Update on Political Prisoner Ayoub Porkar’s Condition 

Political prisoner Ayoub Porkar is currently spending the fourteenth year out of his twenty-year sentence in Sheyban Prison in Ahvaz. During this period, he has not been granted any furlough. 

In 2008, Porkar was arrested by security forces and later sentenced to death by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran on the charge of “enmity against God through cooperation with The People’s Mujahedin Organization of Iran (MEK).” This verdict was commuted to 20 years in prison on appeal. 

Nasrin Sotoudeh, his attorney at the time of trial, stated that the arguments for his conviction were based on his beliefs rather than actions. 

Porkar is currently serving the fourteenth year of his sentence in exile, in Sheyban prison in Ahvaz. During the entire fourteen years, he has not been granted any furlough. 

The List of Prisoners Charged with Muharebeh and Sentenced to More than 20 Years

HRANA News Agency – Prisoners who have been charged with Muharebeh according to the old Penal Code, would find the chance of a retrial, after the changes and may receive reduction in their sentences or be released. Currently there are at least 48 male prisoners in Iranian prisons on charges of Muharebeh, who have in different ways been sentenced to more than twenty years imprisonment (with the exception of life imprisonment sentences).

Due to the changes in the Islamic Penal Code in 2013, these prisoners may request for a retrial. Ayoub Porkar Transferred to a Pirson Close to Shooshtar City

HRANA News Agency – Ayoub Porkar, political prisoner who had been exiled to Karoon prison, was transferred to a prison outside of city after Karoon prison was closed.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Ayoub Porkar, political prisoner, who had been exiled to Karoon prison, was transferred to a new prison outside of the city and close to Shooshtar, after Karoon prison was closed. This prison, which is famous with the name of Kanoon prison of Shooshtar, is not registered in the list of prisons in the prison bureau of Khouzestan province.
