Bakhash-Ali Askari Hanged While Children Watched

HRANA News Agency – This morning, Wednesday, October 26, 2011, Bakhash-Ali Askari was hanged in public in Qarchak, Tehran Province, while the young and the old watched.Bakhash-Ali Askari was convicted of murder and rape.

Released pictures by the state media clearly depict that the authorities enforce no age limits on the audience watching another human being hanged.

According to a report by Fars News Agency, after the court order was read, Bakhash-Ali Askari was hanged early this morning in Qarchak.He was convicted of two counts of murder and one count of rape and sentenced to death for each charge.The Supreme Court reviewed and upheld these sentences in less than a month.

At Least 19 Prisoners Secretly Executed in Vakil-Abad Prison

HRANA News Agency – Reliable sources in Iran have reported that a few groups of prisoners have been executed secretly in the city of Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan Province, from July 23, 2011 to September 22, 2011.Iranian Human Rights Organization has announced that its sources inside the country have reported that at least 19 prisoners were hanged secretly during this time.

According to these reports, two groups of prisoners, each consisting of 7 inmates, were secretly hanged in Vakil-Abad Prison on August 11, 2011 and September 20, 2011.Although Iranian government claims that during the month of Ramadan, no executions occur in Iran for religious reasons, August 11, 2011 coincided with the 11th day of Ramadan.Previously, Iranian Human Rights Organization’s reports indicated that other hangings also took place during this month.

Furthermore, at least 5 other inmates were executed together in Vakil-Abad Prison between August 11, 2011 and September 20, 2011.The exact number of inmates and the precise date are not known yet.All of the prisoners were convicted of crimes related to narcotics.

Six Prisoners Hanged in Zahedan; Executions Not Announced by IRI

HRANA News Agency – On Saturday, October 15, 2011, six prisoners were hanged in Zahedan Central Prison on charges of drug trafficking.[Zahedan is the capital city in Sistan and Baluchestan Province in southeast corner of the country.]

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), one of the prisoners hanged yesterday in Zahedan was an Afghani citizen.Although two days have passed since these prisoners were executed, Iran’s Judiciary Branch has not yet officially announced the news.

During the last few weeks, the number of executions throughout Iran has continued to increase while only a small number of these killings are formally confirmed by the Islamic Republic of Iran.Like before, the majority of hangings are performed secretly.

Four Rapists Were Hanged Today

HRANA News Agency – On Wednesday, October 12, 2011, four individuals convicted of rape were publicly hanged in Khomeini Shahr’s Behesht Park.After the death sentences were upheld by the Supreme Court, four rapists were hanged today while the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Esfahan Province and other local officials attended the event.

According to a report by Fars News Agency, the following individuals were hanged today after being convicted of charges of rape in Khomeini Shahr:

 

  • Abbas (single, 24 years old, with prior convictions for kidnapping and inappropriate relations in 2004 and 2008)
  • Rajab Ali (single, 23 years old, with prior convictions for consumption of alcohol, bullying and intimidation with a dagger and inappropriate relations)
  • Asghar (single, 20 years old, with prior convictions for bullying and intimidation with a knife, consumption of alcohol and inappropriate relations)
  • Mansor (single, 25 years old, with prior convictions for kidnapping in 2005)


On May 24, 2011, a group of women at a private party were abducted and gang raped at knife point in Khomeini Shahr.

Abdolreza Ghanbari’s Death Sentence Referred to the Enforcement Unit

HRANA News Agency – After the Amnesty and Clemency Commission rejected Abdolreza Ghanbari’s plea for reprieve, his case has been referred to the Revolutionary Court’s Enforcement Unit tasked to carry out the verdict.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Abdolreza Ghanbari is a high school teacher in Varamin County and holds a PhD degree in Literature and Persian language.He was arrested on December 27, 2009 during Ashura protests and charged with participating in and videotaping the demonstrations and sending the videos to opposition groups.

After his arrest, Abdolreza Ghanbari was denied the right to legal counsel and was not informed of his basic rights.On January 30, 2010, after a month and few days following the events of Ashura protests, he was tried, found guilty of all charges and sentenced to death by Judge Salavati who presided over the Revolutionary Court, Branch 15.

According to legal proceedings, the death penalty verdict then had to be sent to the Supreme Court.Instead, the case was referred to the Provincial Appeals Court, Branch 36, where Judge Zargar presided over the trial and upheld the death sentence.

It has been over a year since Abdolreza Ghanbari’s wife sent a letter to the Amnesty and Clemency Commission to ask for reprieve. Since the clemency request for Abdolreza Ghanbari has been turned down, the death penalty verdict has been sent to the Revolutionary Court’s Enforcement Unit to be carried out.

Four Rapists Will be Hanged on Wednesday

HRANA News Agency – Mohammad Reza Habibi, the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Esfahan Province, has announced that four individuals convicted of rape in Khomeini Shahr will be publicly hanged on Wednesday, October 12, 2011.On May 24, 2011, a group of women at a private party were abducted and gang raped at knife point in Khomeini Shahr.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Mohammad Reza Habibi confirmed that the Supreme Court has upheld the death penalty against four inmates convicted of rape in Khomeini Shahr.

Pointing out that these important rape cases were processed by the Supreme Court in the shortest amount of time possible, the Prosecutor added, “The Supreme Court examined these cases in less than 45 days and upheld the verdicts.The final ruling has now been given to Esfahan Judiciary.”

Confirming the death penalties, Mohammad Reza Habibi said, “On Wednesday, the verdicts will be carried out.”Stating that the exact location of hangings has not been determined yet, he added, “They will be hanged publicly in one the main squares in Khomeini Shahr.”

In relation to other defendants arrested for the same crime, the Prosecutor explained, “Since a few other suspects related to this case are still at large, we have suspended verdicts against other individuals charged with the same crime until more investigations are completed.”

Political Prisoner Aziz Khakzad Hanged Secretly in Kerman

HRANA News Agency – On Tuesday morning, October 4, 2011, political prisoner Aziz Khakzad was secretly hanged in Kerman Central Prison on charges of Waging War Against God (Moharebeh).He was a resident of Salmas County in Kurdistan Province and was exiled to Kerman to serve his prison term.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Aziz Khakzad was a 29 year old political activist arrested in 2007.The Revolutionary Court in Khoy County sentenced him to death on charges of Waging War Against God and helping opposition groups.As a result of efforts made by his family and friends, the Appeals Court had reduced the death sentence to 5 years in prison and exiled him to Kerman.

Last night, Aziz Khakzad was unexpectedly transferred from the general prison population to solitary confinement and was hanged in Kerman Prison this morning.Aziz Khakzad’s family received the news of his execution this morning but Iranian government officials have yet to confirm the report.

Eight Prisoners Hanged in Fars Province

HRANA News Agency – Eight prisoners convicted of drug related charges were hanged in Fars Province.

According to a report by Public Relations of Fars Province Judiciary, eight prisoners arrested in Abadeh, Nayriz, Kazeron and Boanat counties.After legal proceedings, death sentences were issued for all eight prisoners, and the order to carry out the verdict was confirmed by the prosecutor’s office in Fars Province.

The following prisoners were hanged on charges of smuggling, possessing, buying and selling of narcotics.Some of those hanged also had prior convictions for the same crimes:

  2. Mohammad Reza A.
  3. Abdolrasol T.
  4. Mohsen A.
  5. Ahmad K.
  6. Hadi K.
  7. Masih K.
  8. Mohsen Z.

 

Twenty Two Prisoners Hanged in Evin & Rajai-Shahr

HRANA News Agency – On Sunday, September 18, 2011, twenty two prisoners were hanged in Evin and Rajai-Shahr prisons.These inmates were previously transferred out of Ghazel Hesar Prison.The news of seven other prisoners also executed on Sunday was released yesterday.

Iranian state media has confirmed that twenty two prisoners have been hanged and reported, “The death sentences confirmed by the Attorney General were carried out on prison grounds in Evin and Rajai-Shahr prisons early yesterday morning.”These prisoners were charged with various crimes related to illegal drugs.

The following details about these prisoners have been released:

  1. Mohammad Kh. charged with selling 59 kg opium.
  2. Mohammad N. charged with transporting 480 grams of heroin into prison.
  3. Avaz P. charged with forming a drug trafficking gang and possession of 683 kg opium.
  4. Agha H. charged with membership in a drug trafficking gang and possession of illegal drugs.
  5. Jan B. charged with transporting 425 grams of heroin into prison.
  6. Ali G. charged with transporting 385 grams of crack cocaine into prison.
  7. Sadi C. charged with possession of 908 grams of crack cocaine, 5/7 grams of opium and 15 grams of the burnt leftover of opium.
  8. Esmail M. charged with distributing 150 kg of opium, selling 50 kg of illegal drugs and possessing 20 kg of opium.
  9. Hassan T. charged with transporting 265 grams of compressed heroin blocks into prison.
  10. Mehdi P. charged with possessing 67 kg of crack cocaine and 36 kg of opium.
  11. Mohammad E. charged with helping to transport 702 grams of heroin and distributing 650 grams of compressed heroin blocks into prison.
  12. Abbas A. charged with possessing 2 kg and 200 grams of heroin.
  13. Omaid Kh. charged with selling 4 kg of morphine.
  14. Vahid M. charged with transporting 307 grams of crack cocaine into prison.
  15. Saeid M. charged with helping to transport 1 kg of compressed heroin blocks.
  16. Ali P. charged with transporting 410 grams of compressed heroin blocks into prison.
  17. Shahram Sh. charged with transporting 670 grams of compressed heroin blocks into prison.
  18. Abdol Majid M. charged with transporting 391 grams of compressed heroin blocks into prison.
  19. Karim Q. charged with selling 49 kg and 500 grams of opium.
  20. Majid F. charged with transporting 346 grams of compressed heroin blocks into prison.
  21. Ali N. charged with transporting 420 grams of compressed heroin blocks into prison.
  22. Hatam M. charged with transporting 290 grams of compressed heroin blocks into prison.

Seven Prisoners Hanged in Rajai-Shahr Prison

HRANA News Agency – Seven prisoners were hanged early this morning in Rajai-Shahr Prison.In recent days, these individuals had been transferred from Ghazel Hesar Prison to solitary confinement in Ward 1 of Rajai-Shahr Prison.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists for Democracy in Iran, on Thursday, September 15, 2011, seven prisoners were transferred from Ward 2 in Ghazel Hesar Prison to Ward 1 of Rajai-Shahr Prison.Since then, they have been waiting for their execution orders to be carried out.On Sunday, September 18, 2011, these seven prisoners were hanged in Rajai-Shahr Prison.

Charges and details of legal proceedings against these prisoners have not been mentioned in the report, and Iranian judicial authorities have been silent regarding these hangings.

On Saturday, September 17, 2011, twenty other prisoners awaiting execution met with their families in Evin Prison.These prisoners were transferred from Ward 2 in Ghazel Hesar Prison to isolation cells in Evin Prison last week.
