Three Prisoners, Including a Woman, Executed in Gorgan Prison

HRANA News Agency – At dawn today, May 12, the death sentences of three prisoners, including one woman, who had previously been convicted of murder in separate cases, were carried out in Gorgan Prison.

Iran Human Rights has identified the identities of the executed prisoners as Mahboobeh Khosrow-Nejad (female); Firooz (Erfan) Aliyari, 28, from Gorgan; and Safa Qaradashi, 26, from Aq-Qala, located in Golestan Province.

According to the report, Mahboobeh Khosrow-Nejad was arrested five years ago on charges of murdering her cousin and was sentenced to death. Mr. Aliyari and Mr. Qaradashi were also arrested four years ago in separate murder cases and later sentenced to death by the criminal court.

As of the time this report was prepared, the executions have not been officially confirmed by prison officials or relevant authorities.

In 2024, according to 812 reports compiled by HRANA, the Iranian regime executed 930 individuals in its prisons—marking the highest number of executions in the past 12 years. Despite the scale of these executions, prison officials and other relevant authorities publicly acknowledged only 6% of them, highlighting the regime’s lack of transparency and accountability.

Prisoner Executed for Drug-Related Charges in Gorgan Prison

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges was executed in Gorgan Prison.

The identity of the executed prisoner has been confirmed by HRANA as Farhad Khosrawi Sadkharv, a resident of Sabzevar.

Based on HRANA’s findings, Mr. Khosrawi had been arrested on drug-related charges and subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, the execution has not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant officials.

According to latest HRANA’s annual report over between October 10, 2023, and October 8, 2024, at least 811 individuals were executed by hanging in Iran, rising to 23.06% compared to the same period last year. Of these executions, four were carried out in public. Many of the defendants were denied a fair trial.

Prisoner Executed in Gorgan Prison for Drug Offenses

At dawn October 23 the execution of a prisoner previously sentenced to death on drug-related charges was carried out in Gorgan Prison.

HRANA has identified the prisoner as “Armin Aghcheli.” Based on reports received by HRANA, Mr. Aghcheli was arrested in 2019 on drug-related charges and was subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary.

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

According to HRANA’s latest annual report, between October 10, 2023, and October 8, 2024, at least 811 individuals were executed in Iran, marking a 23.06% increase compared to the same period last year. Four of these executions were carried out publicly, with many of the accused reportedly being denied fair trials.

Two Inmates Executed in Gorgan Prison

The Gorgan Prison officials carried out the execution of two inmates convicted of murder.

HRANA has identified these individuals as Sha’aban Yousefi and Bazi (first name unknown). A source informed HRANA that Yousefi, convicted of murder, was executed on May 16, 2023, in Gorgan Prison.

According to his source, Bazi, who received the death penalty for killing someone during an inheritance dispute, was executed on May 23, 2023.

As of the time of this report, there have been no official statements or reports from domestic media outlets regarding these executions.

In 2022, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran registered 457 reports related to the death penalty. This included 92 death sentences, including the conviction of 6 people to public execution and 565 execution sentences were carried out, 2 of which have been carried out in public. Based on the announced identifications of some of the executed individuals, 501 were male and 11 were female. In addition, 5 juvenile offenders were executed in 2022, meaning they were under the age of 18 at the time they committed the crime.

 

 

 

Two Inmates Executed in Rasht and Gorgan

On January 11, 2023, an inmate convicted of murder was executed in Lakan Prison, Rasht. HRANA has identified the inmate as Milad Ashoob.

Also, another inmate, identified as Shahram Mortazavi, was executed in Gorgan Prison on the same day. An informed source close to his family told HRANA that he committed murder during a fight.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country has reported these executions at the time of writing.

Report on Recent Executions of Eight Inmates in Five Prisons

Eight inmates on death row for different criminal cases were executed in Amol, Gorgan, Rajai-Shahr, Meshgin, and Arabail prisons. 

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, 45 year old Hashem Amiri was executed in Gorgan Prison on Sunday. In 2013, he committed murder during a house burglary.

According to another HRANA report, a female inmate who was convicted of killing her husband seven years ago was executed in Amol prison last Tuesday. “Since the prison guards refused to put the rope around her neck, she had to wait hours at the gallows until a prison officer from outside prison came and hung the woman”, an informed source told HRANA.

In Rajai Shahr Prison, located in Karaj City, ten inmates on death row were transferred to solitary confinement cells awaiting their executions. Four inmates were executed on December 15. HRANA has identified one of these executed inmates as Mahmood Mohmoodi. Iran Human Rights Organization has identified three others as Hamed Mousavi, Kurosh Mazaheri and Davoud (family name is unidentified). The six other inmates each could obtain a moratorium from the victim’s family.

According to the Iran Human Rights Organization, an inmate identified as Mohammad Tazehkar was executed in Meshgin Shahr Prison last Sunday. In 2017, he was convicted of killing his friend. It is likely that he was underage at the time of committing the crime.

The Iran Human Rights Organization also reports the execution of 40 year old Mohammad Khodai in Ardabil Prison. Five years ago, he was sentenced to death for murdering his wife.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country has reported these executions at the time of writing.

The most recent report from the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between October 8 of 2020 and October 9 of 2021, at least 266 citizens, three of whom were juvenile offenders, were executed and 90 citizens were sentenced to death.

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 82% of executions. These unreported executions are known as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

One Prisoner Hanged in Gorgan Prison

HRANA News Agency – The death sentence of a prisoner was executed on Sunday 6th March, in Gorgan prison.
