Seven Individuals Arrested in Abdanan and Piranshahr

On October 20, 2022, security forces arrested a cleric, Zana Khoshaman and his wife, Sanoor Ghaderi, in Piranshahr, West Azerbaijan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, quoting Kurdpa, cleric Zana Khoshaman and his wife Sanoor Ghaderi were arrested in Piranshahr.

The security forces reportedly raided this couple’s house and arrested them without showing any arrest warrant.
 
In another report, five individuals identified as Esmail Bavir, Mohammad Zini Vand, Sattar Zeidi, Ali Soleimani and Mahmood Bazdar were arrested in Abdanan, Ilam Province. The reason for these arrests is still unknown.

 

Young Man Dies Suspiciously in Ahvaz Intelligence Office

Recently, a 20-year-old man arrested allegedly for possessing a prohibited weapon, died suspiciously in a detention facility at the disposal of the intelligence ministry.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, 20-year-old Ali Bani-Asad, a resident of Ahvaz, died in a detention facility in Ahvaz.

An informed source close to Bani-Asad’s family told HRANA that intelligence agents arrested him last week on suspicion of holding a prohibited weapon. A few days later, someone from the Revolutionary Court called his family to say that their son had lost his life and asked them to get his body.

“Forensic medicine has reported kidney failure as the cause of death. We know, however, that he did not have an underlying disease,” the source added.

This source asserted that Bani-Asad has never been involved in any political activities and did not participate in recent protests.

Poet Saeed Heleichi Arrested in Ahvaz

On October 19, 2022, security forces arrested poet Saeed Heleichi at his father’s house in Ahvaz.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on October 19, 2022, poet, translator and environmental activist Saeed Heleichi was arrested in Ahvaz.

Heleichi faced other arrests due to his civil activities especially his criticism over a water transfer project causing the drying up of the Karun river and adjacent marshes.

The reason for this arrest, the charges and his whereabouts are still unknown.

 

Journalist Farkhandeh Ashoori Arrested

On October 17, security forces arrested journalist Farkhandeh Ashoori at her house in Shiraz and transferred her to an unidentified location. She has not yet contacted her family.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on October 17, 2022, journalist Farkhandeh Ashoori was arrested in Shiraz.

An informed source told HRANA that at the time of arrest, the agents searched her house and confiscated some of her personal belongings.
 
“Recently, she had expressed her support of nationwide protests on her page on social media,” the source added.

 

Growing Concerns about Baha’i Prisoner Badi Khazei Following Evin Prison Fire

Since the Evin Prison fire, Baha’i prisoner Badi Khazei has not yet contacted his family. His family’s frequent inquiry has remained unanswered by prison officials.

An informed source told HRANA that, last week, Khazei travelled to Tehran from Bandar Abbas for some administrative work. On October 7 or 8, several plainclothes agents arrested him in the street and took him to Great Tehran Penitentiary. They transferred him to Evin prison once they realized he was a Baha’i. Since the Evin Prison incident on October 15, he has not contacted his family.

Journalist Mandana Sadeghi and Reza Mohammadi Arrested

On October 19, 2022, security forces arrested writer and journalist Mandana Sadeghi and her husband Reza Mohammadi at their house in Abadan. The agents transferred them to Ahvaz.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on October 19, Mandana Sadeghi and Reza Mohammadi were arrested.
 
The reason for this arrest and the charges are still unknown.
 
In March of this year, Sadeghi was acquitted of “propaganda against the regime” by the Criminal Court of Ahvaz.

 

Filmmaker Nik Yousefi Arrested

On October 16, 2022, security forces arrested photographer and filmmaker Nik Yousefi and transferred him to an unidentified location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on Sunday, October 16, photographer and filmmaker Nik Yousefi was arrested.

Since the arrest, he was allowed to make just one short phone call to his father.
 
The reason for this arrest, his whereabouts and the charges are still unknown.

Attorney at Law Amir Mehdi-Pour Arrested in Tabriz

Recently, related to the nationwide protests, security forces arrested attorney-at-law Amir Mehdi-Pour in Tabriz. Mehdi-Pour is a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Bar Association in East Azerbaijan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, attorney Amir Mehdi-Pour was arrested by security forces in Tabriz and transferred to an unidentified location.

In recent days, also two other attorneys Sina Yousefi and Ghasem Baadi were arrested in Tabriz. According to an informed source, Yousefi has been transferred from a detention facility in Tabriz to Evin Prison in Tehran.

Earlier, on Social media, Yousefi had revealed that over 1700 people were arrested during the nationwide protests in Tabriz.

 

 

Filmmaker Mojgan Ilanlu Arrested

On October 18, 2022, security forces arrested documentary filmmaker Mojgan Ilanlu and took her to Evin courthouse.

Today, on social media, Ilanlu wrote that security forces took her to Evin Courthouse. Recently, she posted her pictures without hijab in protest against the compulsory hijab and to support the nationwide protests.

Three Inmates Executed in Neyshabur and Zanjan Prisons

On October 13 and 15, 2022, three inmates convicted of murder and drug-related crimes were executed in Neyshabur and Zanjan Prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Human Rights Organization, on October 13 and 15, 2022, three inmates identified as Reza Gharelu, Ali Mohammad Saeedi and Sadegh Afkandeh (age 43) were executed in Neyshabur and Zanjan Prisons.

According to an informed source, Gharelu was convicted of killing one of his friends three years ago. Afkandeh was sentenced to death on drug-related charges four years ago. Mohammad Saeedi had been convicted of murder.

None of these executions has been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.
