Political Prisoner Firooz Musaloo Sentenced to Death

Recently, Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia sentenced the political Prisoner Firooz Musaloo to death.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, the political prisoner, Firooz Musaloo, the resident of Khoy city has been sentenced to death.

According to the verdict issued recently, he has been found guilty of “enmity against God (Moharebeh) and membership in one of the anti-regime political parties.”

On July 11, 2019, Firooz Musaloo was arrested by IRGC’s Intelligence agents and transferred to a detention center in Urmia. On January 1, 2020, he was sent to Urmia Prison.

On June 20, 2020, he was again sent to the detention center for interrogation and on June 27 of that year was sent back to Urmia Prison.

Inmate Executed in Khash Prison

On Saturday morning, March 12, 2022, an inmate who had been previously convicted for murder was executed in Khash prison located in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rasank News, on Saturday, March 12, 2022, the execution of an inmate identified as Alam Yarahmadzehi, age 48, was carried out in Khash prison.

Yarahmadzehi was accused and convicted of murder during 2010. He was relocated to the quarantine section of the prison the day before as a routine procedure while awaiting execution.

This execution has not been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

Two Inmates Executed in Dastgerd and Zanjan Prisons

On the morning of March 2, an inmate convicted for drug-related crimes was executed in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan City. On February 28, an inmate convicted for murder was executed after carrying out flogging in Zanjan Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Iran Human Rights Organization, the inmate executed in Dastgerd was identified as Akbar Shahsavand, age 36. He was convicted for drug-related crimes four years ago.

The inmate executed in Zanjan Prison was identified as Morad Saleh-Beyg, about 45 years old. He was executed after flogging. Five years ago, he was sentenced to death and 74 lashes for committing murder.

These executions have not been announced by judicial authorities or reported by media inside Iran.

Inmate Convicted for Killing a Police Agent Executed in Dezful Prison

On March 3, an inmate convicted for killing a police agent was executed in Dezful Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Tasnim News Agency, the inmate was identified as Abbas Naderi.

The Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Shush City announced the execution. According to him, Naderi’s conviction was upheld by the Supreme Court of Iran.

Eight Inmates Executed in Various Prisons

On February 27, two inmates convicted for drug-related crimes and murder were executed in Jiroft and Khorramabad prisons, respectively. Wednesday, an inmate convicted for murder was executed in Ilam Central Prison and five inmates convicted for murder were executed in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj City.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, last Wednesday and Sunday, eight inmates were executed in various prisons.

Kurdpa reported that an inmate identified as Farshad Farzi, age 30, who was convicted for murder eight years ago was executed in Ilam Central Prison.

Iran Human Rights Organization reported that on Wednesday, in Rajai Shahr prison, prison officials carried out the execution of five inmates. Two of these inmates have been identified as Hamed Azizi and Mehran Jafari.

According to an informed source, “Hamed Azizi had killed someone in a fight over a woman. Mehran Jafari had killed his brother-in-law. Despite [Jafari] being a father of two children, the victim’s family insisted on his execution”.

This organization also reported that an inmate identified as Ali Heydar Dehghani, age 40, was executed in Korramabad Prison.

In a report by the Baloch Activists Campaign, on February 27, an inmate identified as Jasem Ghanbari was executed in Jiroft Prison. Three years ago, he was arrested for a drug-related crime and since then had been jailed. He is married and the father of two children.

Two Inmates Executed in Kashan and Vakilabad Prisons

On the morning of February 21, two inmates convicted for murder were executed in Kashan and Vakilabad prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ILNA, an unidentified inmate was executed in Kashan Prison. On the same day, another inmate identified by the first name Reza was executed in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad city.

Regarding the first case, Kashan prosecutor Ruhollah Dehghani stated that “in June 2017, the defendant, age 49, killed a woman with whom he was acquainted on the Internet. Thereafter, he was arrested by the police”.

As for the second case, on September 30, 2014, Reza brought a 29 year old man injured by stabbing to a hospital in Mashhad. When he realized the man had passed away from the injuries, he fled the hospital. In November of 2018, Reza was arrested and sentenced to death.

According to an informed source, he was imprisoned in Khomeini-Shahr Prison, but 15 days ago was transferred to Dastger Prison, where he was executed.

On February 13, two inmates convicted for murder were executed in Adel-Abad Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on Sunday, February 13, 2022, two inmates on death row in Adel-Abad Prison were executed.

In two separate cases, they were convicted for murder. Iran Human Rights has identified one of them as Mokhtar Valizadeh. HRANA is inquiring to identify the other executed inmate, who was arrested and sentenced to death three years ago.

Juvenile Offender’s Death Sentence Revoked After 18 Years In Prison

The Supreme Court of Iran revoked the death sentence against Mohammad-Reza Haddadi who committed murder when he was 15 years old. The verdict was reduced, requiring Haddadi to pay Diyah (blood-money). Haddadi spent 18 years in prison and was sent to the gallows several times, but the executions were halted at the last moment.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Deutsche Welle Persian, the Supreme Court’s verdict statement clarifies that due to the passage of time, forensic medicine is not able to assess if the defendant was rational and mature at the time of the crime. Secondly, other defendants’ statements about the victim’s suffocation Haddadi are not conclusive enough to determine intention.

Moreover, the Supreme Court states that two other defendants have refuted their earlier statements and the Judges also doubted the intentionality of the homicide. Therefore, the verdict was reduced to paying a full Diyah (blood money).

In March of 2021, Haddadi wrote a letter to the then Head of the Judiciary, Ebrahim Raisi, and asked that his case be reviewed.

During the initial investigation and the first court session held on October 30, 2003, he confessed to the robbery and murder. However, eight days later, in a letter to the court, he claimed his confession was made due to the request of one of the other defendants, who asked him to confess to the killing in exchange for money. He had accepted the request based on the assumption that he is a minor and hence will not receive the death penalty.

Haddadi has been imprisoned for 18 years and suffers from severe renal failure and ulcers.

Inmate Executed in Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah City

On Sunday, an inmate convicted for murder was executed in Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah City.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, the inmate was identified as Mosayeb Faraji, a resident of Islamabad.

Reportedly, two years ago, he was arrested and charged with committing murder and subsequently was sentenced to death by judicial authorities.

The execution has not been announced by judicial authorities or reported by media inside Iran.
