Azerbaijani Turk Activist Mohammad Aini Jailed in Rasht Prison

Detained Azerbaijani Turk activist Mohammad Aini informed his family in a phone call that he had been relocated to Rasht Prison. On January 22, he was summoned via phone by the Ministry of Intelligence and was arrested after an appearance at the Ministry’s office in Rasht City.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Aini has faced other arrests. In October of 2020, amid widespread protests in the Azerbaijani regions in the Western part of the country, he was arrested in Rasht City. After some time, he was released from jail on bail. In February of 2021, he was tried by Branch 12 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht on the charge of “acting against national security” and was finally acquitted.

Azerbaijani Turk Activist Nader Sadeghian Sentenced to Four Months Imprisonment

On October 20, Azerbaijani Turk activist Nader Sadeghian was sentenced to four months in prison by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Tabriz city.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, 100 days of this term has been suspended for four years.

The court, headed by judge Hamlbar, issued the verdict to his lawyer. Mr Sadeghian has been convicted of the charges of “online provoking people to act the violent crimes.”

On Saturday, July 24, a number of Tabriz’s citizens protested in support of Khuzestan protests against water shortages and general mismanagement of the crisis. During this protest, a number of people were arrested.

Nader Sadeghian was arrested on July 25, by intelligence agents and transferred to a security detention center in Tabriz. After 17 days, he informed his family about his relocation to Tabriz Prison. He was released on bail on October 15.

 

Azerbaijani Turk Activist Abbas Nikravan Arrested by Security Forces in Salmas

On Sunday, September 5, Azerbaijani Turk activist Abbas Nikravan was arrested by security forces and taken to an unknown location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Nikravan is a native  of Salmas in West Azerbaijan Province.

Mr. Nikravan has a history of detention. He was arrested in July 2018, during the annual gathering of Babak Castle, and was released on bail a week later.

As of this writing, no information is available on the reasons for his detention, the charges against him, or his whereabouts.

Azerbaijani Turk Activists Mohammad Kazemi and Reza Shahrivar Transferred to Tabriz Prison

Azerbaijani Turk activists Mohammad Kazemi and Reza Shahrivar announced their transfer to Tabriz Prison during a telephone call with their families on Tuesday, August 10th.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Mohammad Kazemi and Reza Shahrivar were arrested on July 27, 2021 by Ministry of Intelligence agents and were transferred to the detention center of this security institution in Tabriz.

These citizens were arrested on July 27, 2021 by Ministry of Intelligence agents and transferred to the detention center of this security institution in Tabriz. They have been living in the quarantine ward of Tabriz Prison since yesterday.

As of this writing, the reasons for the arrests and the charges against these citizens are unknown.
