Two Prisoners Executed in Central Prison of Karaj

HRANA News Agency – At dawn on Tuesday, May 27, two prisoners previously sentenced to death on drug-related charges were executed in  Central Prison of Karaj.

HRANA has confirmed the identity of one of the executed individuals as Rahim Amiri, a resident of Harsin. The second prisoner, whose identity has not yet been established, was reportedly from Nurabad in Lorestan Province.

On Sunday, May 25, both prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for the execution.

According to information received by HRANA, the two individuals had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and were subsequently sentenced to death by Revolutionary Courts.

Further details, including the identity of the second prisoner, are still under investigation by HRANA.

As of the time of this report, the executions have not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant state bodies.

A Prisoner Executed in Dorud Prison

HRANA News Agency – At dawn yesterday, April 20, the death sentence of a prisoner previously convicted of murder was carried out in Dorud Prison, Lorestan province.

The identity of the prisoner, previously sentenced to death on a charge of murder, has been confirmed by HRANA as Javad Goudarzi.

Mr. Goudarzi had been transferred to solitary confinement on April 19, 2025, in preparation for the execution.

As of the time of this report, the execution has not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

In 2024, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran documented 812 cases related to the right to life, including the sentencing of 214 individuals to death and the execution of 930 individuals. Among these, 4 executions were carried out in public. Of those executed, 818 were male, 26 were female, and 5 were juvenile offenders—individuals under 18 years old at the time of their alleged crimes.

Three Individuals Arrested for Blasphemy and Insulting Regime

The Chief of Police in Borujerd, Lorestan province, announced the arrest of three individuals for “blasphemy and insulting the regime online,” as per IRNA. They’ve been detained by judicial order, with their social media page removed. Identities remain undisclosed.

In 2023, the Department of Statistics and Publications of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) documented 2,380 cases in which citizens, including journalists and civil rights activists, faced legal and security consequences for exercising their freedom of expression and thought. These incidents resulted in the arrest of 3,130 individuals.

Woman Killed in Police Shooting Incident

In Aligudarz, Lorestan Province, tragedy struck when police mistakenly opened fire on a vehicle, resulting in the death of 21-year-old Negar Karimian.

According to her sister’s social media post, on March 9, 2024, police fired upon their vehicle, mistaking it for another, injuring Negar. Despite efforts, she succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

Reports suggest that the police suspected the vehicle of involvement in drug smuggling, leading to the tragic mistake.

In 2023, the Department of Statistics and Publications of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) documented 402 incidents of civilians being shot by military forces. These incidents resulted in 120 civilian deaths, including 20 Kolbars (border carriers), 37 fuel carriers, and 63 other civilians. Additionally, 282 individuals were injured, comprising 228 Kolbars, 31 ordinary civilians, and 23 fuel carriers.

HRANA’s Daily Review of Protests in Iran

On Wednesday, August 10, at least 10 protests and one labour strike took place in Iran.

The retirees of Iran Air (The National Airline of Iran) gathered before this Airline pension fund in Tehran to protest against the merger of the fund and the Civil Servants Pension Organization.

The pensioners of the Social Security Organization continued their protest in Khorramabad, Kermanshah, Babol, Rasht, Arak and Kerman. During their rally in Kermanshah, three pensioners were arrested but released after a few hours.

 

 

The residents of the village Dariab in Lorestan Province protested against the pollution of their village by the sewage of an industrial town. As a protest, they blocked the road connecting this industrial town to the village.

In Kermanshah, truck drivers went on strike in protest against their poor living conditions, low fares, expensive auto parts and fuel shortage.

One Worker Killed and One Injured in Recent Workplace Accidents

In two recent workplace accidents, one worker lost his life in Azna City in Lorestan Province and one was injured severely in Baneh City in Kurdistan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting IRIB News Agency, a worker of Iran Ferroalloy Industries Company was killed after falling from a tall industrial structure. Reportedly, he died from a heavy object that fell on top of him in the accident.

In a separate work accident, according to IRNA, a gasoline leak from a car parked in a store caused a fire that severely injured one worker in an industrial town in Baneh City.

“The fire broke out in the store due to the gasoline leaked from a car in the vicinity of a heading torch” head of Municipal Fire and Safety Services of Baneh Salar Bastami stated. The injured worker has second-degree burns and is now hospitalized in Tabriz City.

Four Workers Killed and Three Injured due to Unsafe Workplace Conditions

On Tuesday, October 26, in Abhar City, unsafe workplace conditions at steel company Fulad-Nab Arash led to a fatal accident in which four workers were killed and three injured.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, the cause of death for the three killed workers was nitrogen asphyxiation.

“On Tuesday at 4 pm, the medical emergency center was called about a work accident in Fulad-Nab Arash Company located in one of the industrial estates in Abhar City,” the public relations officer of the medical emergency of Abhar commented. “Immediately three ambulances were dispatched to the spot.”

He added, “One worker lost consciousness due to suffocation by nitrogen gas. Two others rushed to save him, but, unfortunately, they  suffocated too and all three lost their lives on the spot.”

The medical superintendent of forensic medicine of Abhar added that four other workers were injured. Three have been discharged from the hospital and the last is still under medical treatment.

The medical superintendent of forensic medicine in Lorestan Province reported that only in the first six months of this year, 346 workers have killed or injured in this province.

Inmate Executed in Boroujerd Prison in Lorestan Province

At dawn on Wednesday, September 22, 45-year-old Ahmad Forouhid was executed in Boroujerd Prison in Lorestan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Human Rights (IHR), Forouhid had previously sentenced to death on a charge of murder.

Iran ranks first in the world in executions per capita, according to international organizations. The Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) reported that between January 1 and December 20 of 2020, at least 236 citizens were executed.

One of these citizens was executed publicly, and two were juvenile offenders. An additional 95 citizens were sentenced to death. According to the same report, more than 72% of executions in Iran are not reported by the government or the judiciary, which human rights organizations call “secret” executions.

The execution of Mr. Forouhid has not been announced by any Iranian media or official sources as of this writing.

14-Year-Old Mobina Murdered in Lorestan in what Islamic Penal Code Classifies as “Honor Killing”

On Monday, August 30, 14-year-old Mobina, who was from the Suri area of Lorestan Province was murdered by a family member in what is classified under Islamic Law as an “honor killing”.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rokna, Mobina was the victim of a child marriage who was married to a young cleric in her village. She was murdered after relatives presumed she had an affair.

Under Islamic Law, in murder cases where the (usually-female) victim has been accused of  “disgracing the family’s honor”, exemptions and sentence reductions are frequently granted to the murderers.

“The murder happened due to family disputes, and the accused has been identified and arrested,” said the Lorestan police chief. “He is one of the relatives of the victim.”

“Honor crimes” or “honor killings” are acts of assault or murder, usually towards women and usually committed by male relatives.

The scope of the ways “disgracing family honor” can be defined is extremely broad; women can be accused for being victims of rape, getting a divorce (even from an abusive husband), committing adultery, or even just having sexual relations before marriage.

More than 3,000 Nomadic Students in the Country have Dropped out of School

According to the HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ILNA, Seifi, the Director-General of Nomadic Education section in the Ministry of Education, announced the existence of 3,626 students who dropped out of school among students in tribes.

“The highest number of students who dropped out of school is in the provinces of West Azerbaijan with 1,061 students, Lorestan Province with 566 students, and Kerman with 265 students,” Seifi said. “Currently, more than 75,743 nomadic students are deprived of having access to Shad network to use virtual education due to lack of necessary infrastructure. During the last academic year, 72% of our nomadic schools were held in person. Provinces with better infrastructure had the highest rates of virtual classes.”

Seifi further noted, “Nomadic students of West Azerbaijan Province were left out of education due to their inability to purchase textbooks. This province has 32000 nomad students from which a large number of nomadic female students in this province did not enroll in school due to inability to purchase textbooks.”
