At Least 7 Civil Activists Arrested Across the Country

HRANA News Agency – At least seven civil activists were arrested by security forces in different parts of the country. Among the detainees, Saeed Eqbal, Dariush Zandi, Shima Babaei, Leyla Farjami, Mahmoud Masumi and Behnam Mousivand have been so far identified, but the number of the detainees will probably increase.

A Poet and a Writer Arrested in Iran

HRANA News Agency – Shahriar Galavani, writer, translator and literature critic, was arrested by security forces in his house in Khoy on January 4, 2018. On the other hand, Mohammad Bam, poet from Abadan, was also arrested after attending protests in Abadan.

Imprisonment Sentences of Two Activists Upheld by Appeals Court

HRANA News Agency – The primitive court verdict for Ghasem Ghanbari and Mir Mohammad Miri, two political activists from the village of Dale in Gachsaran District, who had been previously sentenced to two years of imprisonment and lashes on charges of propaganda against the regime and insulting the leadership, was upheld by the third branch of the Court of Appeals in Kohkiluyeh and Bouyer Ahmad Province. The verdict was announced to the defendants recently.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), the two-year imprisonment sentence for Ghasem Ghanbari and Mir (Sayed) Mohammad Miri, which had been previously issued by the Gachsaran Revolutionary Court, was confirmed by the Appeals Court. Seven Death Row Sunni Prisoners Awaiting New Trial

HRANA News Agency – Seven Sunni prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj who had formerly been sentenced to death by the Supreme Court, are still in a state of uncertainty on the eve of the ninth year of their imprisonment.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), seven Sunni prisoners, including Davoud Abdollahi, Kamran Sheikheh, Farhad Salimi, Anvar Khezri, Khosrow Besharat, Qasim Abesteh, and Ayoub Karimi, are detained since December 7, 2009 and were sentenced to death by judge Moghiseh of Branch no. 28 of the Revolutionary Court, in March of 2015. The sentences were not approved by Judge Razini in the Supreme Court; however, after eight years of imprisonment, they remain in a state of uncertainty. Increasing Pressure on Sunni Prisoners in Rajai Shahr Prison

HRANA News Agency – A large group of Sunni prisoners who have been arrested and sentenced to imprisonment for religious beliefs and activities, are held at Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj. Recently, some of non-Iranian prisoners who have been accused of joining the ISIL were transferred to this prison and were added to the Sunni prisoners. The tension between these prisoners has led to increased pressure on both groups due to fundamental differences in their belief. It is speculated that prison authorities use the opposition of two groups to increase pressures on both of them.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), approximately 50 Sunni prisoners who had been convicted for non-violent activities, are being held at hall 21 in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj. Growing Pressure on Sunni Prisoners in Dizel Abad Prison of Kermanshah

HRANA News Agency – Six Sunni prisoners in Dizel Abad prison of Kermanshah, who had been on hunger strike some time ago, to protest against their exile to the infected prisoners ward, were again threatened by prison officials with repeating the former procedure. These prisoners say practicing their religion has caused the authorities to react and increase pressure.

Reza Akwaniyan Sentenced to Imprisonment and Lashes

HRANA News Agency – Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran sentenced Reza Akwaniyan, poet and civil activist, to 3 years of imprisonment and 40 lashes for insulting the sacred by compiling poetry and propaganda against the regime. Mr. Akwanian had already been sentenced to 5 years suspended imprisonment and spent one year in jail.

Afshin Hayratian Arrested and Transferred to Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Afshin Hayratian, children’s rights activist and former prisoner of conscience, was arrested on October 20, 2017 by security forces at his own house in Tehran. The Baha’i citizen has been transferred to Evin Prison after being arrested.

Mohammad Mehdi Nekounam Arrested in Qom

HRANA News Agency – Security forces went to house of Mohammad Mehdi Nekounam, son of Ayatullah Nekounam, critical cleric, and inspected the house and arrested him on October 27, 2017.

Vahid Pour Tahmaseb Sentenced to 11 Years of Imprisonment

HRANA News Agency – Vahid Pour Tahmaseb, follower of Mohammad Ali Taheri, has been sentenced to 11 years imprisonment, according to the verdict given to him in the Revolutionary Court of Babol on October 4, 2017.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Vahid Pour Tahmaseb was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on charges of “membership in the group and the population with the aim of disrupting the security of the country” and 1 year imprisonment on charge of “advertising activity in favor of opposition groups” according to the verdict which was notified to on October 4, 2017.
