HRANA’s Daily Review of Protests in Iran

On September 10-11, 2022, at least eleven protests and two labour strikes took place in Iran.

Saturday, September 11

The families of prisoners who are on death row continued their protests before the Justice Building in Tehran. They asked judicial authorities to stop executions. According to HRANA’s latest statistics, there are 46 death-row convicts in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

 

In Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, a group of women’s rights activists gathered in front of the Justice Building to ask for safety for women following Shalir Rasouli’s death at a hospital last Thursday. Rasouli threw herself out of the window of her apartment to escape an assailant.

Along with their families, Achondroplasia (a genetic disorder) patients held a protest before the Food and Drug Administration in Tehran. They demanded supplying and importing their needed drugs such as Voxzogo.

In Alborz province, a group of citizens protested against demolishing a ski resort which is a tourist attraction.

A group of Urmia residents demonstrated to demand rescuing Urmia Lake from drying up completely.

 

Sunday, September 11

The families of prisoners presently on death row continued their protests before the Headquarters of the Judiciary in Tehran. They demanded stopping the executions.

The pensioners of the Fulad Pension Fund demonstrated in front of the building of this fund in Isfahan, Tehran and Ahvaz. They demanded addressing pensions disparities and a 38% increase in pensions.

The workers of the Rudbar’s Municipality protested to demand unpaid wages for the last two months and accumulated unpaid wages equivalent to four-month wages during the last year. Moreover, there are some unpaid benefits like severance and overtime pay accumulated during the past nine years.

In Tehran, a group of teachers and families with exceptional children protested against new restrictions on school transport service in front of the Special Education Organization.

In Asaluyeh, The workers of the petrochemical company Dena went on strikes to protest against the two months of non-payment.

The temporary workers of the Islamabad Petrochemical Company staged a labour strike to demand the last two months’ wages.

This week, nationwide protests continued in Iran following the widespread protests in Khuzestan. A number of labor protests took place as well. According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, employees of Haft-Tappeh Agro Industry Co. continued their strike into a 5th week. Saturday, August 7

Several residents of Damash village from Amarloo district of Rudbar city, a group of workers of Sepahan Isfahan Cement Factory, medical intern students in Kermanshah, bakers in Zanjan, and several workers of Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Agro-Industry Company for a 26th consecutive day, held rallies in which they called on their demands to be addressed.

Several workers of Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Agro-Industry Co. for a 27th consecutive day, a group of Caspian Financial Institution shareholders in Tehran, a group of Steel Fund retirees in Isfahan and Khuzestan, a number of medical interns for the second consecutive day in Kermanshah, workers,  personnel of Hoveyzeh Water and Sewerage in Khuzestan Province, and a group of employees of Saveh Fire Department held protest rallies on Sunday.

On the 30th day of their strike in Shush, several workers of Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Agro-Industry Company protested.  In Tehran, teachers of Literacy Movement Organization of Iran protested and called on their demands be addressed.

On Saturday, May 29, A group of farmers in Ahvaz city held a rally in front of the Khuzestan governor’s building near the Salman water supply canal to protest water shortages. Teachers of Green Result-Letter rallied in front of the Ministry of Education building in Tehran. Staff of Imam Khomeini Hospital in Karaj gathered after receiving inaccurate salary payments in the hospital area. Izeh preschool teachers rallied in the city’s education building and protested uncertainty over their employment status. Persian Gulf Holding staff protested in front of the gate of the special Mahshahr site. Protestors called on their demands to be addressed.

On June 30, farmers from different villages of Ahvaz city held a rally for the second consecutive day in front of the Khuzestan governor’s building. Retirees of Khuzestan Steel Company held rallies in several cities including Tehran, Ahvaz, Isfahan, and Rudbar in front of their cities’ Civil Servants Pension Fund buildings. A group of teachers and staff of non-profit schools from different cities gathered in front of the Islamic Consultative Assembly building in Tehran, in front of the Education Department in Isfahan. Several professors at Azad University in Ahvaz, Shiraz, and Isfahan rallied in front of the campus buildings of their towns. Several fired workers of Mahshahr Petroleum Products Distribution Company gathered in front of the entrance of the oil depot of this city. Bankrupted investors in Caspian Financial Institution rallied in front of the Judiciary building in Tehran. Villagers of Bloband from the Kharqan section of Zarandieh city in Markazi Province held rallies as well.

Several employees of the Persian Gulf Holding Oil protested in front of Mahshahr Petrochemical Site 4. A group of teachers rallied in front of the Islamic Consultative Assembly building in Tehran. Service staff of the National Iranian Drilling Camp protested in Ahvaz. Staff of Imam Hospital Khomeini protested in Karaj. Tuesday, June 1

 

A group of Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane workers protested in front of the management office complex. A group of landowners in the new city of Pardis gathered in front of the Judiciary building, several of whom lost money to the Mehr View Housing project in Tabriz, at the project’s site.  Masjed-e-Soleiman ranchers who lost their livestock to sewage water pollution of Masjed Soleiman Petrochemical protested the devastating oversight.  A group of bus drivers in the bus terminal of Shiraz held protest rallies and called on their demands to be addressed.

Workers of Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane gathered in front of the complex’s management building for the second day in a row and protested. A group of Ahwaz Water and Wastewater personnel rallied in front of the company’s building.

Thursday, June 3

 

Workers of Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Cane, who say they have not yet received their salaries for the past two months, rallied for the third day in a row in the company’s yard. Police responded violently to the demonstration. In Tehran, BRT bus drivers  rallied to call on their demands to be addressed.
