Abdolkarim Lahiji became the president of FIDH

HRANA News Agency – Abdolkarim Lahiji, an Iranian attorney living in France, has been elected to serve as the president of the International Federation for Human Rights.  The election was made on May 23, 2013 during FIDH’s 38th congress in Istanbul, Turkey.

Lahiji has also served as the vice president of the federation for five consecutive terms totaling 15 years.  After being elected as the president, Lahiji said that his first priority will be to free all human rights defenders who have been imprisoned unjustly around the world. Fire-fighters and rescuers are buried under trash

HRANA News Agency – As a result of a mudslide at a landfill, a group of fire-fighters and rescuers who were trying to put out a fire fell into a hole more than 98 feet deep.  They are now buried under a  mountain of trash which clasped after them.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Ramzan Amini, the deputy mayor of Shiraz, has announced that 11 individuals were buried under the trash at Barmshor Landfill.  Four men have already been rescued, and efforts to rescue the others are underway.

According to another report by Mahr News Agency, Ramin Talabi, the director of the fire department at the city of Shiraz, has said that because of the volume of trash piled up at the site, the rescuers have had difficulty reaching the missing victims.  “Two fire-fighters, two horticultural engineers and two utility workers are still missing,” Talabi said.  “The most important obstacles are the volume of trash and mud at the site.”  The experts at the landfill have estimated that the victims are under more than 40 tons of trash.

Shahran locals gathered in front of Tehran City Council

HRANA News Agency – A number of locals of Shahran in the region 5 of Tehran gathered in front of Tehran City Council against the destruction of Asia Park.

According to a report by Iran channel, a number of the locals of Shahran gathered protesting against cutting the trees and illegal destruction of Asia Park.

The demonstrators have gathered with a rose flower in their hands and some placards written on them: “Dear Mayor, listen to the City Council, we condemn destroying the landscape, the agriculture of Shahran and Kan are being destroyed, Mr. Ghalibaf free the Park.”

A man has been killed by Basijis in Salmas

HRANA News Agency – Because of the violent fire of Basiji forces an Azeri citizen in Salmas has been killed.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), in the night of April 18, 2013 Kamal Abdollahi, 72, the Azeri citizen of Moghanjoogh village of Salmas was shot directly by Basiji forces  when he was coming back home from his farm and passed away immediately. 5 are dead because of Chinese Penicillin injection

HRANA News Agency – A research on the medical cases showed that 5 people have died because of using Chinese Penicillin.

Dr. Iraj Khosronia, the chief of the Internal specialists society of Iran has told to YJC: a 40 years old man goes to a doctor because of Pus in throat for whom the doctor gives penicillin to use. At Least 30 PKK Fighters Killed or Injured

HRANA News Agency – An Iranian military commander has announced that at least thirty members of PKK have been killed or injured since fighting resumed ten days ago in Kurdistan alongside the western and northwestern regions of Iran.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Hamid Ahmadi, a military commander with the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution, has reported that at least 30 guerrilla fighters of Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) have been killed or injured by Sepah Pasdaran.

Iranian state media has reported, “Sweeping military operations continue in the northwestern regions of the country in order to get rid of members of the terrorist group, PKK.”

HRANA previously reported that on Friday, September 2, 2011, Iranian military forces resumed operations alongside the country’s western borders after a ten-day delay.

 

Two Citizens in Qom Humiliated and Disgraced

HRANA News Agency – On Sunday evening, June 26, 2011, two citizens in the city of Qom were marched around town in order to humiliate and disgrace them publicly.

The deputy chief of police in Qom called these two citizens “thugs and hoodlums” during a ceremony following this event and added that the action was taken so that it would be a “lesson for others.”

According to a report by Mehr News Agency, Mohammad Reza Mirhaydari claimed that these individuals’ criminal records included charges of rape, kidnapping and other wicked and mischievous acts.Mohammad Reza Mirhaydari warmed all other citizens that they would be dragged around town to be humiliated and disgraced in the same way for similar crimes.

Mohammad Reza Mirhaydari added, “This plan will swiftly punish individuals who disturb and agitate families in various neighborhoods.Criminals must be stopped in order to establish security in the society.”

The deputy chief of police in Qom also announced that the second phase of Valadyat Plan is underway and said, “In order to move forward with this plan, five special police stations have been established in areas with high crime rates.”

It has been reported that in recent days, while the Moral Security Plan is being implemented, more citizens have been dragged around town in order to humiliate and disgrace them.

 

Beaten Because I Stopped Using Drugs

HRANA News Agency – On Thursday, June 23, 2011, the police beat and battered a citizen in one of the parks in Tehran Pars, an eastern neighborhood of Tehran metropolitan area.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), while the implementation of the Moral Security Plan is in progress throughout Iran, law enforcement officers beat a citizen because he told them that he was a recovering addict.HRANA is protecting this citizen’s identity.

In an interview with HRANA, this individual said, “Yesterday, when I was sitting on one of the benches in the park and just looked at the police officers, they approached me and in a condescending voice asked, ‘What are you looking at?’Then they took me to the police mobile command center where they gave me a full body search.”

“The police officers asked me what drug I was using. I replied that I no longer used any drugs.When they heard my answer, they began shouting and cursing and said that since I had stopped using drugs, I had to be beaten.Then they began beating me,” he added.

This report contains two pictures of this citizen’s legs bruised and injuries when police officers beat him with batons.
