Death Sentence on Alternative Health Practitioner Highlights Alarming Use of Capital Punishment in Iran

HRANA News Agency – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein today expressed alarm at the imposition of the death penalty on Mohammad Ali Taheri, the founder of a spiritual movement, writer and practitioner of alternative medicine theories used in Iran and abroad. Taheri was sentenced to death on Saturday by the Revolutionary Court on a charge of Fesad fel Arz (corruption on earth).

“Iran’s use of the death penalty has long been problematic, with many executions on drug offences, several executions of people who were below the age of 18 when the crime was committed, as well as other cases where broad, ill-defined charges led to the imposition of capital punishment,” Zeid said. 3 Prisoners Executed in Rafsanjan

HRANA News Agency – Three prisoners who had been sentenced to death were hanged in Rafsanjan prison.

Nasser Piri Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison

HRANA News Agency – Nasser Piri, Sunni religion student has been sentenced to five years imprisonment and was transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison.

Mohammad Amin Abdullahi on Hunger Strike in Tabas Prison

HRANA News Agency – Mohammad Amin Abdullahi, political prisoner in Tabas prison, who is spending his tenth year of imprisonment, has gone on hunger strike to protest against his case condition and the denial of parole.

HRANA News Agency – After more than fifteen months of detention, Namegh Deldel, a citizen of Boukan is still held in ward 209 of Evin prison.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Namegh Deldel who had been previously imprisoned for 3 years in Rajai Shahr prison, after being released on 18th April 2014 was arrested again in Boukan and later was transferred to ward 209 of Evin Prison. Narges Mohammadi Returned to the Prison without Proper Medical Treatment

HRANA News Agency – Narges Mohammadi, imprisoned human rights activist, who was taken to the hospital following deterioration of physical health condition, was returned to prison without completing treatment and in a semiconscious state.

Prisoners Face Lack of Basic Facilities in Central Prison of Tehran

HRANA News Agency – The operation of the Central Prison of Tehran has started while it is under construction and even drinking water and its installation also has not been completed.

Alireza Ahmadi Transferred to a Hospital in Tehran

HRANA News Agency – Alireza Ahmadi, imprisoned in ward 7 of Evin prison, was transferred to hospital due to deterioration of his physical condition.
