Proxy Marriage, No Rings and a Black Veil; Story of Media Propaganda on the Prison Wedding
HRANA News Agency – 21st June this year, the propagandist news of the marriage of a prisoner in the Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj made headlines in the Iranian media. The head of this Prison, Mohammad Mardani “joyously” expressed his hope for “the increase in such events”. However the reality of marriage in prison away from reporters and their cameras and propagandist media is quite different; “two and half months of hustles and bustles, insulting inspection, proxy marriage without exchange of the rings and strictly with black veil” are only a small corner of the shadow that leaves these new brides in the dark, yearning for a simple wedding.

Monthly Report – An Overview of the Human Rights Situation in Iran in Jul-Aug 2016
HRANA News Agency – The Department of Statistics and Publications of the Human Rights Activists Association of Iran has published the following monthly report on the human rights situation in Iran during the period of Jul-Aug, 2016 (Persian calendar month of Mordad, 1395). This report cannot perfectly and comprehensively reflect the details of human rights concerns in Iran for obvious reasons including the existing governmental limitations and ban on the free exchange of information. It should be noted that in addition to the monthly reports, the Department of Statistics and Publications of the Human Rights Activists Association of Iran publishes a comprehensive and analytical annual report at the end of each year.

Tehran Appeal Court Reduced the Sentences of 4 Civil Rights Activists
HRANA News Agency – The sentences of four civil rights activist, Atena Daemi, Omid Alishenas, Aso Rostami and Ali Nouri were reduced at branch 36 of appeal court from 14, 10, 7 and 7 to 7, 7, 2 and 2 years of imprisonment.

Saeed Shirzad Still Waiting for the Appeal Court’s Decision
HRANA News Agency – Saeed Shirzad, political prisoner in Rajai Shahr prison who is spending three years in prison, after one year since receiving the primary sentence is still waiting for appeal court’s decision.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Saeed Shirzad, children’s rights activist was arrested on June 8, 2014. The List of Male Prisoners Charged with Muharebeh and Sentenced to between 15 to 20 Years in Prison
HRANA News Agency – According to the changes related to Muharebeh (waging war against god) in the New Islamic Penal Code, those who have been convicted of Muharebeh based on the previous penal code, will now have the possibility for a retrial, commutation and release. Currently tens of prisoners in Iranian prisons are convicted of Muharebeh for different reasons, this includes at least 37 male prisoners who are facing 15 to 20 years of imprisonment. The following is the fourth list published in regards to “Prisoners Convicted of Muharebeh” and is dedicated to these 37 male prisoners. The previously published lists in this series include “Women Convicted of Muharebeh”, “Male Prisoners Sentenced to life in prison”, and “Male Prisoners Sentenced to More than 20 Years in Prison.”
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), there are currently at least thirty-seven male prisoners in Iranian prisons who have been convicted of Muharebeh for different reasons and have been sentenced between 15 to 20 years of imprisonment. Since 2013, According to the changes in regards of Muharebeh in the new Islamic Penal Code, these prisoners could apply for retrial. Many of them could receive commutations and reach their release soon and considering the long prison terms of some of them, it could provide them the possibility of being release. Based on the new Penal Code, adopted in 2013, the charges of “Muharebeh (waging war against god)”, “Mofset-Fil-Arz (Sowing Corruption on earth)” and “Baghi (withdrawing from the obedience of the Islamic religious authority)” under Articles 279 to 288 have been redefined. Hussein Rafie Transferred to His House
HRANA News Agency – Hussein Rafie, elderly political prisoner was transferred from the hospital to his house. The national-religious activists following the deterioration of his health condition had been admitted at Sina hospital in Tehran since August 11. It is not clear if he is released or is on medical furlough.
