Mohammad Tavili Toroghi Arrested in Mashhad

HRANA, Human Rights Activists News Agency-On May 31, 2023, Mohammad Tavili Toroghi, age 35, was subjected to an arbitrary arrest in Mashhad by security forces. He was subsequently transferred to a detention facility.

According to a reliable source who spoke to HRANA, IRGC Intelligence apprehended him on a street in Mashhad. The source stated that Tavili is a family member of an Iran-Iraq war martyr.

Presently, the motive behind this arrest and the specific allegations against him remain undisclosed.

 

Two Women Detained by IRGC Intelligence in Mashhad

HHRANA, Human Rights Activists News Agency – In Mashhad, Ghazaleh Baghernia and Taktam Nowruzi were apprehended by security forces and subsequently transferred to a detention facility in this city.

According to a reliable source who spoke to HRANA, Baghernia was taken into custody on May 24, while Nowruzi was arrested on May 29. The arrests took place on a street in Mashhad by agents of the IRGC Intelligence. Baghernia was allowed to make a phone call to her family, revealing that she is currently being held in solitary confinement at the detention facility.

The reasons behind their detention and the specific charges against them remain undisclosed at this time.

Hamideh Zeraei Re-Arrested by Security Forces

HRANA, Human Rights Activists News Agency- On May 29, 2023, Hamideh Zeraei was once again apprehended by security forces at her residence in Karaj and transported to an undisclosed location. Zeraei had previously been arrested during the 2022 nationwide protests.

An informed source, speaking to HRANA, revealed that Zeraei had gone to reclaim her seized vehicle, which had been confiscated by IRGC intelligence during her prior arrest. In a call to her family, she expressed concerns about the possibility of being re-arrested by the IRGC intelligence unit.

The grounds for her arrest, her current location, and the specific charges against her remain unknown. Notably, on May 3, 2023, Zeraei had received a summons to appear at the Karaj courthouse on charges related to “propaganda for anti-regime groups.”

Zeraie, who was previously detained amidst the 2022 nationwide protests, had been released on February 7, 2024. It was widely assumed that she, along with numerous other imprisoned protestors, had been granted amnesty under the “pardon and commutation” directive. However, the recent summons she received indicates a different course of events, contradicting initial assumptions.

Two Workers Detained by IRGC Intelligence for Alleged Role in Strikes

Two workers employed in the South Pars Gas-Condensate field have been detained by IRGC Intelligence for involvement in organizing worker strikes.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, citing Raja News, the arrests took place in Bushehr Province.

The identities of the workers have not been revealed, but a local official stated that they were allegedly leading strikes among workers at the South Pars Gas-Condensate field. Additionally, it is reported that they were non-native and engaged also in online activities related to these strikes.

Political Prisoner Nayeb Askari Sentenced to Death for Enmity Against God

The Branch 2 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court sentenced Nayeb Askari to death for “enmity against God (Moharebeh).”

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on April 15, 2023, Urmia judicial officials informed Nayeb Askari’s lawyer that his client had received a death sentence for the charge of “enmity against God (Moharebeh).”

Membership in a Kurdish opposition party was cited as an example of this charge.

On March 27, 2021, IRGC intelligence agents arrested Askari in Urmia and transferred him to a detention facility. On June 17, 2021, he was transferred to Urmia Prison, where he has been detained since.

According to sources close to his family, Askari has reportedly been in poor health during his detention. In February or January 2022, he suffered from a convulsion but was denied proper medical care. The prison infirmary was reportedly ill-equipped and in such cases suffices to the arbitrary prescription of a non-specific pill.

On July 12, 2021, a new case was opened against him following the complaint of the head of Urmia Prison. For this case, he was sentenced to three months more imprisonment and 50 lashes for the charge of “disrupting prison order”.

Iran Protests: Seven People Arrested in Kerman

The public relations office of Kerman IRGC announced the arrest of seven allegedly “protest leaders,” of which several are dual-national.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, IRGC intelligence arrested seven people in Kerman and accused them of “leading protests.”

This IRGC official claimed that these individuals are members of an organization called Zagros, led by some from England.

This report did not disclose the detainee’s identities and the location they have been held.

 

Iran Protests: Farzad Taghavi Sentenced to Three Years Imprisonment

Recently, the East Azerbaijan Court of Appeal upheld Farad Taghavi’s sentence. He was initially sentenced to three years in prison and banned from leaving the country for two years.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Farzad Taghavi, age 31, a resident of Tabriz, was sentenced to three years in prison and banned from leaving the country for two years on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security and disturbing public order.”

Taghavi was violently arrested on September 27, 2022, by IRGC intelligence at protests in Tabriz. He was released on bail after 11 days of detention in one of IRGC’s detention facilities.

Saha Mortezai Imprisoned for Sentencing

Saha Mortezai, the former head of the Student Union of the University of Tehran, was taken to Evin Prison to serve her sentence. Earlier, on November 21, 2022, security forces arrested her violently at her workplace.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, former student union activist Saha Mortezai was taken to Evin Prison to serve her six-year sentence.

On November 17, 2019, IRGC Intelligence arrested her at a student dormitory in Tehran and took her to Ward 2-A of Evin Prison. After a while, she went on a hunger strike in jail in protest against an excessive bail she could not afford. She ended her hunger strike after 22 days. On January 22, 2020, she was released on bail.

In November 2020, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Mortezai to six years. This verdict was upheld on appeal. According to Iran’s Student Union, three years and eight months for one charge are enforceable to her.

 

Majid Khademi Arrested upon Appearing at Court

On Wednesday, Jun 22, 2022, Majid Khademi was arrested after an appearance at Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Bandar Mahshahr. He and the other defendant in this case, Mehran Ghareh-Baghi, had attended the court.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, Majid Khademi was arrested in Bandar Mahshahr, Khuzestan Province.

On January 18, 2020, IRGC Intelligence arrested Khademi and transferred him to a detention facility in Behbahan City. After one month of interrogation, he was relocated to Behbahan Prison.

Khademi  was later charged with “propaganda against the regime, participating in the destruction of public property, producing non-military explosive materials and Membership in one of the anti-regime parties and spreading corruption on earth.” Later, he was released on bail of 2.5 billion tomans.

Majid Khademi is 30 years old and a resident of the village Tilehkoohi of Behbahan County, Khuzestan Province.

 IRGC Intelligence Arrested Three Telegram Channel Admins

In recent days, the IRGC Intelligence arrested three individuals for “disturbing public opinion through publishing classified documents”.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Radio Farda and Rokna, three Telegram channel admins were arrested by IRGC Intelligence allegedly for “publishing classified documents.”

In this report, one IRGC official claimed, “They attempted to gain the audience’s trust by publishing classified documents and by creating division between officials through fake and selective news items.”

This official did not disclose the individuals’ identities and their whereabouts. The individuals arrested are said in social media outlets to be connected to the IRGC Intelligence.
