Seven Inmates Eexecuted in Zabol, Ilam, Zahedan and Rasht Prisons

On January 20, two inmates on death row for drug-related crimes were executed in Zabol Prison. On the same day, three inmates in Ilam Prison and one in Rasht Prison, all convicted for murder, were executed. One inmate also was executed in Zahedan Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Hal Vash, 40 year old Jamal-e-din Gorgij and 34 year old Parviz Akbari Rad were executed in Zabol Prison. In 2018, Rad was arrested by road police near Zabol City. During the arrest, he was shot in the left hand. In 2020, the Revolutionary Court of Zabol sentenced him to death for drug trafficking.

In 2019, Gorgij was arrested for drug-related crimes in Zabol and sentenced to death the next year by the Revolutionary Court of Zabol.

In this report, on the same day, another inmate identified as Abdolhamid Samalzehi Kurni age 40, was executed in Zahedan Prison. He was sentenced to death two years ago. The verdict was confirmed by the Supreme Court.

Kurdpa reported that three inmates identified as Hamed Manoochehri, Mohammad Karim-Nejad and Sobhan Shoohani were executed in Ilam Central Prison. All three have previously been convicted for murder.

The Iran Human Rights Organization reported another execution in Rasht Central Prison. This inmate has been identified as 55 year old Ali Yazdani, who was convicted for murder. Reportedly, he was sent to the gallows along with another inmate on death row identified as Mohsen Nouruzi. Nouruzi was sent back to prison after he could get a moratorium from the victim’s family at the last moment.

Fallout from Execution Leads to Violence and the Death of a 16 Year Old Boy

Following the execution of an inmate who has been convicted for murder in Dehdasht Prison, a fierce quarrel broke out between the families of the victim and the executed inmate. A 16 year old boy was killed in the fight.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, an inmate identified as Khodadadi in Dehdasht was executed. The young man killed in the fight was Shahrokh Khodadadi.

Two years ago, Khodadadi was arrested accused of killing a man by the name of Saleh Afzoon. Subsequently, he was sentenced to death by judicial authorities.

After the execution and funeral, a fight broke out between the two families. Shahrokh Khodadadi was killed from a shot to the head and several others were injured.

As experts stress, capital punishment perpetuates the cycle of violence. This is particularly pertinent when the criminal law, derived from Islamic Sharia Law, considers the execution as vengeance which is decided by the blood avengers (usually one of the victim’s family members).

Two Inmates Executed in Adel-Abad and Khorramabad Prisons

On January 18, an inmate previously convicted for murder was executed in Adel-Abad Prison in Shiraz City. Yesterday, he had been relocated to a solitary confinement cell as procedure for carrying out the execution. Also last Sunday, an inmate who was convicted for murder was executed in Khorramabad Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, the inmate executed in Adel-Abad Prison was identified as Sajjad (surname unknown). Three and a half years ago, he was accused of and arrested for murder.

“In a group fight, where the police agents were also involved, one man was killed. They accused him of murder despite the fact that Sajjad had a rifle and the victim was shot dead by a colt. He never accepted this accusation,” according to an informed source.

According to Iran Human Rights Organization, last Sunday, another inmate was executed in Khorramabad Prison. He has been identified as Moslem Aghamirzai, 30 years old.

“Moslem was a building painter who two years ago killed a man in a fight to protect his friend’s sister.”

Neither of these executions have announced by judicial authorities or reported by media inside Iran.

Three Inmates Executed in Isfahan Central Prison

On January 13, three inmates were executed in Isfahan Central Prison. Two prisoners have previously been convicted for drug-related crimes and one for murder.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Iran Human Rights Organization, three inmates on death row, identified as Abolrahim Sargolzai, Mohammad-Jafar Salehi and Shahin Khosravi, were executed in Isfahan Central Prison.

Reportedly, Salehi had been in jail for four year after being convicted for murder.

None of these executions have been announced by judicial authorities or reported by media inside Iran.

Two People Previously Convicted for Arson Executed in Khorramabad City

On January 12, the Chief Justice of Lorestan Province announced that two citizens who were accused of setting fire to a gas station were executed.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Tasnim, the Chief Justice claimed that “On February 11, 2019, they set a fire on a gas station where two police agents were killed. Thereafter, they were detected, convicted and executed”.

The report did not reveal the identity of executed inmates, the exact date of the execution and the prison where the execution took place. Nonetheless, earlier on December 16, 2019, the same Chief Justice had announced the arrest of two expelled members of military forces in regards to the gas station fire incident.

At Least Six Inmates Executed in Rajai Shahr Prison

On January 12, at least six inmates were executed in Rajai Shahr Prison. All of the prisoners executed had been sentenced to death for murder.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Wednesday morning, two of these executed prisoners as Shahin Allah-Moradi and Mohammad Bavi. The Iran Human Rights Organization has also identified two other inmates as Amin Safari and Peyman Mousavi.

Three other inmates on death row were transferred to solitary confinement to await their execution, but were able to get a moratorium from the blood avenger (a member of the victim’s family). Also on January 12, Rahborde Moaser News Outlet reported the execution of an inmate in Rajai Shahr Prison. Reportedly, he was a guard at Imam Sadiq University who was accused of killing one of the university managers. The report did not reveal the identity of the executed inmate.

Three Inmates Executed in Zanjan and Qazvin Prisons

On January 11, two inmates previously convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in Zanjan Central Prison. Last Sunday, an inmate convicted of murder was executed in Qazvin Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Human Rights Organization, the two inmates executed in Zanjan were identified as two brothers, Farhang and Yaser Ali Elahi, aged 35 and 32 years old respectively. The brothers were imprisoned for five years and sentenced to death for drug-related crimes. Additionally, last Sunday, an inmate identified as Mohammad Rasool Baghadam was executed in Qazvin Prison.

“In 2018, Mohammad Rasool Baghadam was arrested for killing a construction worker and sentenced to death in 2019. He was a chandelier maker and committed murder for financial reasons,” an informed source reported.

At the time of writing, no official sources and media outlets inside the country have reported these executions.

Two Inmates Executed in Adel-Abad Prison

On January 2, an inmate was executed in Adel-Abad Prison after being sentenced to death for drug-related crimes. Last Wednesday, another inmate on death row for murder was executed in the same prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rasank News Outlet, Mohammad Salarzehi, a native of Zahedan City was executed for drug related crimes without informing his family. He had reportedly been in Adel-Abad Prison since 2019.

According to the Iran Human Rights Organization, Amin Alipanahi was executed in Wednesday Adel-Abad prison.

“Four years ago, Amin Alipanahi was arrested for committing murder. He was accused of killing his wife’s cousin for honour issues. During this time, he never could exact satisfaction from the victim’s family,” an informed source in the report stated.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country have reported these executions at the time of writing.

Hassan Ghorbani, Brother of Heidar Ghorani, Arrested By Security Forces

On December 19, security forces arrested Hassan Ghorbani following the execution of his brother, Heidar Ghobrani, in Sanandaj Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, an informed source revealed that “security forces refused to deliver Heidar Ghorbani’s body to his family and instead buried him secretly”.

Heidar Ghorbani was a political prisoner who was sentenced to death for alleged “armed insurrection against the regime” (Baghi). Last Sunday, he was executed in Sanandaj Prison despite international outcry.

Three Inmates Executed in Shiraz Central Prison and Dastgerd Prison

On December 19, two death row inmates previously convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in Shiraz Central Prison. In Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan, a female inmate was executed for committing murder.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ‏the Baloch Activists Campaign, Naeem She-Bakhsh and Abdolkhalegh Salar-Zehi, were executed in Shiraz Central Prison. They were natives of Kolahoor Village in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

Per a report by Iran Human Rights, a woman identified as Fatemeh Aslani was executed in the Dastgerd Prison of Isfahan. In the report, and informed source stated that “Nine years ago, Fatemeh Aslani was arrested allegedly for killing her husband for abetting one of her relatives with whom she secretly had affairs. She pleaded not guilty. Because the murderer had left the country, they executed her instead”.
