Two Inmates Executed in Qazvin and Miandoab Prisons

On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, an inmate convicted of murder was executed in Qazvin Central Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Iran Human Rights Organization, on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, an inmate identified as Yusef Hashemi, resident of Hamedan, was executed in Qazvin Central Prison.

Reportedly, earlier he was taken to be executed but at the last moment, he got a moratorium from the victim’s family.

Iran Human Rights Organization also reported the execution of an inmate identified as Ali Mirzai in Miandoab prison. He had been previously convicted of murder.

None of these executions have been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

The most recent report from the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between January 1 of 2021 and December 20 of 2021, at least 299 citizens, including four juvenile offenders, were executed. In addition, 85 citizens were sentenced to death in this period.

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 88% of executions. These unreported executions are known as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

Jailed Turkish National Hatem Ozdemir Sentenced to Death in Urmia Prison

The Revolutionary Court of Khoy city in Azerbaijan province sentenced Turkish national Hatem Ozdemir to death.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, jailed Turkish citizen Hatem Ozdemir was sentenced to the death penalty in Urmia prison.

On March 15, 2022, Branch 1 of The Revolutionary Court of Khoy notified Mr Ozdemir that he had been sentenced to death on the charge of “Baghi”, which is an armed rebellion against the state.”

In the early summer of 2019, the security forces arrested Hatem Ozdemir in Maku city and transferred him to Urmia Prison after two months of interrogation at a detention centre. On September 19, 2019, they relocated him again to a detention centre for a while.

As reported earlier by HRANA, in September of last year, 43 political prisoners refused to receive food rations to protest the lack of medical care for 11 prisoners including Hatem Ozdemir.

In mid-January of this year, he and seven other prisoners were sent to solitary confinement. Subsequently, the prison’s special guards relocated them to a newly-built high-security ward.  

Two Inmates Executed, Three Spared from Execution

On Tuesday, March 15, two inmates who were convicted for drug-related crimes were executed in Urmia Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on Tuesday morning, March 15, 2022, two inmates identified as Peyman Babakhani and Mirali Hosseini were executed in Urmia Prison.

These executions have not been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

Mizan Online News Agency reported that the Chief Justice of West Azerbaijan Province had announced that recently, three inmates of Urmia prison were spared from execution through receiving consent from the victims’ families. Kurdpa News Agency identified them as Jafar Esmaili, Saeed Armet and Osman Sahrai.

Eight Inmates Executed in Adel-Abad, Rajai-Shahr and Dastgerd Prisons  

Last Sunday and Wednesday, eight inmates were executed in Adel-Abad, Rajai-Shahr and Dastgerd prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Human Rights Organization, last Sunday, four inmates who had been previously convicted for drug-related crimes were executed in Adel-Abad prison in Shiraz.

Two of the executed inmates have been identified as Jamshid Fadai and Hossein Mehrabani, age 37.

Iran Human Rights Organization also reported the execution of an inmate of Afghan origins, identified with the first name of Zobeyd, in Dastgerd prison of Isfahan on Wednesday, March 16.

On the same day, three inmates were executed in Rajai-Shahr prison in Karaj. These inmates were identified as Gholamali Khargir, Abbas Khargir and Mohsen Jondaghi and had been convicted of murder during an armed robbery twenty years ago. 

None of these executions were reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

Inmate Executed in Urmia Prison for Drug-Related Crimes

On Monday, March 14, 2022, an inmate who had been previously convicted for drug-related crimes was executed in Urmia prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, On Monday, March 14, 2022, an inmate identified as Ebrahim Nasirkhah, who is approximately 45 years old, was executed in Urmia Prison. One day before the execution, he was sent to solitary confinement.

According to an informed source, this inmate had been jailed for three years. He was taken to be executed twice, but each time the execution was halted for unknown reasons.

This execution has not been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran at the time of writing.

Political Prisoner Firooz Musaloo Sentenced to Death

Recently, Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia sentenced the political Prisoner Firooz Musaloo to death.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, the political prisoner, Firooz Musaloo, the resident of Khoy city has been sentenced to death.

According to the verdict issued recently, he has been found guilty of “enmity against God (Moharebeh) and membership in one of the anti-regime political parties.”

On July 11, 2019, Firooz Musaloo was arrested by IRGC’s Intelligence agents and transferred to a detention center in Urmia. On January 1, 2020, he was sent to Urmia Prison.

On June 20, 2020, he was again sent to the detention center for interrogation and on June 27 of that year was sent back to Urmia Prison.

Inmate Executed in Khash Prison

On Saturday morning, March 12, 2022, an inmate who had been previously convicted for murder was executed in Khash prison located in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rasank News, on Saturday, March 12, 2022, the execution of an inmate identified as Alam Yarahmadzehi, age 48, was carried out in Khash prison.

Yarahmadzehi was accused and convicted of murder during 2010. He was relocated to the quarantine section of the prison the day before as a routine procedure while awaiting execution.

This execution has not been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

Two Inmates Executed in Dastgerd and Zanjan Prisons

On the morning of March 2, an inmate convicted for drug-related crimes was executed in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan City. On February 28, an inmate convicted for murder was executed after carrying out flogging in Zanjan Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Iran Human Rights Organization, the inmate executed in Dastgerd was identified as Akbar Shahsavand, age 36. He was convicted for drug-related crimes four years ago.

The inmate executed in Zanjan Prison was identified as Morad Saleh-Beyg, about 45 years old. He was executed after flogging. Five years ago, he was sentenced to death and 74 lashes for committing murder.

These executions have not been announced by judicial authorities or reported by media inside Iran.

Inmate Convicted for Killing a Police Agent Executed in Dezful Prison

On March 3, an inmate convicted for killing a police agent was executed in Dezful Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Tasnim News Agency, the inmate was identified as Abbas Naderi.

The Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Shush City announced the execution. According to him, Naderi’s conviction was upheld by the Supreme Court of Iran.

Eight Inmates Executed in Various Prisons

On February 27, two inmates convicted for drug-related crimes and murder were executed in Jiroft and Khorramabad prisons, respectively. Wednesday, an inmate convicted for murder was executed in Ilam Central Prison and five inmates convicted for murder were executed in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj City.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, last Wednesday and Sunday, eight inmates were executed in various prisons.

Kurdpa reported that an inmate identified as Farshad Farzi, age 30, who was convicted for murder eight years ago was executed in Ilam Central Prison.

Iran Human Rights Organization reported that on Wednesday, in Rajai Shahr prison, prison officials carried out the execution of five inmates. Two of these inmates have been identified as Hamed Azizi and Mehran Jafari.

According to an informed source, “Hamed Azizi had killed someone in a fight over a woman. Mehran Jafari had killed his brother-in-law. Despite [Jafari] being a father of two children, the victim’s family insisted on his execution”.

This organization also reported that an inmate identified as Ali Heydar Dehghani, age 40, was executed in Korramabad Prison.

In a report by the Baloch Activists Campaign, on February 27, an inmate identified as Jasem Ghanbari was executed in Jiroft Prison. Three years ago, he was arrested for a drug-related crime and since then had been jailed. He is married and the father of two children.
