Three Prisoners Executed in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan

Three prisoners previously convicted on drug-related charges and murder were executed in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan, on November 2, 2024.

HRANA has identified the prisoners as Moaven Mirjahani, an Afghan national, Shahrokh Saeedkhani, and Mohammad-Javad Karami. Mirjahani and Saeedkhani were sentenced to death on drug-related charges, while Karami had been convicted of murder.

At the time of this report, prison authorities and related institutions have yet to officially confirm these executions.

In 2023, 66% of HRANA’s reports on executions lacked official announcements by judicial authorities and went unreported by media inside Iran, highlighting a troubling lack of transparency in due process.

According to latest HRANA’s annual report over between October 10, 2023, and October 8, 2024, at least 811 individuals were executed by hanging in Iran, rising to 23.06% compared to the same period last year. Of these executions, four were carried out in public. Many of the defendants were denied a fair trial.

Today, October 31, the death sentences of three prisoners, previously convicted on charges of murder and drug-related offenses, were carried out in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan.

HRANA has confirmed the identities of the prisoners as Kourosh Salehian, Amir Jahandar, and Reza Bidabadi. Early this morning, Reza Bidabadi, sentenced to death on murder charges, was executed by hanging. Meanwhile, Salehian and Jahandar were executed on Monday, October 28, with Salehian convicted of murder and Jahandar on drug-related charges.

As of this report, prison officials and relevant authorities have yet to publicly confirm these executions.

The death sentences of three prisoners, each convicted of murder in separate cases, were recently carried out in Dastgerd Prison of Isfahan and Adelabad Prison of Shiraz, according to the Iran Human Rights Organization.

The executed prisoners were identified as Mohsen Mokhtari from Shiraz, Abbas Karimi, a 36-year-old father of two, and Mohammad Ali Najafi, a 35-year-old father of one from Shahin Shahr.

The executions of Najafi and Karimi took place on Thursday, October 17, 2024, in Dastgerd Prison, while Mokhtari was executed a day earlier on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz.

Najafi had been arrested three years ago and Karimi earlier, both on separate murder charges, before being sentenced to death by the judiciary. Mokhtari, who had been in custody for five years following a murder charge, was sentenced to death as well. He had been held in Ward 10 of Adelabad Prison prior to his execution.

Prisoner Executed in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan

The execution of a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death for murder was carried out in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan, on September 26, according to the Iran Human Rights Organization.

The prisoner has been identified as “Amirparsa Hasan-Zadeh.”

According to an informed source, Mr. Hasan-Zadeh was arrested three years ago, at the age of 19, on charges of murder and was subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and relevant institutions have not officially announced the execution.

According to the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran, in 2023, at least 767 citizens, including 21 women and 2 juvenile offenders, were executed. Of these, the executions of 7 individuals were carried out in public. Additionally, during this period, 172 others were sentenced to death, with 5 of them sentenced to public execution. It is worth noting that during the same period, the initial death sentences of 49 other individuals were also upheld by the Supreme Court.

Yesterday, September 11, a prisoner convicted of murder was executed in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan.

According to Iran Human Rights Organization, at dawn on Wednesday, September 11, Behnam Bagheri, a 30-year-old man, was executed in Dastgerd Prison.

Mr. Bagheri had been arrested five years ago on murder charges and was subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary.

As of the time of this report, prison officials and relevant authorities have not officially announced the execution.

According to the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran, in 2023, at least 767 citizens, including 21 women and 2 juvenile offenders, were executed. Of these, the executions of 7 individuals were carried out in public. Additionally, during this period, 172 others were sentenced to death, with 5 of them sentenced to public execution. It is worth noting that during the same period, the initial death sentences of 49 other individuals were also upheld by the Supreme Court.

A Report on the Latest Status of Three Political Prisoners in Evin Prison

Political prisoners Reza Rezaie, Hossein Jafar, and Yasin Mokhtari are currently serving their sentences in Evin Prison. These individuals were previously sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to prison, exile, and flogging.

Based on information received by HRANA, these citizens were arrested in June-July last year and initially transferred to Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan. They were then moved to the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility, known as Ward 209 of Evin Prison, and later to Ward 4 of the same prison. The Revolutionary Court sentenced them each to 3 years and 9 months in prison, 3 years of forced residence in Kahnooj, loacted in Kerman Province, or Hajjiabad in Hormozgan Province, and 80 lashes.

The charges against them include “aiding and abetting in enmity against God (Moharebeh) through the destruction and burning of public property with the intent to oppose the Islamic regime, membership in the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) and other opposition groups described as armed and rebellious, engaging in propaganda activities in favor of anti-regime groups, and forming a terrorist group.”

According to an informed source, “Despite the finalization of their sentences in February last year, their sentences have not been officially recorded in the prison system. As a result, they have been unable to pursue their cases, request furlough, or apply for conditional release, and they continue to be in a state of legal limbo.”

Rezaie, Jafar, and Yasin Mokhtari are 30, 27, and 22 years old, respectively, and are from Isfahan.

Mehdi Moghadari Sentenced to Prison and Other Penalties

Mehdi Moghadari, a former member of the Isfahan City Council, has been sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan to one year in prison, two years of a travel ban, and other penalties, as reported by Emtedad News Outlet.

According to the report, Mr. Moghadari was sentenced to one year in prison by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan on charges of “propaganda against the regime.” As part of the supplementary punishment, he has also been sentenced to a two-year ban on leaving the country, a ban on engaging in online activities, and a two-year prohibition from participating in groups, associations, and political parties.

Mehdi Moghadari was arrested by security forces in Isfahan in late November of 2022 and was released from Dastgerd Prison in February of the same year. He has a prior history of arrests and convictions.

Four Convicts Executed at Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan

On May 12, 2024, Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan was the site of the execution of four inmates, all convicted of a murder committed a decade ago.

According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the individuals executed were Masoud Estaki, Jafar Hosseinzadeh, Majid Rezaie, and Mostafa Ahgh-Mohammadi.

These men, along with Ghasem Salehi, were involved in a group altercation that resulted in the death of an individual identified only by the initials Sh.K. They were collectively sentenced to death in the ensuing legal proceedings. However, Ghasem Salehi was able to avoid execution by agreeing to pay 5 billion tomans in blood money to the family of the deceased.

No official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have provided coverage of these executions at the time of writing. Additionally, 2 juvenile offenders, defined as individuals under the age of 18 at the time of their alleged crimes, were also executed. Mahmood Mehrabi, a Political Prisoner, Receives Death Sentence

Mahmood (Mahmoud) Mehrabi has been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Isfahan on charges of “spreading corruption on earth.” He is currently held at Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.

Babak Eslami Farsani, Mehrabi’s legal representative, relayed that Branch 5 of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court issued the death sentence. Farsani highlighted that they were only informed of the decision at court, with no written verdict provided. He expressed hope that the Supreme Court would address the perceived shortcomings in the ruling. The court justified the sentence by accusing Mehrabi of “widespread dissemination of false information on Instagram.”

Mehrabi was first detained by security forces on February 1, 2023, in Isfahan, and was temporarily released on bail on March 16, 2023, only to be rearrested at his home shortly after.

In September 2023, Mehrabi faced a series of additional charges, including propaganda against the regime, incitement of police and military forces to disobedience, incitement to war, crimes against national security, and insulting the founder and Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In January of this year, he was further charged with publishing confidential information and committing acts of blasphemy, including insulting Shia Imams.

Mehrabi has a history of arrests and convictions linked to his activism.

Ten Inmates Executed in Shiraz, Isfahan, Qaen, Kahnuj

In recent days, ten inmates were executed in various prisons across Iran, including Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan, Qaen Prison, and Adelabad Prison in Shiraz, as well as Kahnuj Prison.

The Iran Human Rights Organization reported the execution of three inmates convicted of murder in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz, on April 21. The executed individuals were identified as Hossein Tavana Kodiani, 49; Taleb Akbari, 43; and Reza Masroor, 43, a father of two.

The first inmate had committed murder four years ago. The second individual was involved in a murder during a fight, while the third, a farmer, committed murder in a dispute over farm water.

According to Haal Vsh, on April 28, 2024, three inmates were executed for drug offenses in Qaen Prison, located in South Khorasan province. Two of the inmates were identified as Mohsen Karami (Rakhshani), 27, and Brahui (first name unknown). Karami was arrested for drug offenses four years ago. A source cited in the report mentioned that these inmates did not have a final visit with their families before their execution.

Haal Vsh also reported the execution of three inmates in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan, on April 29. One of the individuals was identified as Din-Mohammad Mirakhani, a resident of Iranshahr. All three were convicted of drug offenses.

Lastly, the Baloch Activists Campaign reported the execution of Mehdi Bamari, aged 24, in Kahnuj Prison in Kerman Province. He had been convicted of murder two years ago and was executed on the same day as the other inmates.
