Mehdi Saver-Olia Sentenced to Six Years in Prison and Additional Punishments

HRANA – Mehdi Saver-Olia, one of those arrested during the January 2026 protests and currently held at Karaj Central Penitentiary, was sentenced by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Karaj to six years in prison and additional punishments.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, Mehdi Saver-Olia has been sentenced to imprisonment and other punishments.

According to a verdict issued by Branch 2 of the Karaj Revolutionary Court and communicated to Mr. Saveralia, he was sentenced to one year in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the regime” and five years in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion to commit a crime against national security.” In addition, as supplementary punishments, the court sentenced him to a two-year ban on leaving the country, a two-year ban on membership in social groups and organizations, and a two-year prohibition and dismissal from all government and public-sector jobs and services.

Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, of the prison sentences imposed, the most severe sentence, five years, will be enforceable.

In July of this year, a court hearing on the charges against Mr. Saveralia was held before the aforementioned judicial branch.

Mehdi Saveralia was arrested by IRGC Intelligence agents in Karaj on January 7, 2026, and transferred to Karaj Central Penitentiary.

Background on the January 2026 Protests

The protests and strikes by shopkeepers and bazaar merchants began in Tehran on Sunday, December 28, 2025, and within two days spread beyond markets and commercial centers. Amin Naseri Arrested by Security Forces

HRANA – Amin Naseri, a resident of Asemanabad who had been wanted by security forces in connection with the January 2026 protests, was arrested yesterday by agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization in the city and transferred to an undisclosed location. During his arrest, Naseri was shot and wounded following an altercation with the agents.

According to HRANA, Amin Naseri was arrested in the city of Asemanabad.

A source close to Naseri’s family, who is familiar with the matter, confirmed the news to HRANA and said: “On Sunday, August 23, 2026, a number of IRGC Intelligence agents entered Asemanabad, located in Ilam Province, to arrest Amin Naseri. During the arrest, an altercation occurred, and Mr. Naseri was shot and wounded. He was subsequently arrested and transferred to an undisclosed location.”

As of the time of this report, no information has been obtained regarding Naseri’s whereabouts or current condition.

Amin Naseri is a resident of Asemanabad, a city in Chardavol County, Ilam Province.

Azar Yaho Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

HRANA – Branch 4 of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court sentenced Azar Yaho, a prisoner held at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, to three years in prison, with two years of the sentence suspended.

According to HRANA, Azar Yaho has been sentenced to imprisonment.

Based on a ruling issued by Branch 4 of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court, Yaho was sentenced to three years in prison on the charge of “cooperating with Israel” by posting a comment on Benjamin Netanyahu’s social media page. Two years of the sentence have been suspended.

Azar Yaho, aged approximately 39, was arrested by agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization in Mashhad on March 5, 2026, and transferred to Vakilabad Prison.

Yaho has also faced restrictions on communication with her family during her detention. According to a previous HRANA report, beginning July 5, she was punitively denied phone calls and family visits and transferred to Ward 6 of Vakilabad Prison. Prison officials said the measure was taken because information about her conditions in prison had been published, a claim denied by a source close to her family.

Younes Azadbar Arrested in Rasht

HRANA– Yesterday, Younes Azadbar, a resident of Rasht, was arrested and transferred to one of the detention facilities in the city.

According to HRANA, Younes Azadbar has been arrested.

Mr. Azadbar was arrested this morning, Sunday, August 16, following a protest gathering by retirees in Rasht. The arrest was carried out by agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization. Following his arrest, he was transferred to Detention Facility No. 2 in the city.

Mehrad Azadbar, Younes Azadbar’s son, stated that the case investigator has set bail at 1.5 billion tomans for his father’s release. He also said that Mr. Azadbar, who suffers from epilepsy and heart problems, has been denied access to his medications while in detention.

As of the time of this report, no information has been obtained regarding the reasons for his arrest or the charges brought against him.

Younes Azadbar, 62, is a resident of Sangar, a city in Rasht County. He has previously faced arrest and judicial convictions in connection with his activities.

Three Sunni Brothers Arrested in Shadegan

HRANA – On Sunday, August 9, three Sunni brothers were arrested by agents of the IRGC Intelligence in Shadegan and taken to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, Jihad Shaverdi, 40, Bagher Shaverdi, 28, and Fouad Shaverdi, 26, were arrested by agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization.

The three Sunni brothers were arrested on Sunday, August 9, 2026, by IRGC Intelligence agents at their respective homes in the city of Fallahiyeh (Shadegan). Following their arrests, they were taken to an undisclosed location.

As of the time of this report, no information has been obtained regarding the reasons for their arrests or the charges brought against them.

Arrest of Three Citizens by IRGC Intelligence Agents in Ravansar

HRANA – On Friday, July 17, Shahab Soleimani, a lawyer, along with Khalil Parandak and Idris Golmohammadi, residents of Ravansar, were arrested by agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization in the city and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to a report by HRANA, citing Kolbar News, three citizens have been arrested in Ravansar, Kermanshah province.

The identities of the detainees have been reported as Shahab Soleimani, a lawyer, and Khalil Parandak and Idris Golmohammadi.

According to the report, Shahab Soleimani, Khalil Parandak, and Idris Golmohammadi were arrested on Friday, July 17, by agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization in Ravansar County.

As of the time of this report, no information has been obtained regarding the reasons for their arrests, the charges brought against them, or their place of detention.

January 2026 Protests: Saman Doreh-Gard Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison

HRANA – Saman Doreh-Gard, arrested during the 2026 nationwide protests and currently imprisoned in Greater Tehran Penitentiary, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

Based on information received by HRANA, Saman Doreh-Gard was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Amouzad, on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security,” pursuant to Article 4 of the Law on Intensifying Punishment for Crimes Against National Security.

In early April 2026, he was transferred from Evin Prison to Greater Tehran Penitentiary.

Saman Doreh-Gard, aged approximately 22, was arrested alongside his brother, Rasoul Doreh-Gard, on January 10, 2026, by the IRGC intelligence agents in Tehran.

Rasoul Doreh-Gard, who had been temporarily released from Greater Tehran Penitentiary on March 14, 2026, after posting bail of 3 billion tomans, was later sentenced by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Taghizadeh, to a total of 24 months in prison. His sentence consists of 20 months of suspended imprisonment and 4 months of discretionary imprisonment. Having already served the custodial portion during his pretrial detention, he is currently free.

IRGC Intelligence Arrests Two Citizens in Sardasht

HRANA – Mullah Abu Bakr Yousefi and Younes Musapour, two residents of the city of Nalas in Sardasht County, have been held for four days after being arrested by agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization. They are currently being detained at one of the organization’s security detention facilities in Urmia.

According to HRANA, citing Kurdpa, Mullah Abu Bakr Yousefi and Younes Mousapour remain in custody.

According to the report, on the evening of July 5, 2026, agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization violently arrested the two men in the city of Nalas, part of Rabat District in Sardasht County, and transferred them to one of the IRGC Intelligence Organization’s security detention facilities in Urmia.

Since their arrest, the two detainees have been denied access to legal counsel, family visits, and telephone contact.

As of the time of this report, the reasons for their arrest and the charges brought against them remain unknown.

Mullah Abu Bakr Yousefi, also known as Mullah Abu Bakr Halweh, and Younes Mousapour are both residents of Nalas, a town in the Rabat District of Sardasht County.

Baha’i Citizen Saeed Hassani Arrested

HRANA – On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Saeed Hassani, a Baha’i resident of Shiraz, was arrested by agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization and transferred to Adel Abad Prison in the city.

According to HRANA, Baha’i citizen Saeed Hassani has been arrested in Shiraz.

A source close to Mr. Hassani’s family confirmed the arrest to HRANA, stating: “At approximately 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization went to Saeed Hassani’s workplace and arrested him. Following his arrest, he was transferred to Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.”

According to the same informed source, after the arrest, security agents also searched Mr. Hassani’s home and confiscated several personal belongings and electronic devices, including his mobile phone.

As of the time of this report, the reasons for his arrest and any charges brought against him remain unknown.

Saeed Hassani, a 37-year-old Baha’i citizen, has previously faced arrest and judicial prosecution due to his activities. He was arrested in July 2016 and released several months later after posting bail.

Over the past decade, Iran’s Baha’i community has faced more security-related arrests and judicial persecution than any other religious minority in the country. HRA’s annual reports indicate that, over the past three years, an average of 72% of all reported violations of the rights of religious minorities have involved violations of the rights of Baha’i citizens.

Kamal Omidi Remains Detained in Khomein Prison for Over 40 Days

HRANA – Kamal Omidi, a language instructor and director of a language institute in Khomein, has been detained for more than 40 days and is currently being held in Khomein Prison without observance of the principle of separation of prisoners based on the nature of their alleged offenses.

According to information received by HRANA, Mr. Omidi is currently being held alongside prisoners convicted of violent crimes in Khomein Prison, without the observance of the principle of classification and separation of inmates. Since his arrest, he has been denied access to legal counsel and family visits.

A source close to the family, who confirmed the information to HRANA, stated: “The reasons for Mr. Omidi’s arrest remain unknown. During this period, he has had several monitored phone calls with his family, but he has not provided any information regarding the status of his case.”

Kamal Omidi was arrested in Khomein by agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization in May 2026.

As of the time of writing, no information has been obtained regarding the charges brought against him.

Mr. Omidi, born in 1977, holds a Ph.D. in language studies and is the director of a language institute in Khomein.
