Sunni converts tortured in detention, health deteriorating, Iran

HRANA News Agency – Two men from Iran’s Ahwazi Arab minority who were arrested in Iran earlier this year after converting from Shi’ism to Sunni Islam were reportedly subjected to severe torture whilst held in the Ministry of Intelligence detention center in Ahwaz.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), one of the men, 30-year old Jaber Sakhravi, who is a computer-science graduate, was arrested in Koye Alawi in Ahwaz (Hay al-Thawra district) on 8 April 2014 and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence detention center in Ahwaz. No information about Behnam Irani’s whereabouts

HRANA News Agency – There is no information about Behnam Irani, the new converted to Christianity priest, who has been transferred to an unknown location more than ten days ago.

Three Sunni youth begin prison sentences

HRANA News Agency – Three Sunni men from Iran’s Turkmen minority convicted of charges including ‘insulting the Supreme Leader (Khamenei)’ were detained yesterday to begin serving their 23 month prison sentences.

Activists join families outside prison in protest at executions

HRANA News Agency – The families of four Sunni prisoners on the verge of execution were joined yesterday by a number of Iranian political activists outside Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), political activists Narges Mohammadi, Mohammad Malaki, Fariborz Rais Dana, Alireza Jabbari and Mohammad Nourizad visited the families outside the prison yesterday. Adel Fana’ayan freed unexpectedly

HRANA News Agency – Adel Fana’ayan, a Bahai from Semnan, has been freed on parole.

Families gather outside prison in protest at imminent executions, Iran

HRANA News Agency – The families of four Sunni prisoners in danger of imminent execution in Iran have gathered outside Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj in protest at their death sentences.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the families, despite opposition from Iranian security forces, have refused to leave the prison until the death sentences are revoked, and until the prisoners are returned to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj. Four death row prisoners transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison

HRANA News Agency – The four prisoners, who had been transferred to solitary confinement in Rajai Shahr Prison yesterday in order for their executions to be carried out, were transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison last night.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the families of the men were informed by a prison official that the men were due to be executed at 4 am this morning, but that the execution was not carried out.
