Execution of Two Prisoners in Sepidar Prison of Ahvaz

HRANA – On Wednesday, September 10, Sepidar Prison of Ahvaz carried out the execution of two prisoners convicted of murder.

HRANA has confirmed the identity of one of them as Ahmad Bani Asad, 38 years old, from Susangerd. According to information received by HRANA, Mr. Bani Asad was previously arrested following a fight in which he committed murder. He was later sentenced to death by the criminal court.

The Iran Human Rights Organization confirmed the identity of the other prisoner as Yousef Asadi Kahbad, 31 years old, from the village of Kahbad in Izeh County. He had been arrested seven years ago on a murder charge and was sentenced to death by the criminal court.

At the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by prison authorities or the relevant institutions.

In 2024, according to 812 reports compiled by HRANA, the Iranian regime executed 930 individuals in its prisons—marking the highest number of executions in the past 12 years. Despite the scale of these executions, prison officials and other relevant authorities publicly acknowledged only 6% of them, highlighting the regime’s lack of transparency and accountability.

HRANA– Ali Mojaddam, Moein Khanfari, and Mohammadreza Moghaddam, three political prisoners on death row in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz, were transferred to solitary confinement on June 26, 2025. Their move has heightened their families’ fears that the executions may be carried out soon.

According to HRANA, prison authorities shifted the men from the general ward to solitary cells on that date, without giving any explanation.

Ali Mojaddam, Mohammadreza Moghaddam, Moein Khanfari, Habib Deris, Adnan Ghobishavi, and Salem Mousavi were arrested by security forces in Khuzestan Province in February 2019.

Feb-Mar, 2023, the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court sentenced: Mojaddam and Moghaddam to death for “leadership and membership in the military wing of the Harakat al-Nidal (in Iran),” deemed an armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic. Khanfari, Deris, Ghobishavi, and Mousavi to death for membership in the same group on the same charge. All verdicts are currently under review by the Supreme Court.

In October 2023, Mojaddam, Moghaddam, Khanfari, and Ghobishavi were moved from Sheiban Prison to Sepidar Prison.

Two Prisoners Executed in Sepidar Prison of Ahvaz

HRANA News Agency – On Wednesday, April 30, two prisoners previously sentenced to death on drug-related charges were executed in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz.

HRANA has confirmed the identity of one of the executed individuals as Mohammad-Nabi Zirkari. According to information received by HRANA, Mr. Zirkari and another prisoner—whose identity remains unverified—had been arrested in separate cases on charges related to drug offenses and later sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and relevant institutions have not officially announced the executions.

According to data compiled by HRANA, 52.69% of all executions in Iran in 2024 were related to drug-related charges. Notably, only 6% of the executions were officially announced, highlighting a significant lack of transparency. A Prisoner Executed in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz

HRANA News Agency – At dawn on Saturday, April 5, the death sentence of a prisoner previously convicted of murder was carried out in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz.

Iran Human Rights has identified the prisoner as Zahir Shamsi, 32 years old, a resident of Dezful and father of a five-year-old daughter.

According to the report, Mr. Shamsi was arrested four years ago on charges of murdering his cousin and was later sentenced to death by the judiciary. Before his arrest, he worked as a tile and ceramic installer.

As of the time of this report, the execution has not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

In 2024, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran documented 812 cases related to the right to life, including the sentencing of 214 individuals to death and the execution of 930 individuals. Among these, 4 executions were carried out in public. Of those executed, 818 were male, 26 were female, and 5 were juvenile offenders—individuals under 18 years old at the time of their alleged crimes.

Prisoner Executed in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz

HRANA News Agency – On Thursday, February 20, 2025, a prisoner previously sentenced to death on murder charges was executed in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz.

According to HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, the executed prisoner has been identified as Babak Hajipour, 49, from Masjed Soleyman, Khuzestan province.

A source close to Hajipour’s family confirmed the news to HRANA, stating: “In 1994, following a dispute, he was arrested and charged with murder. After serving four years in prison, he was acquitted and released. However, his case was reopened, and he was sentenced to death in absentia by the Criminal Court. In 2014, he was rearrested and transferred to Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz.”

As of the time of this report, prison and judicial authorities have not publicly announced the execution.

On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, the death sentence of a prisoner previously convicted of murder was carried out in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz.

HRANA has identified the prisoner as Ali Moradi. Based on information obtained by HRANA, Mr. Moradi had been arrested on charges of murder and subsequently sentenced to death by judicial authorities.

Ruhollah Khosrawi Transferred to Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz; 15 Months in Legal Limbo

Political detainee Ruhollah Khosrawi remains in limbo over 15 months after his arrest. In mid-November, he was transferred from Sheiban Prison to Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz.

A source close to his family confirmed to HRANA: “On November 9, Mr. Khosrawi protested the relocation of Sheiban Prison’s public telephones to a noisy area near the kitchen. After a confrontation with guards, he was beaten and violently removed from the general ward. Following this, and under the orders of Sheiban Prison’s deputy security chief Mr. Ahmadi, coordinated with prison oversight judge Mr. Kooti, he was transferred to Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz.”

Khosrawi recently informed his family that, after 18 days in solitary confinement, he was moved to the general ward of Sepidar Prison.

He was arrested on August 23, 2023, in Izeh by security forces and initially held at The Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Ahvaz before being transferred to Sheiban Prison.

On October 19, Khosrawi began a hunger strike in Sheiban Prison to protest his prolonged detention without trial. During the strike, he was moved to solitary confinement but returned to the general ward after ending his strike.

Khosrawi’s case is being investigated by a branch of the Izeh Prosecutor’s Office, with charges reportedly linked to national security. Since his arrest, he has been denied access to legal counsel, and no court hearings have been held.

As of this report, no information has been provided about the charges against him.

Khosrawi, aged around 35, is married and the father of a young daughter and son.

Execution of Prisoner Carried Out in Ahvaz’s Sepidar Prison

Early Wednesday morning, October 30, a prisoner sentenced to death on murder charges was executed in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz.

HRANA has identified the individual as Sardar Safarpour, who was initially detained on murder charges and later received a death sentence from the judiciary.

As of this report, officials from the prison and relevant authorities have not officially announced Safarpour’s execution.

According to the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran, in 2023, at least 767 citizens, including 21 women and 2 juvenile offenders, were executed. Of these, the executions of 7 individuals were carried out in public. Additionally, during this period, 172 others were sentenced to death, with 5 of them sentenced to public execution. It is worth noting that during the same period, the initial death sentences of 49 other individuals were also upheld by the Supreme Court.

Zeinab Khenyab Pour Sentenced to Two Years for Publishing Photo without Hijab

The Behbahan Criminal Court has issued a two-year prison sentence to Zeinab (Bahar) Khenyab Pour, a resident of Behbahan, for the publication of photos without hijab.

The announcement of this verdict was made by Sajjad Chatr Sefid, Khenyab Pour’s legal representative. The court session addressing her charges took place on October 9, 2023.

In a separate legal development overseen by the Mahshahr Revolutionary Court, Khenyab Pour had previously received a three-month sentence.

On December 5, 2022, Khenyab Pour’s garment shop was closed following her participation in a general strike in support of nationwide protests. In response to the closure, she sought clarification from judicial authorities and was subsequently detained for six days in Sepidar Prison, located in Ahvaz.

Zeinab Khenyab Pour Receives Three-Month Prison Sentence

The Mahshahr Revolutionary Court has imposed a three-month jail term on Zeinab (Bahar) Khenyab Pour, a resident of Bebahan.

Sajjad Chatr Sefid, Khenyab Pour’s lawyer, confirmed that his client has been found guilty of “spreading propaganda against the regime.” Khenyab Pour is also currently contending with an additional charge, which is under consideration by the Bebahan Criminal Court. The court session for this particular aspect of her legal proceedings took place on October 9, 2023.

Previously, on December 5, 2022, Khenyab Pour’s garment shop was closed due to her participation in the general strike in support of nationwide protests. Following the closure, she sought clarification from judicial authorities and was subsequently detained for six days in Sepidar Prison, located in Ahvaz.
