Two Prisoners Executed in Zabol Prison for Drug-related Charges

HRANA – Yesterday, June 21, 2026, the death sentences of two prisoners, including an Afghan national, who had previously been convicted on drug-related charges, were carried out in Zabol Prison.

According to Haal Vsh, two prisoners were hanged in Zabol Prison on June 21, 2026.

The identities of the prisoners have been reported as Homayoun Nourzahi, approximately 70 years old and a citizen of Afghanistan, and Hossein Yousofzahi, a resident of Tabasin Olya village in Nahbandan County.

According to the report, Mr. Yousofzahi was arrested in 1998, while Mr. Nourzahi was arrested two years ago, both on charges related to drug offenses. They were subsequently sentenced to death by judicial authorities.

As of the time of this report, the executions of these two prisoners have not been officially announced by prison authorities or the relevant institutions.

According to HRA’s Annual Report, in 2025 at least 2,063 citizens, including 61 women and 2 juvenile offenders, were executed. Of these, the sentences of 11 individuals were carried out in public. During the same period, 172 other individuals were sentenced to death.

Two Prisoners Executed in Zabol Prison

HRANA News Agency – At dawn yesterday, May 15, the death sentences of two prisoners previously convicted of murder were carried out in Zabol Prison.

HRANA has identified the individuals as Reza Dahmardeh, approximately 24 years old, the resident of a village in Zabol County, and Abdullah (last name unknown), a citizen of Afghanistan.

The two had been arrested in separate cases on murder charges and later sentenced to death by criminal courts.

As of the time of this report, prison and judicial authorities have not publicly announced the executions.

In 2024, according to 812 reports compiled by HRANA, the Iranian regime executed 930 individuals in its prisons—marking the highest number of executions in the past 12 years. Despite the scale of these executions, prison officials and other relevant authorities publicly acknowledged only 6% of them, highlighting the regime’s lack of transparency and accountability.

Two Inmates Executed in Zahedan and Zabol

On  July 7, 2022, two inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in Zabol and Zahedan Prison, Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Haal Vsh, on Thursday, July 7, 2022, an inmate identified as Behzad Narooie, age 33, was executed in Zahedan Prison. Haal Vsh also reported the execution of an inmate identified as Mohammad Shahi, age 48 in Zabol Prison. He was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Zahedan in 2018.

Mohammad Shahi was arrested for a drug-related crime in 2019.

Both inmates were allowed to have their last family visitation one day before the execution.

These executions have not been reported by the official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far. 

The most recent report from the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between January 1 of 2021 and December 20 of 2021, at least 299 citizens, including four juvenile offenders, were executed. In addition, 85 citizens were sentenced to death in this period. 

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 88% of executions. These unreported executions are known as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

Two Inmates Executed in Zabol and Chabahar Prisons

On Saturday, May 28, 2022, one inmate who was convicted of drug-related crimes was executed in Zabol Prison. Also, another inmate convicted of murder was executed in Chabahar Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on Saturday, May 28, 2022, two inmates were executed in Chabahar and Zabol Prisons.

Rasank News has identified the inmate who was executed in Zabol Prison as Nader Gorgij, a resident of the Zahak County of Sistan and Baluchestan Province. He had been convicted of drug-related crimes.

Also, Haal Vsh reports that an inmate identified as Hamidollah Sahrai, a resident of Sarbaz in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, was executed in Chabahar Prison. In 2020, he was arrested for murder.
