Prisoner Executed in Gonabad Prison for Drug-Related Charges

HRANA News Agency – On Tuesday, May 13, the death sentence of a prisoner previously convicted on drug-related charges was carried out in Gonabad Prison.

The prisoner has been identified as Ebrahim Joghatay, a resident of Sabzevar.

According to information obtained by HRANA, Mr. Joghatay had been arrested on drug-related charges and was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, the execution has not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

In 2024, according to 812 reports compiled by HRANA, the Iranian regime executed 930 individuals in its prisons—marking the highest number of executions in the past 12 years. Despite the scale of these executions, prison officials and other relevant authorities publicly acknowledged only 6% of them, highlighting the regime’s lack of transparency and accountability.

Appeals Court Upholds Prison and Exile Sentence for Mehrdad Moghiseh

HRANA – The Appeals Court of Razavi Khorasan Province has upheld the sentence of Mehrdad Moghiseh, confirming seven months and 15 days in prison and one year of exile.

According to information obtained by HRANA, the ruling—originally issued by Branch 1 of the Sabzevar Revolutionary Court—convicted Moghiseh of “propaganda against the regime” and sentenced him to imprisonment and exile to the town of Darmian. The appeals court affirmed the verdict without modification. His trial took place on March 11, 2025.

Mehrdad Moghiseh was among those arrested during the 2022 nationwide protests in Sabzevar. He has previously faced arrest and conviction related to his activism.

Appeals Court: Mojtaba Moghiseh Sentenced to Prison and Exile

HRANA News Agency – The Appeals Court of Khorasan Razavi Province has upheld the conviction of Mojtaba Moghiseh without any changes. He had previously been sentenced by Branch 1 of the Sabzevar Revolutionary Court to seven months and 15 days in prison and one year of exile.

Based on the verdict issued by the Appeals Court and delivered to him yesterday, he was sentenced to seven months and 15 days in prison and one year of exile to Khour County on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.”

In March, 2025, Branch 1 of the Sabzevar Revolutionary Court had initially sentenced him to prison and exile.

Another part of his case, on the charge of “insulting sanctities,” is still under review at Branch 103 of the Sabzevar Criminal Court.

Mr. Moghiseh was arrested on December 31, 2024, after being summoned to Branch 7 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Sabzevar and was then transferred to Sabzevar Prison.

On March 6, 2025, Moghiseh was released from Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad after posting a bail of 2 billion tomans. He had previously been transferred from Sabzevar Prison to Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad on February 20, 2025.

Mojtaba Moghiseh is one of those arrested during the 2022 nationwide protests in Sabzevar and had previously been arrested and convicted for his activism.

Revolutionary Court Sentences Seyed Jafar Foshtanqi to 12 Years in Prison

HRANA News Agency – Branch 1 of the Sabzevar Revolutionary Court has sentenced Seyed Jafar Foshtanqi, a Sabzevar resident, to 12 years in prison.

According to the verdict, Foshtanqi received:

. Five years in prison for “membership in anti-regime groups with the intent to disrupt national security,”
. Two years for “insulting the Supreme Leader and the founder of the Islamic Republic,” and
. Five additional years for “collaborating with hostile states.”

The court held his trial in absentia on April 10, 2025.

In a separate case, authorities tried Foshtanqi on April 22, 2025, at Branch 102 of the Sabzevar Criminal Court on charges of “spreading false information.” He was recently acquitted of these charges.

Security forces previously arrested Foshtanqi on February 19, 2025, after he appeared at Branch 2 of the Sabzevar Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities released him on bail one day later after formally charging him, setting bail at one billion tomans.

Earlier, on January 15, 2025, security agents raided Foshtanqi’s home, seizing personal belongings from him and his family and summoning him for further questioning at the Sabzevar Prosecutor’s Office.

Seyed Jafar Foshtanqi, approximately 34 years old, is married and the father of seven children.

Scholar of Mysticism Hamidreza Moraveji Sabzevari Detained by Security Forces in Sabzevar

HRANA News Agency – Hamidreza Moraveji Sabzevari, a scholar and researcher in the field of mysticism, has been detained by security forces in Sabzevar for the past nine days. His whereabouts remain unknown, raising serious concerns among his family and those close to him.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, Mr. Moraveji Sabzevari was arrested on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at his private residence by security forces and transferred to an undisclosed location. Since his arrest, there has been no information regarding his condition or place of detention.

Some state-affiliated media outlets have reported the charges against him as “encouraging people to corruption and conducting educational and promotional activities contrary to the sacred principles of Islam.”

Hamidreza Moraveji Sabzevari is a prominent researcher in the field of mysticism. Over the years, he has conducted more than two thousand sessions dedicated to the interpretation and analysis of the Quran, Rumi’s Masnavi, Attar’s Conference of the Birds, Hafez’s Ghazals, and other mystical texts.

Mojtaba Moghiseh Sentenced to Imprisonment and Exile

HRANA News Agency – Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Sabzevar has sentenced Mojtaba Moghiseh, a resident of Sabzevar, to seven months and 15 days of imprisonment and one year of exile.

According to the verdict recently issued and officially communicated to Mr. Moghiseh, he was convicted on the charge of propaganda against the regime. In addition, a separate case against him on the charge of insulting sanctities remains under review at Branch 103 of the Criminal Court of Sabzevar.

His trial was held on March 11 at the Sabzevar Revolutionary Court.

Earlier, on March 6, Mojtaba Moghiseh was released from Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad after posting bail set at 2 billion tomans. He had been transferred to Vakilabad Prison from Sabzevar Prison on February 21.

Moghiseh was initially arrested on December 31, 2024, after being summoned to Branch 7 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Sabzevar. He was subsequently transferred to Sabzevar Prison.

A former detainee of the 2022 nationwide protests, Moghiseh has a history of arrest and conviction due to his activism.

Three Citizens Arrested by Secutiry Police in Sabzevar

HRANA News Agency – Yesterday, January 30, Nahid Malvandi, Sajjad Poursekhavat, and Ali Pouyan Moghadam, residents of Sabzevar, Razavi Khorasan province, were arrested by the city’s security police. Among them, Ms. Malvandi was released after a few hours.

Based on information received by HRANA, yesterday, these individuals were arrested by the Sabzevar security police on the order of the city’s prosecutor. Ms. Malvandi was released after a few hours and was instructed to appear at the security agency on Saturday, February 1.

The reasons for their arrests and the charges against them remain unknown.

Mr. Poursokhavat and Mr. Pouyan Moghadam have previously faced security-related confrontations due to their activities.

Prisoner Executed for Drug-Related Charges in Gorgan Prison

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges was executed in Gorgan Prison.

The identity of the executed prisoner has been confirmed by HRANA as Farhad Khosrawi Sadkharv, a resident of Sabzevar.

Based on HRANA’s findings, Mr. Khosrawi had been arrested on drug-related charges and subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, the execution has not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant officials.

According to latest HRANA’s annual report over between October 10, 2023, and October 8, 2024, at least 811 individuals were executed by hanging in Iran, rising to 23.06% compared to the same period last year. Of these executions, four were carried out in public. Many of the defendants were denied a fair trial.

Two Prisoners Executed in Sabzevar Prison

Today, August 14, 2024, the death sentences of two prisoners convicted on drug-related charges were carried out in Sabzevar Prison.

HRANA has identified the prisoners as “Musa-Reza Ebrahimi, 24, and Reza Zardkoohi, 31.”
These individuals had been arrested on drug-related charges and were later sentenced to death by the judiciary. Mr. Ebrahimi was arrested approximately three years ago in connection with these charges and was subsequently transferred to Sabzevar Prison.

The prisoners were moved to solitary confinement yesterday in preparation for their executions.

As of the time of this report, the executions have not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

Prisoner Executed in Sabzevar Prison

At dawn on Tuesday, August 6, a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death on charges of murder was executed in Sabzevar Prison in Razavi Khorasan province, according to Iran Human Rights Organization.

The identity of this prisoner has been reported as “Akbar Gohari, approximately 40 years old and the father of one child.”

The report states that Mr. Gohari was arrested about three years ago on charges of murder and was sentenced to death by the judiciary.

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by prison officials or relevant authorities.

According to the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran, in 2023, at least 767 citizens, including 21 women and 2 juvenile offenders, were executed. Of these, the executions of 7 individuals were carried out in public. Additionally, during this period, 172 others were sentenced to death, with 5 of them sentenced to public execution. It is worth noting that during the same period, the initial death sentences of 49 other individuals were also upheld by the Supreme Court.
