Dozens of Citizens Arrested in Khuzestan Province; Identities of 28 Individuals Verified

Over a span of five days, dozens of citizens were arrested in Khuzestan Province by security forces. HRANA has so far verified the identities of 28 of these individuals.

On the morning of Wednesday, January 8, 2025, security forces arrested several individuals, including Reza Heidari, Javad Heidari, Ali Savari, Foad Mousavi, Javad Afri, Yasin Silavi, Ali Koroushat, and Mohammad Naseri, in different areas of Ahvaz. They were subsequently transferred to an undisclosed location.

Additionally, on the same day, Khaled Amouri, Ali Amouri, and Mohammad Amouri were detained by agents of The Ministry of Intelligence in Ramshir and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Ramhormoz.

On the evening of Monday, January 6, five Sunni citizens, including Younes Ghorbavi and Reza Zahiri, were arrested in Ahvaz. Earlier, on Sunday, January 5, Hashem Mousavi (Hermosi), a 56-year-old resident of the Sheiban district in Ahvaz, was also detained by security forces.

In continuation of this wave of arrests, in recent days, other individuals, including Sadegh Mansouri, Mansour Jasemi, Ahmad Jalali, Hossein Saeedi, Saeed Fallahi, Ahmad Khaledi, Ayoub Torfi, Yousef Saedi, Mohammad Ayashi, and Ali Savari, have been detained. These arrests were reportedly accompanied by the confiscation of personal belongings, such as mobile phones and computers. Local reports indicate that families of the detainees are deeply concerned about their condition and whereabouts.

Previously, HRANA reported the arrest of Ayoub Gheibipour on January 5, Milad Bahri and Saeed Esmail Mazraeh on January 6, Ahlam Abeyyat (Bandar) on January 7 in Ahvaz.

As of now, there is no information about the reasons behind the arrests or the current location of many of these detainees.

Local sources have reported that the total number of recent arrests in these areas exceeds the figures provided so far. Further information, including the identities of additional detainees, is under investigation.

Ayoub Gheibipour Arrested by IRGC Intelligence in Ahvaz

Ayoub Gheibipour Hajivar, one of the detainees from the 2022 nationwide protests, was arrested by security forces in Ahvaz yesterday and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, a source close to Gheibipour’s family confirmed the news, stating:
“Yesterday, IRGC intelligence agents first went to Mr. Gheibipour’s family home in Ahvaz. After learning he was not home, they went to the gym where he was training and arrested him there. The agents also confiscated the gym’s CCTV cameras. His current location remains unknown.”

The source added: “Mr. Gheibipour has not received any summons to serve his sentence. It is likely that his arrest is connected to his activities.”
In April of 2024, the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court sentenced Gheibipour on charges of arson, destruction of public property, and propaganda against the regime. He was given a 10-year prison term in exile in Kerman Prison for “moharebeh” (enmity against God) and an additional year for “propaganda against the regime.” One of the charges cited against him was “burning a statue of Qassem Soleimani.”

Initially, this verdict was overturned by Branch 20 of the Supreme Court and sent back for retrial. The Ahvaz Revolutionary Court reinstated the same sentence, which was later upheld by the Supreme Court in late October 2024.

Gheibipour was previously arrested in November 2022 during the nationwide protests and detained at Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz. He was eventually released on February 13, 2024, after posting a bail of 3 billion tomans. During his detention, he was denied adequate medical care.

Ayoub Gheibipour Sentenced to Eleven Years in Prison and Exile

The Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz sentenced Ayoub Gheibipour to eleven years in prison and exile to Kerman Prison for charges including “enmity against God (Moharebeh).” Gheibipour was arrested during the 2022 nationwide protests.

According to his lawyer Sajjad Chatrsefid, the ruling includes ten years in prison to be served in exile in Kerman Prison for “enmity against God (Moharebeh)” and one year for “propaganda against the regime.” Gheibipour can appeal the ruling.

This verdict followed the overturning of an initial verdict by the Supreme Court. Gheibipour had previously received ten years in exile imprisonment for “arson and destruction of public property, propaganda against the regime,” citing the burning of Qasem Soleimani’s statues as an example of this charge.

Gheibipour was arrested during the nationwide protests in Ahvaz and was transferred to Sheiban Prison in the city. He was released on February 13, 2024, on a heavy bail of three billion toman (approximately $60,000). During his detention, he was denied access to medical care.
