry of Intelligence raided a ceremony being held in Torbat-e Heydarieh, Razavi Khorasan province, to mark the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad’s daughter. Around 20 women and girls, all supporters of the Yamani movement, were present. Among them, Reyhaneh Darat was arrested by security forces. Later that night, her family went to the Ministry of Intelligence office to follow up on her case. During this effort, her brother Rasoul Darat was also arrested by Intelligence agents.”

According to HRANA’s findings, Rasoul Darat is currently being held in The Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Torbat-e Heydarieh. However, the location of Reyhaneh Darat, 20, remains unknown, and authorities have refused to provide her family with any information.

Rasoul Darat has previously been arrested and convicted for his religious activities.

In Iran, individuals are routinely detained for making claims of association with the Shi’a messianic figure, the Hidden Twelfth Imam. One such movement, known as the Yamani current and led by Ahmad al-Hasan Yamani, advocates beliefs centered on Mahdism.

The Iranian security establishment—particularly the Ministry of Intelligence—maintains dedicated units focused on monitoring and suppressing religious groups, mystical orders, and ideological movements that fall outside the state’s sanctioned ideological boundaries.
