Morteza Keyvanloo’s Sentence Upheld on Appeal

The seven months and fifteen days prison sentence for Morteza Keyvanloo, a resident of Joghatai County, has been upheld by the Court of Appeal of Razavi Khorasan Province.

Based on a ruling issued on June 18 of this year by Branch 35 of the Court of Appeal of Razavi Khorasan Province and communicated to Mr. Keyvanloo, he has been sentenced to seven months and fifteen days of discretionary imprisonment.

In May of this year, Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Sabzevar, presided over by Mohammad Gholami, convicted Keyvanloo of “propaganda against the regime on the Internet.”

Keyvanloo was arrested on February 18, 2024, by security forces in Sabzevar and was released about twenty days later on bail.

According to information received by HRANA, this citizen was also sentenced to six months in prison last year on a similar charge, with the issued sentence suspended for five years. Additionally, in another case, he was fined by the Joghatai Criminal Court.

Morteza Keyvanloo, aged around 41, is the father of two daughters and a resident of Joghatai County.

Teacher Union Activist Mohsen Omrani Sentenced to Imprisonment

Mohsen Omrani, a member of the Board of Directors of the Bushehr Teachers’ Trade Association, has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Revolutionary Court of Bushehr.

According to the ruling issued by the Revolutionary Court of Bushehr and recently communicated to Mr. Omrani, he has been sentenced to one year in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.” Several posts on social media have been cited as evidence for the charges against him.

The court session for these charges was held on July 2 of this year. A previous court session for Omrani’s charges was held, but the case was sent back to the prosecutor’s office due to deficiencies.

A source close to Mr. Omrani told HRANA that he is facing another legal case. In October of last year, Omrani, along with three other members of the Board of Directors of the Bushehr Teachers’ Trade Association, was sentenced to two years of discretionary imprisonment, confiscation of seized assets in favor of the government, and a three-year ban on teaching activities in academic environments. This case has been sent to Branch 3 of the Bushehr Province Court of Appeals, with a hearing date set for August.

Additionally, Mr. Omrani, along with two other union activists, was sentenced by the Bushehr Province Criminal Court to a fine for “participating in teachers’ union protests.” Later, these citizens were acquitted of the charges by the province’s Court of Appeals.

Mohsen Omrani, a member of the Board of Directors of the Bushehr Teachers’ Trade Association, has a history of arrest and conviction due to his activities.

Soheil Habibi Arrested by Ministry of Intelligence

Soheil Habibi Kohneh Shahri, a resident of Salmas in West Azerbaijan province, was arrested on Friday, July 5, after being summoned to The Ministry of Intelligence’s office in the city.

Based on the information received by HRANA, Habibi, who had been previously summoned by phone to the Salmas Ministry of Intelligence, was arrested on Friday, July 5, after appearing at the aforementioned institution and was transferred to an unknown location.
A source close to the family confirmed the news to HRANA, stating: “Soheil was a member of one of the candidates’ campaign teams during the presidential election. It is likely that his summons and arrest were due to his comments regarding one of the candidates and the previous government.”

Habibi had also been previously arrested in November 2022 for his activities.

As of the time of this report, the charges and the whereabouts of this citizen remain unknown.

Workers’ Rights Activist Sharifeh Mohammadi Sentenced to Death for Armed Rebellion (Baghi)

Sharifeh Mohammadi, a workers’ rights advocate, imprisoned in Lakan Prison in Rasht, has been sentenced to death by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht on charges of “Baghi” (armed rebellion).

This verdict, issued by Judge Ahmad Darvish Goftar of Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht, was communicated to her husband, Sirus Fathi, today, Thursday, July 4th. Ms. Mohammadi was sentenced to death on charges of “Baghi” due to her alleged membership in an opposition group.
The court session addressing Sharifeh Mohammadi’s charges was held on June 8th, covering accusations of propaganda against the regime, acting against national security, and “Baghi” through membership in an opposition group.

The Ministry of Intelligence apprehended Mohammadi at her Rasht residence on December 5, 2023. Subsequently, she was transferred from Lakan Prison to Sanandaj Prison on December 30, 2023, only to be returned to Lakan Prison later on.

A source close to the labor activist’s family previously told HRANA, “Sharifeh was a member of the Association of Labor Organizations until 2013, which has no connection to the Komala group that she is accused of being a member of, leading to the charge of ‘Baghi’.”

Four Prisoners Executed in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad

On June 30, 2024, four inmates previously sentenced to death on drug-related charges were executed in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad.

These prisoners were hanged at dawn on Sunday, June 30th. Two of them were from Mashhad, one was from Quchan, and the other was an Afghan national. They had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and subsequently sentenced to death. The two prisoners from Mashhad were arrested in 2019.

Based on information received by HRANA, the execution of these prisoners was carried out without a final meeting with their families. Two of them were identified by HRANA as Yaser Ghafoorian and 47-year-old Mohammad Hooshyar Alizadeh.

No official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have provided coverage of these executions at the time of writing.

According to data gathered by the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists, Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj witnessed the highest number of executions in 2023, with Zahedan Prison following closely behind. Ruhollah Kavousi Remains Detained for Over 300 Days, Facing Political Charges

Ruhollah Kavousi, a political detainee, has been held in Sheiban Prison, Ahvaz, for over 300 days without resolution. Despite his poor health, he has been denied proper medical care and transfer to medical facilities.

A source close to Kavousi’s family confirmed the news to HRANA, stating: “Mr. Kavousi has developed kidney and liver diseases, affecting his physical health. Nonetheless, he has been denied transfer to external medical facilities and proper medical care.”

Based on HRANA’s information, despite 306 days passing since his arrest, Kavousi remains in limbo in Sheiban Prison, Ahvaz. His case is under review by the second branch of the Izeh Prosecutor’s Office. He faces charges including “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the regime.”

Kavousi, from Izeh, was arrested by security forces in Ahvaz on September 1, 2023, and subsequently transferred to Sheiban Prison in the city.

Women’s Rights Advocate Atefeh Rangriz Arrested

Atefeh Rangriz, a women’s rights activist, was arrested on Saturday, June 29th, after a court session addressing her charges and was transferred to Shahrud Prison.

A source close to the family of this women’s rights activist confirmed the news to HRANA, saying: “Ms. Rangriz was arrested after a court session addressing her charges in Branch 1 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Damghan and was transferred to Shahrud Prison.” She had recently been summoned to the mentioned branch to defend herself against charges of “forming a group aiming to disrupt national security,” “propaganda against the regime,” and “disseminating falsehoods on the Internet to disturb public opinion.”

Rangriz’s initial arrest dates back to September 10, 2023, when she was arrested by security forces in Damghan and transferred to The Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Semnan. After completing the interrogation process, she was moved to Shahrud Prison. She was finally released on bail from Shahrud Prison on October 21, 2023.

Rangriz has previously been arrested and sentenced due to her activities.

Report on the Latest Status of Yavar Fathollahi in Evin Prison

Yavar Fathollahi, a political prisoner and one of those arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022 (also known as the Mahsa Amini protests), is serving his sentence in Evin Prison. Mr. Fathollahi was initially sentenced to seventeen years in prison by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, but his sentence was reduced to 80 months following an appeal.

Based on information received by HRANA, this political prisoner was sentenced on January 23, 2024, by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad-Reza Amuzad, to a total of seventeen years in prison. This included eight years for the charge of “destroying public property,” five years for “assembly and collusion with the intent to disrupt national security,” one year for  “disobeying the orders of officers,” and three years for “acting against national security.” Finally, in March of last year, Mr. Fathollahi’s sentence was reduced to 80 months, equivalent to six years and eight months, following an appeal.

A source close to the family of this political prisoner confirmed this news to HRANA and said: “The court session to address Yavar’s charges was held in December of last year. Ultimately, in early April of this year, the mentioned sentence was communicated to the Evin Prosecutor’s Office’s enforcement unit.”

Fathollahi, born on March 25, 1994, and a resident of Tehran, was arrested by IRGC intelligence forces on September 21, 2022, during the nationwide protests. On September 25 of the same year, he was transferred from the IRGC Intelligence Detention Center (Ward 2-A) to the Greater Tehran Prison. Finally, in late March 2023, he was transferred to Evin Prison.

Political Detainee Ramin Haeri Remains in Detention for Over 120 Days of Uncertainty

Javad (Ramin) Haeri, a political detainee, has remained in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad for nearly four months since his arrest by security forces. He has been co-housed with prisoners of violent crime, which violates prison rules dictating the separation of prisoners based on the nature of their offenses.

According to HRANA, Mr. Haeri continues to be held in uncertainty alongside violent offenders in Ward Five of Vakilabad Prison, despite 121 days having passed since his arrest. Haeri has been charged in Branch 906 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Mashhad with multiple accusations, including “insulting the Supreme Leader,” “propaganda against the regime,” and “disturbing public opinion.” However, no court session has been held for him so far.

Haeri was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents at his home in Mashhad on February 27, 2024, and was taken to The Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in the city.

He was eventually transferred to Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad, on March 28, 2024.

Previously, a source close to the family of this political detainee told HRANA: “Despite providing the bail, the officials at the Prosecutor’s Office of Mashhad are refusing his release.”

Report on the Latest Status of Writer Mehrzad Mousavi in Adelabad Prison

Mehrzad Mousavi, a writer and historian, is serving his sentence in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz. He was previously sentenced by the Shiraz Revolutionary Court to eleven years in prison and two years of exile in Kerman.

Based on information received by HRANA, Mr. Mousavi was previously sentenced by Branch 1 of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court to five years in prison for the charge of “membership in anti-regime groups,” five years in prison for the charge of “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security,” one year in prison for the charge of “propaganda against the regime,” and two years of exile to Bardsir, Kerman.

This writer and historian was arrested by IRGC intelligence agents at his home in Shiraz in early November 2023 and transferred to Adelabad Prison in this city.

Mousavi has made contributions to the realm of literature and historical research, with notable works to his name such as “An Inquiry into Achaemenid Art Antecedents” and “Iran in Two Invasions.”
