Iran Protests: Kamal Abdollahzadeh Sentenced to Five Years and Eight Months in Prison

The Tehran Court of Appeals recently upheld five years and eight months sentence against Kamal Abdollahzadeh arrested during nationwide protests.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Kamal Abdollahzadeh was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison for “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the regime.”

On September 28, 2022, Abdollahzadeh was arrested and jailed at Great Tehran Penitentiary. He was released on bail on December 17, 2022.

Since the beginning of nationwide protests, over 19620 people, including journalists, artists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. So far, over protests, at least 775 people have been sentenced to a total of about 13969 months imprisonment.

Media Activist Amir Maskani Sentenced to Imprisonment

The Revolutionary Court sentenced Amir Maskani, artist and media activist, to seven months in prison, nine months of suspended imprisonment and paying a fine. Maskani is a resident of Sabzevar, Razavi Khorasan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, media activist Amir Maskani was sentenced to imprisonment and paying a fine.

Maskani received three months for “propaganda against the regime” and thirteen months in prison, of which nine months is suspended, for “inciting people to commit murder and wage war against national security.” He was also fined five million tomans.

The court session was held on November 28, 2022.

Since the beginning of nationwide protests, about 19560 people, including journalists, artists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. So far, over protests, at least 756 people have been sentenced to a total of about 13128 months imprisonment.

 

 

Iran Protests: Amir Sheibani Zaveh Sentenced to over Eight Years in Prison

The Mashhad Revolutionary Court sentenced Amir Sheibani Zaveh, arrested during nationwide protests, to eight years and six months imprisonment.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, protestor Amir Sheibani Zaveh was sentenced to imprisonment.

Sheibani received four years and six months for “assembly and collusion against the regime,” three years for “membership in anti-regime groups,” and one year for “propaganda against the regime.”

If the verdict is upheld on appeal, based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, four years and six months for the first count will be enforceable.

According to Sheibani, “publishing the calls for protests, the pictures of Mahsa Amini and Nika Shakarmi’s burial place on social media, and attending one of the killed protestors’ funeral in Mashhad” was presented in the court as pieces of evidence for the charges.

Since the beginning of nationwide protests, about 19570 people, including journalists, artists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. So far, over protests, about 737 people have been sentenced to a total of about 12330 months imprisonment.

 

Hassan Rokooei Haghighi Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

The Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Seyed Hassan Rokooei Haghighi to five years imprisonment and additional punishment. If the verdict is upheld on appeal, based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, four years in prison for one count will be enforceable.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Hassan (Sepehr) Rokooei Haghighi, a resident of Tehran, was sentenced to five years in prison.

Rokooei Haghighi received four years for “assembly and collusion against national security” and one year for “propaganda against the regime.” He was also prohibited from advocating activities on the Internet for two years and was sentenced to the seizure of his cell phone.

On September 22, 2022, security forces arrested Haghighi in Tehran.

Since the outbreak of nationwide protests, about 19500 people, including journalists, artists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. So far, over protests, about 730 people have been sentenced to a total of about 12090 months imprisonment.

 

Iran Protests: Farnaz Nazeri Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison

The Revolutionary Court sentenced Farnaz Nazeri, arrested in recent protests in Qaemshahr, to ten years in prison. She was also banned from leaving the country for two years.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Farnaz Nazeri was sentenced to imprisonment over protests.
On November 6, 2022, security forces arrested Nazeri in Qaemshahr. She was released on three-billion-toman bail temporarily until the end of legal proceedings.

An informed source told HRANA that her lawyer has not yet had access to the documents of her case.
Farnaz Nazeri is a painter and sculptor, and mother of two daughters.

Iran Protests: Citizen with Disabilities Mansour Dahmardeh Sentenced to Death over Protests

Mansour Dahmardeh, a resident of Zahedan and a citizen with disabilities, was sentenced to death on the charge of “spreading corruption on earth.” He was arrested at recent protests.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Haal Vsh, Mansour Dahmardeh, arrested at protests, was sentenced to death.

The verdict was issued by Branch 2 of the Zahedan Criminal Court on January 3, 2023.
Dahmardeh was arrested during the nationwide protests in Zahedan on October 3, 2022.

Iran Protests: Poet Reza Keshvari Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

The Karaj Revolutionary Court sentenced poet and painter Reza Keshvari to five years in prison, of which he will be imprisoned in exile for two years. He is also banned from leaving the country for two years.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Reza Keshvari was sentenced to five years in prison and social deprivations.

On October 15, 2022, Keshvari was arrested during nationwide protests in Karaj, following a protest against the arrest of several teenagers. He was jailed in the Central Prison of Karaj.

The charges are still unknown.

Keshvari is a poet and painter, the father of a five-year-old child.

Since the outbreak of nationwide protests, over 19200 people, including journalists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. Lawyer Saeed Sheykh Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

The Tehran Revolutionary Court recently sentenced lawyer Saeed Sheykh to three years in prison. Security forces arrested him in Tehran on October 12, 2022.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Saeed Sheykh (Sheikh), attorney at law, was sentenced to two years for “assembly and collusion against national security” and one year for “propaganda against the regime.” If the verdict is upheld on appeal, applying article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, two years in prison for “assembly and collusion” as the severest punishment will be enforceable.

On his page on social media, Sheykh wrote that he is still barred from leaving the country.

On October 12, 2022, in protest against the unconstitutional crackdown on peaceful protesters, a group of lawyers demonstrated before the Iran Bar Association in Tehran. The police and security forces used tear gas to scatter the lawyers and arrested several, including Saeed Sheykh.

 

 

Iran Protests: Seven People Arrested in Kerman

The public relations office of Kerman IRGC announced the arrest of seven allegedly “protest leaders,” of which several are dual-national.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, IRGC intelligence arrested seven people in Kerman and accused them of “leading protests.”

This IRGC official claimed that these individuals are members of an organization called Zagros, led by some from England.

This report did not disclose the detainee’s identities and the location they have been held.

On December 17, 2022, Raha Ajodani, a non-binary teenager, was arrested by security forces in Tehran and reportedly transferred to a youth detention centre.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on December 17, 2022, Raha Ajodani was arrested in Tehran.
An informed source told HRANA, Ajodani was arrested while leaving her home. The agents searched the house and confiscated some of her belongings.

“Since her registered gender does not match her gender identity, it is unclear in which section for boys or girls, Ajodani has been sent, raising her family concerns,” this informed source added.

Despite frequent family inquiries, the reason for her arrest and the charges are unknown.

Earlier, on October 26, 2022, Ajodani was arrested at recent protests and released after a few hours.
