Shahram Chiniyan Miandavab beaten in prison, again

HRANA News Agency – On September 20, Shahram Chiniyan Miandavab, a Bahai shopkeeper from Tehran who is serving an 8-year sentence, was beaten as he was being taken to a judge because he refuses to wear the standard prison uniform.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), prisoners of conscience in Iran generally do not wear the prison uniform. Mr. Chiniyan is held in block 1 of Rajai Shahr prison, which is reserved for dangerous prisoners.

One of the other prisoners told HRANA that he was summoned to a judge outside the prison, in relation to one of the cases against him that has not been concluded. At the prison gates, the prison guards demanded that he put on prison uniform, which he refused. The guards beat him and stripped him. He was bruised in many places, and was later treated at the prison clinic because of the severity of his injuries. He was also beaten on August 19, by Mr. Amirian, one of the Deputy Directors at the prison, and a number of prison guards, and his clothes were torn.

Mr. Chiniyan was first arrested in March 2009 and released on March 3, 2010, after using his business license as bail. He was sentenced to 70 lashes and 8 years in prison on a charge of insulting Islam, and began serving his sentence, first in Evin prison in Tehran and then in Raja’i Shahr prison, early in March, 2012. On May 28, 2014, he was transferred to section 1 of Raja’i Shahr, where dangerous criminals are kept.

He was punished with one week in solitary from June 25 to July 1, and four days in solitary on August 20, following his first beating by prison guards.

Sunni prisoner awaiting execution transferred to hospital

HRANA News Agency – Barzan Nasrollah Zadeh, a Sunni prisoner of conscience awaiting execution in Iran’s Rajai Shahr prison, was transferred to hospital yesterday following a deterioration in his condition.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), despite doctors saying that Barzan was in urgent need of surgery, he was transferred for an unknown reason back to Rajai Shahr prison within a few hours, without receiving medical treatment. The sentence of Adnan Rahmat Panah was confirmed in court of appeal

HRANA News Agency – The one year in prison sentence of Adnan Rahmat Panah, the Bahai citizen has been confirmed in appeal court.

A Yarsani citizen was interrogated by Police Forces

Bahai home raided in Shiraz

HRANA News Agency – On September 9, agents from the Ministry of Intelligence broke into the home of Wahideh Dana in Shiraz, searched it for about an hour, and confiscated religious books, images and CDs.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Ms. Dana refused to open the door, but after the agents had forced their way in, they showed a search warrant.

Saqi Feda’i rearrested in Mashhad

Shadan Shirazi, with top university entry grades, denied admission

HRANA News Agency – Shadan Shirazi, a math student with top tier ranks in her entrance exams was denied admission to university because of her religious beliefs in Baha’i faith.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), a decision of Iran’s Supreme Council of Culture and Revolution effectively calls for the exclusion of members of Baha’i faith from employment and opportunities for higher education. Imprisoned Sunni scholar prevented from calling family in past weeks

HRANA News Agency – Shaykh Mohammad Fathi Naghshbandi, a Sunni scholar imprisoned in Iran, has been forbidden from calling his family for the past two weeks.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Shaykh Naghshbandi, currently imprisoned in the Quarantine Section 12 of Zahedan Central prison, has been unable to speak to any of his family members for the past two weeks, after officials refused to give him permission to make telephone calls. Christian prisoners charged with offences which can lead to death

HRANA News Agency – At least two newly converted Christian prisoners were accused with “Enmity against God and state” and “spreading corruption on Earth” which can result in death penalty if it is proved in the court. Also, another person was charged with “Propaganda against State”.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), during the last week, “Reza Rabani” and “Abdolreza Ali Haghnejad” – two newly converted Christian prisoners- were charged with “Enmity against God and State” and “spreading corruption on Earth” at Karaj Islamic Revolutionary Court. In addition, another converted Christian prisoner, “Behnam Irani”, was also charged with “Propaganda against State”.
