Iran: at Least 33 Executions within the last 12 days of 2012

HRANA News Agency – Iranian regime has executed 33 prisoners within the last 12 days of 2012, most of them are unreported.

According to the reports by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Iranian regime has executed 33 prisoners across Iran within 12 days: one prisoner in Sari, convicted of drug trafficking, five public execution of prisoners convicted of rape in Yasouj, one Afghan citizen convicted of drug trafficking in Damghan, four prisoners convicted of rape in Yazd, at least two prisoners convicted of rape in Urmia, four prisoners convicted of drug trafficking in Ghezelhesar Prison, six Salafi prisoners convicted of assassination, 10 prisoners convicted of drug trafficking in Taybad.

Behrouz Alkhani, Political Prisoner Close to Execution | Photos

HRANA News Agency – Death sentence of political prisoner, Behrouz Alkhani, was confirmed in Supreme Court and he is close to execution.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Behrouz Alkhani was arrested in 2009 along with 15 men convicted of cooperating with PEJAK.
After several months, he was convicted of murdering of Khoy’s attorney general and was sentenced to death.

Four Prisoners Transferred for Execution in Yasouj, Iran

HRANA News Agency – After five public executions in Yasouj, four more prisoners who are sentenced to death convicted of rape, were transferred to solitary confinement for execution.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), after five public executions in Yasouj, in the morning of Thursday, December 27, 2012, four more prisoners who are sentenced to death convicted of rape, were transferred to solitary confinement in the afternoon of the same day for execution.

480 Prisoners Hanged From October 2010 to October 2011

HRANA News Agency – The Statistics and Publications Unit of Human Rights Activists in Iran has reported that from October 2010 to October 2011, 480 individuals charged with various crimes have been hanged in Iran.During the same period of time, there have been 641 prisoners sentenced to death and 46 individuals hanged in public.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the majority of prisoners who received the death penalty were charged with drug related crimes.It is also noteworthy that Iranian Judiciary Branch neither officially announces the majority of death sentences when they are issued nor the time when they are carried out.

Since the beginning of 2011, 478 individuals have been sentenced to die, and the death penalties for 422 of these prisoners have been carried out.If there are no more hangings in the remaining days of 2011, the number of hanging in the current year will be 22% less than last year.

Analyzing the data further, the Statistics and Publications Unit has reported that since the beginning of the current Persian year (March 2011), 442 individuals have been sentenced to die, and 253 prisoners have been hanged.Amongst those executed, 39 individuals were hanged in public.In comparison to the same period of time last year, executions have increased 45%.

During the last twelve months, the relative frequency of death sentences carried out is mostly related to narcotics, murder, rape and theft in the order listed.Amongst those executed, there were 12 women.Furthermore, the majority of drug related death penalties have been issued in eastern provinces of Iran where narcotics are smuggled into the country from Afghanistan.

Two People Were Executed in Khoozestan over Past Few Days

HRANA –A man was executed in public in the city of Ahvaz on Tuesday, May 18th, on charges of buying and selling narcotics.

Government news outlets have not revealed the identity of the executed man. The only official information came through a statement by Abdolhamid Amanat Behbahani, Head of Public Information for the Judiciary of the State of Khoozestan, who said: “the execution order of this long time smuggler was carried out in the area of Koot Abdollah in Ahvaz.”

According to Al-Arabia, Behbahani added: “This sentence was carried out in light of the mandate for the urgent carrying out of criminal sentences and with the purpose of dealing sternly with perpetrators of death after following all legal and Sharia required procedures.”

In addition, the Judiciary of the State of Khoozestan announced the execution of a man convicted of first degree murder in the city of Dezfoul on May 4th.

Based on this report, “Rahman R.” was arrested and tried for battery and intentional infliction of injuries resulting in the death of “Davood T.” He confessed to the crime charged and was sentenced to execution by the criminal court of Dezfoul. The sentence was carried out in Dezfoul after being affirmed by the Supreme Court.

One Prisoner Hanged in Sari Prison

HRANA News Agency – One prisoner convicted of drug trafficking was hanged in Sari Prison in presence of local Judiciary Authorities on Tuesday, December 25, 2012.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), quoted from ISNA, Assadollah Jafari , Attorney general of Mazandaran province said: this prisoner had several criminal records in drug trafficking and based on this fact, he was executed in Sari Prison.

According to the report of Statistics and Publication Department of Human Rights Activists in Iran, 19 prisoners were executed in Iran in last month.

HRANA News Agency – Execution verdicts of six prisoners in Salmas, convicted of drug trafficking has been confirmed by Supreme Court and they are in danger of execution.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Habib Mamadi, Akram Mamadi, Sami Mamadi, Samad Mamadi, Karim Mamadi and Firouz Hassanzadeh, from Hablaran and Ghezel Kand villages in Salmas convicted of drug trafficking are sentenced to death.
