Execution of 22 Prisoners on Murder and Drug-Related Charges

HRANA – At the same time as nationwide protests in Iran, and amid widespread internet disruptions and severe restrictions on the flow of information, the death sentences of at least 22 prisoners, previously convicted on charges of murder and drug-related offenses, were carried out in various prisons across the country.

Based on information received by HRANA, at dawn on Monday, January 19, these individuals were executed on murder charges:

• Navid Jabbari in Neyshapur Prison,
• Alireza Barani in Dorud Prison,
• Kimia Khani in Isfahan Prison,
• Kabir Akhlaghi in Gorgan Prison,
• Kiarash Langaroudi in Zanjan Prison,
• Bahram Hassanpour in Saveh Prison,
• Faramarz Amoozad in Nowshahr Prison

Additionally, Goodarz Barzegar in Kashan Prison and Iman Niri in Kerman Prison were hanged yesterday morning on charges related to drug offenses.

Meanwhile, at dawn today, Tuesday, January 20, the execution sentences of Rastin Majidi in Ahvaz Prison and Sirus Meshkini in Jiroft Prison on murder charges, as well as Mobin Golmohammadi in Yazd Prison and Nader Aini in Bam Prison on drug-related charges, were carried out.

Execution of 9 Other Prisoners

According to Iran Human Rights Organization, on December 31, five prisoners were executed in Shiraz Prison. The identities of those executed were reported as Saeed Partovi, 24, Ali Partovi, Arash Shamsi, 28 and from Fasa, Nasser Mirzaei, 32, and Sohrab Imani, from Shiraz. According to the report, Saeed and Ali Partovi, who were cousins, had been arrested about two years ago on charges of murdering a police officer in Shiraz and were sentenced to death. The death sentences of the other prisoners were also issued by criminal courts on murder charges.

Separately, on January 18, Kian Manouchehri, 22, from Ardakan, was executed in Yazd Prison. In addition, the death sentence of Khosrow Alishahi, 25, from Tehran, was carried out on January 4 in Qom Prison. Furthermore, Seyed Mohammad Attari, 37, and Moharram Sarchemi, 59, a father of four, both from Tabriz, were executed on January 13 in separate cases on murder charges in Tabriz Prison.

As of the time of this report, the executions of these prisoners have not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

The continued large-scale implementation of death sentences amid internet shutdowns and severe restrictions on information has intensified concerns over the lack of judicial transparency, prisoners’ denial of access to fair trials, and the heightened risk of violations of the right to life. Human rights organizations have repeatedly warned that carrying out these punishments in a highly securitized and non-transparent environment increases the likelihood of serious human rights violations.

According to HRA’s annual report, at least 2,063 people were executed in Iran during the one-year period from January 1, 2025 to January 1, 2026. Based on this data, executions increased by 119% compared to 2024. In many of these cases, due to secrecy, prisoners were even denied the right to a final visit with their families.

Three Prisoners Executed in Isfahan Prison

HRANA News Agency – At dawn on Wednesday, June 25, the death sentences of three prisoners previously convicted of murder in separate cases were carried out in Isfahan Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, the identities of two of the executed individuals—Masoud Jafari and Mahan Mahini—have been confirmed. The identity of the third prisoner, an Afghan national, remains unknown.

These individuals had been arrested and sentenced to death by criminal courts in separate murder cases.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and relevant institutions have not officially announced the executions.

In 2024, according to 812 reports compiled by HRANA, the Iranian regime executed 930 individuals in its prisons—marking the highest number of executions in the past 12 years. Despite the scale of these executions, prison officials and other relevant authorities publicly acknowledged only 6% of them, highlighting the regime’s lack of transparency and accountability.

Enayatollah Naeimi Arrested After Court Hearing

HRANA, Human Rights Activists News Agency- On May 6, 2023, Baha’i citizen Enayatollah Naeimi was arrested and taken to an undisclosed location after a court hearing held by the Isfahan Revolutionary Court. The charges against Naeimi remain unknown.

Naeimi had previously been arrested on September 28, 2023, in Isfahan, during which security forces searched his house, workplace, and garden in the Isfahan suburbs. He was later released temporarily on bail from Isfahan Prison.
Naeimi was a member of the now-disbanded Baha’i group, “Yaran e Iran” or “Friends of Iran,” which catered to the spiritual and social needs of the Baha’i community.

According to HRANA annual report, from the total human rights reports regarding the violation of religious minorities’ rights, 64.63% belonged to the violation of the rights of Baha’is.

According to unofficial sources, it is estimated that more than 300,000 Baha’is live in Iran, but the Iranian Constitution recognizes only Islam as the official religion, in addition to Christianity, Judaism, and Zoroastrianism. Baha’i faith is not considered legitimate by the authorities, and the rights of Baha’is in Iran have been systematically violated for years.

The deprivation of the freedom to practice their religion is a breach of Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The United Nations covenant holds that every person has the right to freedom of religion, freedom of converting religion, as well as freedom of expression, individually or collectively; openly or secretly.

 

 

Three Inmates Executed in Isfahan Prison and Adel-Abad Prison in Shiraz

On December 12, an inmate previously convicted of drug-related crimes was executed in Isfahan Prison. He had been transferred to a solitary confinement cell one day before the execution. Additionally, in Adel-Abad Prison in Shiraz, two inmates were executed for committing murder.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, the inmate was identified as 33 year old Abdolsalam Barahooi, a resident of Zahedan City. While his wife was permitted a final visit, the rest of his family was denied the opportunity.

In 2018, Barahooi was arrested for carrying drugs in Isfahan and thereafter sentenced to death.

Moreover, Iran Human Rights reported the execution of two inmates identified as Bakhtiar Sarmadi and Hossein Heydarzadeh in Adel-Abad Prison in Shiraz City.

Sarmadi and Heydarzadeh were charged with killing a man five years ago. Their case had three defendants, and the third defendant was sentenced to 12 years in prison for aiding and abetting the murder.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country have reported this execution at the time of writing.

The most recent report from the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between October 8 of 2020 and October 9 of 2021, at least 266 citizens, three of whom were juvenile offenders, were executed and 90 citizens were sentenced to death.

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 82% of executions. These unreported executions are known as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

At Least Eight Inmates Executed this week in Multiple Prisons, Including Qom, Kermanshah and Isfahan

This week, at least eight inmates were executed in multiple prisons, including Qom, Kermanshah and Isfahan.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Human Rights, two inmates were executed in Kermanshah Prison on Monday, October 11, four inmates were executed in Isfahan on Tuesday, and two others were executed in Qom Prison on Wednesday.

Two inmates who had been convicted of murder were executed in Diezl-Abad Prison in Kermanshah on Monday, October 11. One of the inmates has been identified as 23-year-old Muhammad Latifi. The report suggests that it is likely more inmates were executed on that day than have been confirmed.

Iran Human Rights also has reported the execution of four inmates in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan. These inmates had been convicted for drug-related crimes.

In another report, on Wednesday, October 13, two inmates, convicted of murder, were executed in Qom Central Prison. One of the inmates has been identified as Ali Amrollahi, a native of Afghanistan. He has been imprisoned since four years ago when he was convicted of “honor killing”.

The most recent report of the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between October 8 of 2020 and October 9 of 2021, at least 266 citizens were executed and 90 citizens were sentenced to death.

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 82% of carried-out executions, dubbed as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

None of these executions have been announced by official sources in Iran as of this writing.

At Least 4 Inmates Executed in Birjand Prison and Isfahan Prison

At dawn on Sunday, August 8, two inmates were executed in Birjand Prison and two other inmates were executed in Isfahan Prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rasank news, all 4 prisoners had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

The two inmates executed in Birjand Prison have been identified as Zabihollah Hormozi, known as Mehrollah Sanjarani, from Zahedan, and Majid Goleh Bacheh from Torbat-e- Jam.

The two prisoners executed in Isfahan Prison are Azam Mohammad Hosseini (Kiazehi) and Seyed Esmail Kord Tamini, both from Zahedan.

Iran ranks first in the world in citizen executions per capita, according to international organizations. The Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) reported that between January 1 and December 20 of 2020, at least 236 citizens were executed. One of these citizens was executed publicly, and two were juvenile offenders. An additional 95 citizens were sentenced to death.

According to the same report, more than 72% of executions in Iran are not reported by the government or the judiciary, which human rights organizations call “secret” executions.

The execution of these 4 prisoners has not been announced by Iranian media or official sources as of this writing.

Prisoner Executed on Drug-Related Charges in Isfahan Prison

At dawn on Sunday, July 25, a prisoner named Ebrahim Shah Bakhsh was executed in Isfahan Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Baloch Activist Campaign, Bakhsh had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges. Mr. Shah Bakhsh was 23 years old and a native of Zahedan.

Amir and Akbar Jalilifar Executed in Isfahan prison

On Saturday, July 10, two prisoners were executed in Isfahan Central Prison on drug-related charges.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Human Rights Organization of Iran, the executed prisoners have been identified as Amir and Akbar Jalilifar. According to the report, Akbar Jalilifar was married and has one child.

The report states that, according to an informed source, Amir and Akbar were arrested and sentenced to death four years ago on charges of carrying 180 kilograms of narcotics.
