Prisoner Executed in Sabzevar Prison

At dawn on Tuesday, August 6, a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death on charges of murder was executed in Sabzevar Prison in Razavi Khorasan province, according to Iran Human Rights Organization.

The identity of this prisoner has been reported as “Akbar Gohari, approximately 40 years old and the father of one child.”

The report states that Mr. Gohari was arrested about three years ago on charges of murder and was sentenced to death by the judiciary.

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by prison officials or relevant authorities.

According to the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran, in 2023, at least 767 citizens, including 21 women and 2 juvenile offenders, were executed. Of these, the executions of 7 individuals were carried out in public. Additionally, during this period, 172 others were sentenced to death, with 5 of them sentenced to public execution. It is worth noting that during the same period, the initial death sentences of 49 other individuals were also upheld by the Supreme Court.

Morteza Keyvanloo’s Sentence Upheld on Appeal

The seven months and fifteen days prison sentence for Morteza Keyvanloo, a resident of Joghatai County, has been upheld by the Court of Appeal of Razavi Khorasan Province.

Based on a ruling issued on June 18 of this year by Branch 35 of the Court of Appeal of Razavi Khorasan Province and communicated to Mr. Keyvanloo, he has been sentenced to seven months and fifteen days of discretionary imprisonment.

In May of this year, Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Sabzevar, presided over by Mohammad Gholami, convicted Keyvanloo of “propaganda against the regime on the Internet.”

Keyvanloo was arrested on February 18, 2024, by security forces in Sabzevar and was released about twenty days later on bail.

According to information received by HRANA, this citizen was also sentenced to six months in prison last year on a similar charge, with the issued sentence suspended for five years. Additionally, in another case, he was fined by the Joghatai Criminal Court.

Morteza Keyvanloo, aged around 41, is the father of two daughters and a resident of Joghatai County.

Appellate Court Upholds Six-Month Sentence for Propaganda Charges

In Razavi Khorasan Province, the Appellate Court has confirmed a six-month prison sentence for Ali Pouyan Moghaddam, a resident of Sabzevar.

A family associate relayed to HRANA that the appellate decision upheld the initial ruling.
The Sabzevar Revolutionary Court, under the jurisdiction of Judge Gholami, had initially found Moghaddam guilty of “spreading propaganda against the regime.”

He was detained by security forces on May 4, 2023, and subsequently released on bail after 12 days, pending the outcome of his legal proceedings.

 

Mohammad-Hossein Mohebi-Zadeh Arrested and Jailed in Sabzevar Prison

Mohammad-Hossein Mohebi-Zadeh, a resident of Joveyn County in Razavi Khorasan Province, was arrested and jailed in Sabzevar Prison, on April 29.

A source close to Mohebi-Zadeh’s family informed HRANA that he was apprehended by police and taken to Sabzevar Prison. The specific reason for his arrest is unknown at this time. He had previously been detained by security forces on February 29, 2024, in Sabzevar, and was held for two days before being released on bail.

Subsequently, Mohebi-Zadeh was summoned and indicted for “disseminating false information.” He has a history of judicial confrontations due to his activism.

 

 

Execution of Female Inmate in Sabzevar Prison

In Sabzevar Prison, Razavi Khorasan province, an inmate convicted of murder was executed on January 31, 2024. The hanged individual has been identified as 27-year-old Zahra Nazarian.

A reliable source confirmed Nazarian’s execution, revealing that she had been found guilty of killing her sister’s husband four years ago.

No official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have provided coverage of this execution at the time of writing. The lack of official information raises concerns about transparency and accountability in the execution process.

Execution of Three Inmates in Shirvan and Sabzevar Prisons

In a recent development, three inmates were executed in Shirvan and Sabzevar Prisons for crimes related to murder and drug offenses.

On January 22, 2024, the Iran Human Rights Organization reported the execution of 37-year-old Hossein Ali Shakurian and 51-year-old Naser Mavedat at Sabzevar Prison. Both individuals had been convicted of drug offenses in separate legal cases three and five years ago, respectively.

Additionally, on January 21, Shirvan Prison carried out the execution of 40-year-old Moslem Aliyari, who had been convicted of murder. The circumstances surrounding these executions raise concerns and prompt discussions on the broader issues related to capital punishment.

Woman Arrested in Sabzevar After Confrontation Over Hijab

Shakiba Yazdani, a 35-year-old resident of Sabzevar, was apprehended and subsequently incarcerated on Monday evening, August 7, following a dispute with a religious vigilante who confronted her about her hijab.

According to a source connected to the citizen’s family, the incident unfolded when an individual, invoking the religious duty of ‘enjoining good’, confronted Yazdani regarding her attire. Both parties attempted to record the encounter. Subsequently, after a span of two weeks, a group of ten intelligence agents affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), accompanied by the previously mentioned individual, who was a retired IRGC member, detained Yazdani and transferred her to the Sabzevar security police detention center.

The source also revealed that despite being hospitalized for a heart condition, Yazdani was not granted sufficient medical attention, as security personnel hindered her from receiving necessary care and subsequently returned her to the detention facility. On Tuesday, she was transferred to Sabzevar Prison.

As of now, the specific charges against Yazdani remain undisclosed.

 

Three Citizens Arrested in Sabzevar

On Thursday, May 4, 2023, Mohsen Baghaie, Sajjad Pour Sekhavat and Ali Pouyan Moghaddam were arrested by security forces in Sabzevar, Razavi Khorasan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, three citizens were arrested in Sabzevar.

The Ministry of Intelligence is responsible for their arrest. The reason for their arrest, the location of their detention and the allegations are currently unknown.

 

Iran Protests: Mehrdad and Mojtaba Moghiseh Sentenced to Imprisonment and Additional Punishments

The Sabzevar Revolutionary Court sentenced brothers Mehrdad and Mojtaba Moghiseh, arrested at recent protests, to nine years and six months in prison, and two years in exile.

Each of the Moghiseh brothers received six years for “clashing with the police and forming groups in order inciting people to riot” and three years and six months for “assembly and collusion to act against national security.” They have also been sentenced to two years in exile in Khour and Biabanak County, Isfahan province.

On September 24, 2022, security forces arrested them violently amid recent nationwide protests. According to an informed source, they were under pressure to make coerced confessions during the detention. On December 22, 2022, they were released on bail.
“One of their brothers, Masoud Moghiseh, an Oil Company employee, was suspended from work, even though he was not involved whatsoever.”

Media Activist Amir Maskani Sentenced to Imprisonment

The Revolutionary Court sentenced Amir Maskani, artist and media activist, to seven months in prison, nine months of suspended imprisonment and paying a fine. Maskani is a resident of Sabzevar, Razavi Khorasan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, media activist Amir Maskani was sentenced to imprisonment and paying a fine.

Maskani received three months for “propaganda against the regime” and thirteen months in prison, of which nine months is suspended, for “inciting people to commit murder and wage war against national security.” He was also fined five million tomans.

The court session was held on November 28, 2022.

Since the beginning of nationwide protests, about 19560 people, including journalists, artists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. So far, over protests, at least 756 people have been sentenced to a total of about 13128 months imprisonment.
