Political Prisoners in Evin Prison Beaten by Other Prisoners

HRANA News Agency – Kayvan Karimi, famous filmmaker who is imprisoned in ward number 8 of Evin prison, was beaten by some other prisoners with general charges, without any reason or history. During this incident his right leg that had gone under surgery operation for tumor, was injured. Prison officials did not allow him to be transferred to a hospital, due to his refusal from wearing “dirty prison uniform”. During past days, at least two other political prisoners, including Mehdi Rajabian, imprisoned musician in ward number 7 and also Vahid Nasiri, political prisoner of ward number 4, were beaten and injured in similar incidents.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Kayvan Karimi, famous filmmaker who is imprisoned in ward number 8, was beaten after few inmates went to his cell and beat him without any reason, on February 25. A Report about Asghar Ghattan’s Critical Health Condition in Custody

HRANA News Agency – Asghar Ghattan has frequently been arrested and imprisoned since 1960s, when he was just 14 years old, because of his political activities. This political prisoner is currently being held in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, despite suffering from various diseases. Mr. Ghattan has had “19 diseases and surgeries and takes 38 prescribed pills every day.”
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Asghar Ghattan, born in 1954, was arrested last time by the Ministry of Intelligence agents in 2010, and after 45 days interrogation in ward 209, due to his illness and on doctors’ advice he was released on the bail. A Political Prisoner Sentenced to Additional 5 Years

HRANA News Agency – Hossein Danesh Payeh, political prisoner in Urmia Central Prison, was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court in this city. The judge has added his “one year of probation” period, despite its execution period was expired, in his new sentence.

Arash Sadeghi in Critical Health Condition in Evin Prison

HRANA New Agency – Arash Sadeghi, imprisoned civil activist in ward 350 of Evin prison, has advanced stomach bleeding, so that he is “no longer able to eat solid food”. This prisoner, who is suffering from aspiratory chronic inflammation disease (asthma), stomach bleeding and intestinal colitis, caused by long term hunger strike, is still in prison and being deprived of treatment, due to opposing by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
On the other hand, since several weeks ago, Mr. Sadeghi and his wife, who is in the women’s ward of this prison, have been deprived of meeting each other. Rajai Shahr Prison Authorities Put All Dangerous Prisoners in One Ward

HRANA News Agency – Rajai Shahr prison authorities have put specific prisoners by a deliberate arrangement together in a Hall as a deadly penal colony. At least six prisoners within 10 days have attempted suicide or self-mutilation after being transferred to this hall.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Hall 11 of ward 4 in Rajai Shahr prison, has been change to a deadly place for the prisoners of this prison, based on a plan designed directly by Mr. Yousef Mardi (Head of prison security) and Mohammad Mardani (Rajai Shahr prison’s chief) to choose and put specific prisoners who have problem with each other in this ward. A Prisoner Chained to the Flagpole in the Yard of Ardebil Prison

HRANA News Agency – A newly arrived prisoner was chained to a flagpole in the yard of Ardebil prison since February 8, 2017 for 2 days. The prison authorities have tortured him in the cold weather for at least 48 hours on suspicion that the detainee had carried drugs in his abdomen. Ardebil prison officials had done such tortures previously.

3 Prisoners Ended Their Hunger Strikes in Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Hadi Asgari and Amin Afshar Naderi, two Christians and Omid Shahmoradi Sanandaji, security prisoner, ended their hunger strikes with the authorities’ favourable promises.
According to the report of Human Rights Atavists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), following the attendance of Mr. Bakhtiari, chief of the Attorney General, and Mr. Khairuddin, Deputy Attorney General, at Hall 12 of Evin prison, on February 14, 2017, and promising to solve the issues with the prisoners’ cases and advising them to end their hunger strike also warning signs of Omid Shahmoradi’d illness, this prisoner ended his hunger and medication strike, after 10 days. Omid Shahmoradi on Hunger Strike in Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – In February, the head of the clinic of Evin prison announced that the health condition of Omid Shahmoradi Sanandaj, security prisoner who was on hunger strike was inappropriate and the continuation of the strike was “a serious risk” for him. Meanwhile, in a meeting with Mr. Shahmoradi, prison officials called him to end the strike and give the opportunity to follow up on his demands, but the prisoner stressed that he would continue his strike until achieving his demands due to bad history of authorities
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Omid Shahmoradi Sanandaj, security prisoner in Evin prison, has written an open letter to the prosecutor overseeing the prison, and emphasized on “the failures by the executive and judicial bodies in his case” which had occurred despite “repeated legal follows”, his letters had never been addressed by authorities. He also referred to the “injustice” on his family, including “defamation of his wife in the meeting room” and lack of response to his complaint and declared a hunger strike.
