Iran Protests: Mina Alikhani Sentenced to One Year and 74 Lashes

The Zanjan Court of Appeals upheld the verdict against Mina Alikhani arrested at recent protests. Initially, the Criminal Court of Zanjan sentenced her to one year in prison and 74 lashes.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Mina Alikhani, one of the people arrested at recent protests, was sentenced to one year and flagellation on the charge of “disturbing public order.”

Documentary Filmmaker Shahin Samadpour Arrested

Documentary filmmaker and reporter Shahin Samadpour was arrested after an appearance at Evin Courthouse in Tehran.

It is worth mentioning that a while ago, Samadpour’s accounts on Instagram and Telegram went off following his report on Hananeh Kia’s family and her engaged man. 22-year-old Hananeh Kia was killed by security forces at recent protests.

The reason for Samadpour’s arrest and the charges are still unknown.

 

Mohsen Omrani Sentenced to Two Years in Prison

The Revolutionary Court of Borujerd recently sentenced Mohsen Omrani to two years in prison.

According to this verdict, Omrani has been sentenced to 18 months for “insulting the Supreme Leader of Iran,” and six months for “propaganda against the regime.” As of yet, the examples of these charges are unknown.

While on furlough during serving his previous sentence, Omrani was arrested on October 8, 2022, in the village of Chenarestan, Borujerd County. After completing the interrogation, he was transferred to Borujerd Prison.

In January of this year, Omrani was also sentenced to four months on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.” The next month, this verdict was upheld on appeal.

 

Amir-Emad Mirmirani Sentenced to Six Years

The Revolutionary Court sentenced Amir-Emad Mirmirani (known as Jadi) to six years in prison. Mirmirani was arrested for his social media posts during recent nationwide protests.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Amir-Emad Mirmirani was sentenced to six years in prison.

The Revolutionary Court of Tehran sentenced Mirmirani to five years for “assembly and collusion against national security” and one year for “propaganda against the regime.” Mirmirani’s content published on social media was presented as an example of the charges mentioned above. If this verdict is upheld on appeal, five years for “assembly and collusion,” as the account with the severest punishment, will be enforceable to him.

In October of this year, Mirmirani was arrested and jailed at Great Tehran Penitentiary, where he was held for 70 days until he was released on bail.

Mirmiran is a software developer and educator in the field of Free and open-source software and Linux.

Iran Protests: Seven People Arrested in Kerman

The public relations office of Kerman IRGC announced the arrest of seven allegedly “protest leaders,” of which several are dual-national.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, IRGC intelligence arrested seven people in Kerman and accused them of “leading protests.”

This IRGC official claimed that these individuals are members of an organization called Zagros, led by some from England.

This report did not disclose the detainee’s identities and the location they have been held.

Iran Protests: Farzad Taghavi Sentenced to Three Years Imprisonment

Recently, the East Azerbaijan Court of Appeal upheld Farad Taghavi’s sentence. He was initially sentenced to three years in prison and banned from leaving the country for two years.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Farzad Taghavi, age 31, a resident of Tabriz, was sentenced to three years in prison and banned from leaving the country for two years on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security and disturbing public order.”

Taghavi was violently arrested on September 27, 2022, by IRGC intelligence at protests in Tabriz. He was released on bail after 11 days of detention in one of IRGC’s detention facilities.

Mojgan Kavousi Faced Charge of Spreading Corruption on Earth

On Tuesday, December 20, 2022, Mojgan Kavousi’s first court hearing was held for the charge of “Spreading Corruption on Earth” by the Sari Revolutionary Court. Kavousi is currently jailed in Qaem Shahr Prion. Her detention has been recently extended.

An informed source told HRANA that Nowshahr Prosecutor’s Office accused her of “provoking people to depravity by publishing posts on social media” as an example of this charge.

On September 22, 2022, security forces arrested Kavousi at her home in Noshahr and transferred her to Tonekabon Prison on October 27 after completing interrogation. On December 16, 2022, she was relocated to Qaem Shahr Prison.

Kavousi faced other arrests and convictions on prior occasions.

 

 

 

 

Three Inmates Executed in Adel-Abad Prison

On Thursday, December 22, 2022, Adel-Abad Prison officials executed three inmates convicted of rape.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting IRNA, on December 22, 2022, three inmates were executed in Adel-Abad Prison, Shiraz.

The Chief Justice of Fars Province stated that the executed prisoners were convicted of raping women in a park in Shiraz last year.

The report did not reveal these individuals’ identities.

Mohammadi is still jailed since she cannot afford to pay bail.

Lawyer Negin Kiani Sentenced to One Year in Prison

Negin Kiani, attorney at law and a member of the East Azerbaijan Bar Association, was sentenced to one year in prison and banned from leaving the country.

According to this verdict, she was convicted of “propaganda against the regime.”

On October 23, 2022, security forces arrested Kiani and jailed her in Tabriz Prison. On November 13, she was released on a 500-million toman bail.
