2 Civil Activists Ask for Further Appeal on Their Cases

HRANA News Agency – Hossein Alimohammadi Alvar and Seyed Taha Kermani, two civil activists in Tabriz, after being sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by branch 3 of Tabriz revolutionary court, appealed in due time and requested the Court of Appeal’s reconsideration.
Their lawyers, Jafar Afsharnia and Amir Bakhshi on Monday 15th June, made an appeal against the issued verdict by the delivery bill to the court, objecting the contradictions of the verdict including “not providing any evidence indicating the guilt” and “violation of the principle of innocence” and asked for a hearing and accurate legal proceedings on the cases of their clients.
Hamid Bagherpour, Presidency of Tabriz revolutionary court sentenced these two civil activists, in preliminary stage,  to ten years imprisonment on charges of “insulting religious sanctities” and “burning public funds on fight with the Islamic Republic”.
These two civil activists had been sentenced to 3 years imprisonment on charges of propaganda against the regime and insulting the leadership, because of the material published in the “Soosma” and “Sosozgol” papers, by the Tabriz revolutionary court, which was precisely confirmed by the Court of Appeal.
Each of these two activists have been sentenced to a total of 13 years imprisonment, while the court documents that were used as evidences for the conviction were based on their confessions during their interrogation, and the court found them guilty as their evidence does not reject Tabriz Intelligence Office report.
However, Kermani and Alimohammadi Alvar both rejected accusations in the court hearing, giving evidences about psychological and physical tortures in Intelligence Office solitary confinement, during their interrogations and calling for judicial investigation on the detention conditions and procedures of interrogation by that office.
Seyed Taha Kermani, civil activist, was arrested on 4th November 2013, and after interrogation, was sent to Tabriz prison. On 15th April 2014, after more than five months in detention, he was released on the bail of 300 million Tomans.
