Nationwide Protests: Three Students at the Islamic Azad University of Shiraz Arrested

On October 31, related to nationwide protests, security forces arrested Mohammad Safari, Mehdi Fereydooni and Alireza Noigooie, three students at the Islamic Azad University of Shiraz, and took them to an unidentified location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, students Mohammad Safari, Mehdi Fereydooni and Alireaz Noigooie were arrested in Shiraz.

According to an informed source, plainclothes agents haunt students on campus and check their id cards.” When they left the campus, Mohammad Safari and Mehdi Fereydooni were arrested before the university door.”

 

 

Film Director Hamaseh Parsa Arrested

Security forces arrested film director Hamaseh Parsa for publishing posts on the Internet to support nationwide protests.

An informed source told HRANA, during the protests, Parsa was injured by air-gun pellets and informed the public about that. Once he was arrested, his page on social media was deactivated by security forces. His whereabouts are still unknown.

Parsa is a screenwriter and director for cinema and television. His most acclaimed work is “there will be blood on Wednesday (2015).”

 

Islamic Scholar Hosseini-Tabatabai and His Seven Followers Sentenced to a Total of 28 Years Imprisonment

On October 24, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Islamic Scholars Seyyed-Mostafa Hosseini Tabatabai and his seven followers to a total of 28 years and additional punishments. These followers include Abdolhamid Asoodeh Khaljani, Majid Naseri, Mohsen Rezvan Khaledi, Koroush Moazeni, Alireza Bahadori-Nejad, Reza Rahnama and Mohammad-Hossein Ebnorreza.

On prior occasions, Hosseini-Tabatabai, age 87, has been targeted and harassed by security forces for his Quranic interpretation differing from the Shia clergy’s.

In March 2021, IRGC intelligence arrested Hosseini-Tabatabai and his followers and jailed them for two months in solitary confinement. Then, they were released on a one-billion tomans bail. His Qur’an teaching sessions were also closed by IRGC intelligence.

In June of 2022, following a religious debate with another cleric, he was summoned and interrogated 21 times in two months.

Ultimately, on October 24, 2022, branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Hosseini-Tabatabai to eight years. Khaljani and Naseri were sentenced to five years and each of the five others to two years suspended term for five years. They all have been banned from membership in political and civil groups and leaving the country for two years.
 
Their lawyer, Mohammad Hossein Aghasi, told HRANA that the defendants have been charged with “forming groups to act against national security.”

Moreover, five other individuals close to Hosseini-Tabatabai have also been indicted.

 

Professor Dariush Farhud Arrested

On October 30, security forces arrested Dariush Farhud, professor of medical and clinical genetics, dubbed as “the Father of Genetics in Iran,” and transferred him to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on October 30, Prof. Dariush Farhud was arrested.
 
His page admin on social media broke the news and wrote: “Prof. Dariush Farhud, ‘the Father of Genetics in Iran’, was arrested in front of his house by plainclothes agents.”
 
The reason for Farhud’s arrest and his whereabouts are still unknown.

 

 

 

 

Arte’s Reporter Vahid Shamseddin-Nejad Arrested in Tehran

German-French cultural TV channel Atre announced that its Iranian reporter Vahid Shamseddin-Nejad was arrested by security forces in Saqqez on October 26.

According to this TV channel, Shamseddin-Nejad is detained in Tehran and under interrogation. Arte expressed concerns about Shamseddin-Nejad’s condition and asked for his release.
 
The reason for his arrest and whereabouts are still unknown.

Rapper Toomaj Salehi Arrested

On October 30, 2022, Rapper Toomaj Salehi was arrested by security forces.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rokna, famous protest rapper Toomaj Salehi was arrested.

Rokna claimed, “Salehi was inciting people and published fake news in recent weeks.”

Salehi has faced other arrests and convictions on a prior occasion. On September 12, 2021, Salehi was arrested by security forces at his home and nine days later, released on bond from Dastgerd Prison.

On January 12, 2022, he was sentenced to six months in prison and a fine. The imprisonment was suspended for one year. In the trial, he was exonerated from the charge of “provoking violence and insurrection”.

 

At Least 30 Individuals Arrested at Protests in Behbahan

On October 26, security forces arrested at least 30 individuals in Behbahan at the protests. At least five of them are under the age of 18.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, at least 30 people, including five minors, were arrested by security forces in Behbahan, Khuzestan Province.

HRANA has identified some of them as Kian Salehi (a school student), Danial Bagherpour, Reza Fardad, Hesam Bahmani Nejad, Maziar Nourinejad, Maryam Kazemi, Maryam Payab, Mardani (female, first names unidentified) and Abbasi (female, first names unidentified).
 
The reason for these arrests and the charges are still unknown.

 

 

Rapper Emad Ghavidel Arrested

On October 26, security forces arrested social rap singer Emad Ghavidel in Rasht, Gilan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on October 26, rapper Emad Ghavidel was arrested at his workplace in Rasht.

The reason for his arrest and whereabouts are still unknown.

Women’s Rights Activist Raoofeh Mirbagheri Arrested

On October 26, 2022, IRGC intelligence agents arrested women’s rights activist Raoofeh Mirbagheri in Tonekabon and transferred her to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on October 26, 2022, women’s rights activist Raoofeh Mirbagheri was arrested in Tonekabon, Mazandaran Province.

The reason for this arrest and her whereabouts are unknown as of yet.

Nationwide Protests: 209 People Indicted in Semnan, West Azerbaijan and Kerman Provinces

The Chief Justice of Semnan, West Azerbaijan and Kerman Provinces announced that 89, 95 and 25 protestors were indicted, respectively.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Aftab News, the Chief Justice of Semnan stated that 89 people arrested during the nationwide protests were indicted.

Also, the Chief Justice of West Azerbaijan Province stated that 95 individuals were indicted, and the rest is under review.
 
Moreover, IRNA, quoting the Chief Justice of Kerman, reported the indictment of 25 individuals as ” protest leaders” in Kerman Province.
