Women’s Rights Advocate Atefeh Rangriz Arrested

Atefeh Rangriz, a women’s rights activist, was arrested on Saturday, June 29th, after a court session addressing her charges and was transferred to Shahrud Prison.

A source close to the family of this women’s rights activist confirmed the news to HRANA, saying: “Ms. Rangriz was arrested after a court session addressing her charges in Branch 1 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Damghan and was transferred to Shahrud Prison.” She had recently been summoned to the mentioned branch to defend herself against charges of “forming a group aiming to disrupt national security,” “propaganda against the regime,” and “disseminating falsehoods on the Internet to disturb public opinion.”

Rangriz’s initial arrest dates back to September 10, 2023, when she was arrested by security forces in Damghan and transferred to The Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Semnan. After completing the interrogation process, she was moved to Shahrud Prison. She was finally released on bail from Shahrud Prison on October 21, 2023.

Rangriz has previously been arrested and sentenced due to her activities.

Report on the Latest Status of Yavar Fathollahi in Evin Prison

Yavar Fathollahi, a political prisoner and one of those arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022 (also known as the Mahsa Amini protests), is serving his sentence in Evin Prison. Mr. Fathollahi was initially sentenced to seventeen years in prison by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, but his sentence was reduced to 80 months following an appeal.

Based on information received by HRANA, this political prisoner was sentenced on January 23, 2024, by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad-Reza Amuzad, to a total of seventeen years in prison. This included eight years for the charge of “destroying public property,” five years for “assembly and collusion with the intent to disrupt national security,” one year for  “disobeying the orders of officers,” and three years for “acting against national security.” Finally, in March of last year, Mr. Fathollahi’s sentence was reduced to 80 months, equivalent to six years and eight months, following an appeal.

A source close to the family of this political prisoner confirmed this news to HRANA and said: “The court session to address Yavar’s charges was held in December of last year. Ultimately, in early April of this year, the mentioned sentence was communicated to the Evin Prosecutor’s Office’s enforcement unit.”

Fathollahi, born on March 25, 1994, and a resident of Tehran, was arrested by IRGC intelligence forces on September 21, 2022, during the nationwide protests. On September 25 of the same year, he was transferred from the IRGC Intelligence Detention Center (Ward 2-A) to the Greater Tehran Prison. Finally, in late March 2023, he was transferred to Evin Prison.

Political Detainee Ramin Haeri Remains in Detention for Over 120 Days of Uncertainty

Javad (Ramin) Haeri, a political detainee, has remained in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad for nearly four months since his arrest by security forces. He has been co-housed with prisoners of violent crime, which violates prison rules dictating the separation of prisoners based on the nature of their offenses.

According to HRANA, Mr. Haeri continues to be held in uncertainty alongside violent offenders in Ward Five of Vakilabad Prison, despite 121 days having passed since his arrest. Haeri has been charged in Branch 906 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Mashhad with multiple accusations, including “insulting the Supreme Leader,” “propaganda against the regime,” and “disturbing public opinion.” However, no court session has been held for him so far.

Haeri was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents at his home in Mashhad on February 27, 2024, and was taken to The Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in the city.

He was eventually transferred to Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad, on March 28, 2024.

Previously, a source close to the family of this political detainee told HRANA: “Despite providing the bail, the officials at the Prosecutor’s Office of Mashhad are refusing his release.”

Report on the Latest Status of Writer Mehrzad Mousavi in Adelabad Prison

Mehrzad Mousavi, a writer and historian, is serving his sentence in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz. He was previously sentenced by the Shiraz Revolutionary Court to eleven years in prison and two years of exile in Kerman.

Based on information received by HRANA, Mr. Mousavi was previously sentenced by Branch 1 of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court to five years in prison for the charge of “membership in anti-regime groups,” five years in prison for the charge of “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security,” one year in prison for the charge of “propaganda against the regime,” and two years of exile to Bardsir, Kerman.

This writer and historian was arrested by IRGC intelligence agents at his home in Shiraz in early November 2023 and transferred to Adelabad Prison in this city.

Mousavi has made contributions to the realm of literature and historical research, with notable works to his name such as “An Inquiry into Achaemenid Art Antecedents” and “Iran in Two Invasions.”

Mandana Karimi Bakhtiari Imprisoned in Evin Prison on Political Charges

Mandana Karimi Bakhtiari, a political prisoner, is serving her sentence in Evin Prison. She was previously sentenced to five years in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

A source close to the family of this political prisoner confirmed this news to HRANA, stating: “Ms. Karimi, around 55 years old, who was previously sentenced to five years in prison by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, was arrested by security forces at her private residence on June 10th to serve her sentence and was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison.”

According to information received by HRANA, charges against this political prisoner include “propaganda against the regime” and “membership in opposition groups to act against national security.”

Hora Nikbakht Detained in Evin Prison

Hora Nikbakht, a resident of Tehran, remains in detention in Evin Prison eight days after her arrest. She was detained and transferred to this prison after appearing at Evin Prosecutor’s Office.

Based on information from HRANA, Ms. Nikbakht was arrested on June 12, after appearing at Branch 3 of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office and was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison.

Previously, this citizen had received a summons to defend herself against the charges attributed to her at the mentioned prosecutor’s office.

As of the time of this report, the reasons for her arrest and the charges against Nikbakht remain unknown.

Media Activist Hossein Razzagh Sentenced to 74 Lashes on Appeal

The lashing sentence for Hossein Razzagh, a media activist, has been upheld by the Tehran Province Court of Appeals. He was initially sentenced by the Tehran Revolutionary Court to 74 lashes for “absence and failure to report to Amol Prison.”

In April this year, while Razzagh was serving his sentence in Ward 209 of Evin Prison, he was sentenced to 74 lashes by the Tehran Revolutionary Court. A source close to Mr. Razzagh’s family told HRANA that the reason for this sentence was “absence and failure to report to Amol Prison.”

Razzagh was released from Evin Prison on June 10. Emtedad Online, which reported his release, did not provide any details about the manner and conditions of his release.

On August 22, 2022, Razzagh was arrested by security forces in Amol concerning his previous case. In September of 2022, he was charged with a new case against him and was sentenced to four years and three months in prison by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court in April 2023. Additionally, he was charged in June 2023 in another case.

Hossein Razzagh has previously faced arrest and judicial actions for his activities.

Mahmoud Toorang Sentenced to Imprisonment and Flogging

Following the rejection of his appeal request, Mahmoud Toorang, a resident of Yasuj, was sentenced by Branch 2 of the Yasuj Criminal Court to one year in prison and seventy-four lashes.

Based on the verdict issued on June 11 by Branch 105 of the Yasuj Criminal Court, Toorang was sentenced to one year in prison and 74 lashes for the charge of “disturbing public order by causing unrest and participating in protests on December 7, 2022.”

A source close to the family confirmed this news to HRANA, stating: “Mr. Toorang’s case was previously closed following the issuance of an amnesty directive. However, the case was reopened, and after the rejection of the appeal request, he was summoned to start serving his sentence.”

Toorang, aged around 29, was initially arrested by security forces in Dehdasht on December 26, 2022. He was released on bail from Yasuj Prison on February 2, 2023. He was re-arrested by security forces in Yasuj on September 15, 2023, coinciding with the first anniversary of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini’s death, and was released on bail after 11 days.

 

Shahab Mohammadian Arrested in Yasuj

On June 16, 202, Shahab Mohammadian, a resident of Yasuj, was arrested by security forces in this city and transferred to an unknown location.

Based on information received by HRANA, Mohammadian’s arrest took place on Sunday, June 16, by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence. Mohammadian is a relative of Kourosh Jalil, a detained citizen from Yasuj who is currently being held by the Ministry of Intelligence’s office in this city.

As of the time of this report, no information is available about the location where Shahab Mohammadian is being held or the reasons for his arrest.

Report on the Latest Situation of Workers’ Rights Advocate Mohammad Davari in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz

Mohammad Davari, a workers’ rights advocate is serving his sentence in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz. In a violation of prisoners’ rights, he has recently been denied access to phone calls to his family starting from Sunday, June 16.

A source close to Davari’s family confirmed this news to HRANA, saying: “Mr. Davari was transferred from solitary confinement to the judicial suite of Adelabad Prison, Shiraz today. At the same time, by the order of the prison supervising judge, he has been denied the ability to make phone calls to his family.”

Davari went on a hunger strike on June 8 in protest of his relocation to solitary confinement as a punitive measure.

Davari began serving his sentence on May 15 this year in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz.

Earlier in November of 2023, he was sentenced by Branch 1 of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Seyed Mahmoud Sadati, to three years of imprisonment for the charge of “insulting the Supreme Leader of Iran”, a ban on leaving the country with passport cancellation, a ban on online activities, and mandatory residence in Bardsir, Kerman for two years. Additionally, for the charge of propaganda against the regime in favor of anti-regime groups, he was sentenced to one year and six months of imprisonment.

Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment from multiple charges, which is three years of imprisonment, will be enforceable for him.

A source close to the Davari family told HRANA about the details of the court process: “The court did not cite any examples regarding the charge of “insulting the Supreme Leader of Iran” against the defendant. Furthermore, another part of his case concerning the charge of “disseminating falsehoods” is under review in the Shiraz Criminal Court.”

The hearing on Mohammad Davari’s charges was held in absentia on November 19, 2023, in this judicial body.

Mohammad Davari, aged around 30, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Azad University of Yasuj and is a Political Science undergraduate student at Golestan University of Shiraz. He has a history of arrest and conviction due to his activities.
