The Revolutionary and Criminal Courts of Qazvin sentenced Ali Bahrampour, a resident of Tehran, to eight years and four months in prison. The court also banned him from leaving the country for two years and ordered the seizure of his cell phone.
According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, writer and translator Ali Bahrampour was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison and additional punishments.
Bahrampour received five years for “inciting people to commit murder and wage war against national security,” two years for “insulting the Supreme Leader of Iran,” and one year for “propaganda against the regime.” For the second part of his legal case, the Criminal Court sentenced him to four months for “spreading falsehood.”
If the verdict is upheld on appeal, based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, five years in prison for the first count, as the severest punishment, will be enforceable.
On November 3, 2022, Bahrampour was arrested amid nationwide protests. He was released on bail after 78 days of detention.
Since the beginning of nationwide protests, over 19620 people, including journalists, artists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. So far, over protests, at least 775 people have been sentenced to a total of about 13969 months imprisonment.
