Babak Eslami Farsani, Attorney, Sentenced to Prison

HRANA  – Babak Eslami Farsani, an attorney, has been sentenced to nine months in prison by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

According to HRANA, Babak Eslami Farsani has been sentenced to imprisonment.

Based on a ruling issued on Sunday, August 2, by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, Mr. Eslami Farsani was sentenced to nine months in prison on the charge of propaganda against the state.

In Late May of this year, he had been summoned to Branch 4 of the Investigation Office of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Tehran’s District 33.

Babak Eslami Farsani, an attorney, has represented the family of Mehrshad Shahidi, one of those killed during the 2022 nationwide protests in Arak. In connection with this representation, a judicial case had previously been opened against him at the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Arak County.

HRANA – A judicial case has been opened against Babak Eslami Farsani, an attorney at law, in the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Arak County.

Mr. Eslami Farsani announced earlier on Saturday, November 1, that he had been summoned to Branch 2 of the Arak Prosecutor’s Office on July 17, 2025, to defend himself against the charge of “propaganda against the regime.” He stated that the summons was issued in connection with his role as the legal representative of the family of Mehrshad Shahidi, one of those killed during the nationwide protests of 2022.

Mr. Eslami Farsani has not provided further details regarding the case.

Mahmood Mehrabi, a Political Prisoner, Receives Death Sentence

Mahmood (Mahmoud) Mehrabi has been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Isfahan on charges of “spreading corruption on earth.” He is currently held at Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.

Babak Eslami Farsani, Mehrabi’s legal representative, relayed that Branch 5 of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court issued the death sentence. Farsani highlighted that they were only informed of the decision at court, with no written verdict provided. He expressed hope that the Supreme Court would address the perceived shortcomings in the ruling. The court justified the sentence by accusing Mehrabi of “widespread dissemination of false information on Instagram.”

Mehrabi was first detained by security forces on February 1, 2023, in Isfahan, and was temporarily released on bail on March 16, 2023, only to be rearrested at his home shortly after.

In September 2023, Mehrabi faced a series of additional charges, including propaganda against the regime, incitement of police and military forces to disobedience, incitement to war, crimes against national security, and insulting the founder and Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In January of this year, he was further charged with publishing confidential information and committing acts of blasphemy, including insulting Shia Imams.

Mehrabi has a history of arrests and convictions linked to his activism.
