Hassan Abyat Executed in Ahvaz

On February 20, Hassan Abyat was executed in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz, Khuzestan Province. Abyat was previously sentenced to death by the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court for “enmity against God (moharebeh).”

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on February 20, 2023, Hassan Abyat, age 44, was executed in Sepidar Prison.

Karim Dahimi, a political activist and human rights defender focused on Iran’s Arab communities, told HRANA that, “Abyat was previously sentenced to death by Branch 1 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court, presided by Judge Farhadvand, for moharebeh.”

“Along with dozens of protestors, Abyat was arrested over protests in Khuzestan Province on April 15, 2011, on the anniversary of 2005 unrests”, he added.

According to Dahimi, Abyat and five others were detained under torture in the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Ahvaz for over 11 months. At the time, Iranian state-owned Press TV aired several videos of their coerced confessions.

Two Inmates Executed in Sanandaj and Birjand Prisons

On February 20 and 21, two inmates convicted of murder and drug-related crimes were executed in Sanandaj and Birjand Prisons, respectively.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on February 20, 2023, Moslem Moradi, a resident of Divandarreh, was executed in Sanandaj Prison. He was previously convicted of murder.

Moreover, Haal Vsh reported that on February 21, Birjand Prison officials executed an inmate identified as Davood Rakjan (aka Haj Nabi Kharkoohi), age 44, a resident of Zahedan.
He was reportedly sentenced to death in 2010 for carrying and keeping drugs.

Three Inmates Executed in Karaj

On February 14, 2023, the Central Prison of Karaj officials executed three inmates convicted of drug-related crimes and murder.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on February 14, 2023, three inmates were executed in the Central Prison of Karaj.

HRANA has identified one of these individuals as Mehdi Doostari, previously convicted of drug offenses. HRANA is working on identifying two other executed prisoners convicted of murder.

Five Inmates Executed in Arak and Urmia

On February 14, three inmates were executed in Arak Prison for drug-related crimes. Also, on the same day, two inmates convicted of murder were executed in Urmia Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on February 14, three unidentified death-row inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in Arak Prison.

HRANA is working on identifying these prisoners and finding out details on their cases.

Also, Kurdpa reported the execution of two inmates, identified as Mohammad-Ali Akhtari Kohlan and Milad Jajooie Khanik, in Urmia prison. In October 2018, these individuals, reportedly, along with another person, were arrested for armed robbery of a jewellery store in Urmia. Subsequently, they were sentenced to death on the charge of enmity against God (Moharebeh).

Four Inmates Executed in Three Prisons

Four death-row prisoners convicted of drug-related crimes and murder were executed in Rajai Shahr, Bandar-Abbas and Adel-Abad Prisons.

According to Rokna, on February 1, 2023, an unidentified inmate convicted of killing three members of a family was executed in Rajai Shahr Prison, Karaj.

Iran Human Rights Organization also reported that on January 31, two inmates, identified as Ali Allahverdi and Farhang Zakaie, were executed in Adel-Abad Prison, Shiraz.

According to an informed source mentioned in this report, these two stepbrothers committed murder three years ago.
Lastly, on February 1, Mansour Yousefzehi, age 22, was executed in Bandar-Abbas Prison. Two years ago, he was arrested reportedly for smuggling two kilos of drugs.

Four Inmates Executed in Karaj and Khalkhal

On January 26, 2023, three inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in the Central Prison of Karaj. Also, on January 25, one inmate sentenced to death for accessory to murder was executed in Khalkhal Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on January 26, 2023, three death-row prisoners were executed in the Central Prison of Karaj.

HRANA has identified two of them as Reza Shokri and Omid Shokri. They were previously convicted of drug offences.

Also, Iran Human Rights Organization reported the execution of an inmate identified as Hamed Heidari in Khalkhal Prison on January 25.

On January 24, 2023, Arak Prison officials executed three death-row inmates convicted of drug-related crimes.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on January 24, 2023, three death-row prisoners were executed in Arak Prison. HRANA has identified two of them as Omid Azni and Behnam (last name unknown).

These prisoners were previously sentenced to death for drug offences.

Six Inmates Executed in Karaj and Hamedan

Monday, January 23, four inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in the Central Prison of Karaj. Moreover, last Tuesday, January 19, Hamedan Prison officials executed two inmates convicted of drug offences.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on January 23, 2023, four inmates were executed in the Central Prison of Karaj. HRANA Has identified three of them as Saman Nabi- Garusi, Abolfazl Baraghani-Nejad, and Sabina Esmailzadeh. All four inmates were previously convicted of drug-related crimes.

HRANA also reported the execution of Ali Jalilvand and Akbar Ahmadi, both married, in Hamedan Prison. Also, on January 22, another death-row inmate, convicted of drug-related crimes, was relocated to solitary confinement awaiting imminent execution.

On January 19, Salmas Prison officials executed two death-row inmates convicted of drug-related crimes and murder.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on January 20, 2023, Kamel Dudkanlo and Seyed Farhad Hosseini Tamrabad were executed in Salmas Prison, West Azerbaijan Province.

A few years ago, Dudkanlo was sentenced to death for drug offences. Hosseini Tamrabad was convicted of murder.
