Parivash Moslemi Sentenced to Prison

Parivash Moslemi, a political defendant imprisoned in Evin Prison, has been sentenced to three years and eight months in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

Based on a ruling recently issued by the Tehran Revolutionary Court and delivered to Ms. Moslemi in prison two days ago, she has been sentenced to two years in prison for the charge of “assembly and collusion,” one year for “insulting the Supreme Leader,” and eight months for “propaganda against the regime.”

A source close to the family of this political defendant confirmed the news to HRANA, stating: “Moslemi did not attend any of the sessions related to her charges, including interrogations and court hearings. She had previously declared in writing and verbally that she did not recognize these proceedings and would not participate.”

Moslemi was arrested on July 7 after reporting to the Evin Prosecutor’s Office and was subsequently transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison.

Ms. Moslemi, aged around 46, was arrested by security forces in the city of Nur in March-April this year. She was released three days later from one of the city’s security detention facilities.

Parivash Moslemi was previously detained by security forces in September 2023, coinciding with the anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death. She was finally released a month later after posting bail from Qarchak Prison located in Varamin.

Mowloud Safaei Incarcerated in Evin Prison to Serve Sentence

On July, Mowloud Safaie was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison to serve her three-year sentence on political charges.

A source close to the political prisoner’s family confirmed the news to HRANA, stating: “Ms. Safaie was arrested at her residence in Tehran by security forces today, Tuesday, July 31st, and transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison to serve her three-year sentence.”

Mowloud Safaie was previously arrested by security forces in Tehran on June 16, 2021, and was released from Qarchak Prison on bail after a period of detention.
She was subsequently sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to four years in prison on charges including “propaganda activities against the regime.” With the application of Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment, which is three years in prison, is enforceable for her.

In 2012, Ms. Safaie was sentenced by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, to five years in prison and five years of compulsory residence in Semnan.

Safaie, 64, is the sister of Zahra Safaie, a political prisoner currently held in Evin Prison. Mowloud Safaie has a history of previous arrests and convictions due to her peaceful activities.

Ms. Safaie’s father, known as “Haji Safaei,” was a prominent merchant in Tehran who was executed in 1981 on charges of supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran. Her husband, Ebrahim Saeidi, who was a telecommunications employee, was also executed in 1984.

Political Detainee Parivash Moslemi Detained for Over 15 Days

Parivash Moslemi, a political detainee, has been held in Evin Prison for over fifteen days with unclear legal status.

Based on information received by HRANA, Ms. Moslemi was arrested on July 7th after reporting to the Evin Prosecutor’s Office and subsequently transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison. A source close to the family of this political detainee confirmed this news to HRANA, stating, “Parivash has also been charged with offenses such as ‘propaganda against the regime,’ ‘insulting the Founder and the Supreme Leader,’ and ‘assembly and collusion against national security.'”

Ms. Moslemi, aged around 46, was arrested by security forces in the city of Nur in March-April this year. She was released three days later from one of the city’s security detention facilities.

Judicial Case Filed Against Former Political Prisoner Fariba Asadi

Fariba Asadi, a former political prisoner who was released from prison in February 2023 after serving a previous sentence, is now facing a new judicial case.

A knowledgeable source close to Asadi confirmed the news to HRANA, stating that this case was opened following a complaint by Fereshteh Khadem, an official of the Mohammadshahr Revolutionary Court. The charges against Ms. Asadi include “propaganda against the Islamic Republic,” “disrupting public order and peace,” “public display of sinful acts,” “insulting officials and agents,” “intentional assault and battery,” and “insulting ordinary people.”

This source added that Fereshteh Khadem had previously filed a complaint against Ms. Asadi, which was closed with a no-prosecution ruling. The trial for Fariba Asadi’s new charges is scheduled for July 21, at the Mohammadshahr Criminal Court 2.

Asadi was previously arrested along with three co-defendants in February 2021 by security forces on charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “membership in anti-regime groups.” She was released on bail after a while. In October 2021, she was sentenced to one year in prison by Branch 2 of the Shahriar Revolutionary Court for “propaganda against the regime.” In January 2022, she began serving her sentence in Qarchak Varamin Prison. She was ultimately released from Evin Prison in late February 2023 following an amnesty directive.

She was arrested again in September last year in connection with another case and released on bail from Kachouei Prison in Karaj in March of the same year.

Civil Rights Activist Atena Farghadani Arrested

Atena Farghadani, a prominent civil rights activist and cartoonist, was arrested by security forces on April 13, 2024, and confined in Qarchak Prison located in Varamin, as reported by Voice of America Persian News Network.

Farghadani’s refusal to provide bail for her release, as a form of protest against her arrest, reportedly led to her transfer to Qarchak Prison. Following her arrest, she was subjected to physical violence, resulting in visible bruises on her face.

HRANA received information from a source close to her family indicating that she was arrested for publicly displaying one of her paintings on a street in Tehran. For this, she has faced the charges of “blasphemy, disturbing public order and propaganda against the regime.”

This is not the first instance of Farghadani facing arrest and legal action for her activism. Previously, on June 7, 2023, she was arrested at Evin Courthouse and subsequently detained in Qarchak Prison. After several days, she was charged with “disturbing public order” and released on bail.

Student Samaneh Asghari Commences Prison Term at Evin Prison

Samaneh Asghari, a student at Kharazmi University, has begun serving her one-year prison sentence at Evin prison.

Esmaeil Nazari, Asghari’s spouse, publicly announced, “Today, April 3rd, my wife went to the Courthouse in Shahre Ray to begin serving her sentence at Evin prison.”

Asghari was arrested by security forces at her residence in Tehran on September 14, 2023, and later released on bail from Qarchak Prison in Varamin on October 4, 2023.

In December 2023, the Revolutionary Court sentenced Asghari to one year in prison, a ruling upheld by the Appellate Court of Tehran.

It’s important to note that Asghari was previously detained in connection with nationwide protests in October 2022, initially receiving a sentence of 18 years and three months. However, she was pardoned under the general amnesty and commutation directive, leading to her release from Qarchak Prison in April of the current year.

Three Political Prisoners Sentenced to a Combined 14 Years in Upheld Verdict

The Appeals Court of Tehran has confirmed a joint 14-year prison sentence for political prisoners Mohsen Haji-Mohammadi, Rezavaneh Ahmad-Khan Beigi, and Behfar Laleh Zari.

As per the verdict endorsed by Branch 36 of the Appeals Court of Tehran, Laleh Zari and her husband Ahmad-Khan Beigi have each been given four years for “assembly and collusion against national security” and an additional year for “spreading propaganda against the regime.” Haji-Mohammadi, on the other hand, received a four-year sentence for “assembly and collusion against national security.”

The initial ruling was handed down by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, led by Judge Iman Afshari.

On September 18, 2023, civil rights advocate, Ahmad-Khan Beigi and Laleh Zari were arrested at their residence by security forces. Laleh Zari, initially held in solitary confinement under Security Police custody, was later transferred to Evin Prison, while Ahmad-Khan Beigi was relocated to Qarchak Prison in Varamin, eventually being moved to Evin Prison.

Haji-Mohammadi’s arrest occurred in Tehran in September 2023. After seven days of solitary confinement under the Public Security Police, they were transferred to Evin Prison.

All three political prisoners have a history of arrests and convictions stemming from their engagement in political activism.

Student Samaneh Asghari Receives One-Year Prison Sentence on Appeal

The Court of Appeal in Tehran has issued a one-year prison sentence for Samaneh Asghari, a student at Kharazmi University.

In a verdict dated February 10, 2024, Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeal upheld Asghari’s one-year sentence. The initial verdict was issued by Branch 29 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

Asghari was detained by security forces at her residence in Tehran on September 14, 2023, and subsequently released on bail from Qarchak Prison in Varamin on October 4, 2023.

It is worth noting that Asghari had previously faced detention in connection with nationwide protests in October 2022, leading to an initial sentence of 18 years and three months. However, she was granted a pardon under the general pardon and commutation directive, resulting in her release from Qarchak Prison in April of the current year.

Activist Couple Laleh Zari and Ahmad-Khan Beigi Receive Combined 10-Year Prison Sentence

In a recent development, the Tehran Revolutionary Court has handed down a five-year sentence to each of Behfar Laleh Zari and Rezvaneh Ahmad-Khan Beigi, a couple currently held in Evin Prison.

Presiding over the court, Judge Iman Afshari issued this ruling, sentencing each member of the couple to four years for “assembly and collusion against national security” and an additional year for “propaganda against the regime.” If the verdict is upheld on appeal, Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code mandates that the four-year sentence for the first charge will be enforceable.

The arrest of Laleh Zari and Ahmad-Khan Beigi took place at their residence on September 18, 2023. Following seven days of solitary confinement in the detention facility of the Public Security Police, Laleh Zari, a former political prisoner, was transferred to Evin Prison. Meanwhile, Mrs. Ahmad-Khan Beigi was initially detained in Qarchak Prison and later moved to Evin Prison after a few days.

This couple has a history of activism, having faced prior arrests and incarceration. This latest sentencing adds to their ongoing legal challenges in their pursuit of social and political advocacy.
