Three Inmates Executed in Central Prison of Karaj; Three Others Face Imminent Execution

On August 9, 2023, the Central Prison of Karaj carried out the execution of three inmates who had been convicted of drug-related offenses. Simultaneously, three other death-row inmates were transferred to solitary confinement, heightening concerns about their imminent execution.

The executed prisoners have been identified by HRANA as Amir Jahangiri, Mohsen, and Sajad (last names unknown). They had been moved to solitary confinement six days prior to their execution.

HRANA is actively engaged in gathering further information regarding this incident.

Execution of Four Inmates for Drug-Related Charges Takes Place in Hamedan and Shiraz

On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, two inmates, identified as Hossein Nasirian, 40, and Hassan Ali Shakib were executed in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz, as reported by Iran Human Rights Organization.

Nasirian’s conviction dates back three years, while Shakib’s dates back two years.

On the subsequent day, Wednesday, August 9, two more inmates faced execution in Hamedan Prison. Among them, Manuchehr Khazaie, who had been convicted on charges related to drug offenses, met his fate. The second inmate, Ahad Hashemi, whose identity was confirmed by Kurdpa, was also executed.

Execution of Five Inmates in Marand

On August 9, 2023, five inmates, convicted of rape, were executed in Marand, East Azerbaijan province, as reported by Fars News agency.

The Revolutionary and Public Prosecutor of Marand County conveyed that following a thorough legal process, these five individuals who had committed an act of abduction and assault were executed today. The incident had originally been reported on May 21, 2022, when a “woman, accompanied by social emergency personnel, approached the prosecutor’s office in Marand County. She recounted her harrowing experience of being abducted by five unidentified individuals, subsequently taken to the surrounding mountains and subjected to an assault by all five of them.” The individuals were arrested four days later and were subsequently sentenced to death.

As per the report, the identities of the executed inmates have not been disclosed.

Execution of Three Inmates in Kerman and Qazvin

On August 7, Haal Vsh reported that two inmates, both convicted of drug-related crimes, were executed at Kerman Prison.

One of these inmates has been identified as Abdolghafar Shehiki (Hasehmzahi), a 38-year-old married man and father of two children. He was arrested for drug-related offenses in Kerman two years ago and subsequently sentenced to death by the Kerman Revolutionary Court. The second inmate, an Afghan national, remains unidentified.

In a separate incident, the Iran Human Rights Organization informed about the execution of Jabar Moslemi, aged 35, on August 6, at Choobindar Prison in Qazvin. Moslemi had been arrested and convicted of murder three years ago.

Two Inmates Executed in Arak Prison for Drug Offenses

On August 6, 2023, Arak Prison carried out the execution of two prisoners who had been convicted of drug-related crimes, according to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists.

HRANA has identified one of the individuals executed has been identified as Arsalan Kazemi, aged 32.

Three Inmates Executed in Khorramabad for Drug-Related Offenses

On August 2, 2023, three inmates were executed at Parsilon Prison in Khorramabad after being convicted of drug-related crimes.

The executed prisoners have been identified by HRANA as Mohammad-Javad Akbari, Sharif Akbari, and Kianoosh Teymoori.
The execution process commenced after the inmates were transferred to solitary confinement last Monday, as a precursor to the implementation of the sentence.

Five Inmates Executed in Zahedan and Birjand

On July 31, 2023, Birjand Prison in South Khorasan province witnessed the execution of an inmate convicted of drug-related crimes, according to Rasank News.

The inmate was identified as Farhad Badroozeh, a married individual hailing from Sistan and Baluchestan Province, who had been sentenced to death six years ago. Shockingly, the execution occurred without any prior notice to his family, depriving him of a final visitation.

On the same day, Haal Vsh reported the execution of four more inmates in Zahedan Prison. They were identified as Khodarahm Mohammadani (55), Saeed Brahui (38), Ali Brahui (39), and Shahsavar Shahriari (53). These inmates had been convicted of drug offenses four years ago.

Four Inmates Executed in Qom, Babol, Zahedan, and Imminent Execution Awaited in Zabol

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on July 30, an inmate identified as Hamid Asgarinia, convicted of rape, was executed in Qom Prison.

Also, the Chief Justice of Qom province, citing from Fars News Agency, announced the execution of another inmate for rape in this prison took place in the last ten days.

According to Haal Vsh, on July 30, in Zahedan Prison, Baydollah Gorgij, 43, met a tragic fate as he was executed for drug-related crimes. In Babol Prison, Mohammad Arbab, 30, an Afghan national, also was hanged due to the same charges. Both executions took place without prior notice to their families, depriving them of a final visitation.

Adding to the alarming situation, Asadollah Amini, 32, another Afghan national, has been transferred to solitary confinement in Zabol Prison, where he awaits an imminent execution for drug-related crimes.

Mohammad-Javad Vafaie Sani Sentenced to Death After Retrial

In a recent development at the Mashhad Revolutionary Court, political prisoner Mohammad-Javad Vafaie Sani has been handed a death sentence. This verdict comes after the Supreme Court had initially overturned the previous death sentence and ordered a retrial at another branch court.

Breaking the news, Babak Paknia, Vafaie’s lawyer, disclosed that despite the Supreme Court’s argument against the death sentence, the court has once again sentenced him to death. The lawyer has vowed to appeal for a retrial within the moratorium period.

According to Paknia, Vafaie has been accused of “spreading corruption on earth” and “arson of property, including the Government Penitentiary Building.” Following this latest ruling, Vafaie was granted a heavy bail, which unfortunately he was unable to afford, leading to his continued detention.

The case has taken a series of twists and turns, with the Supreme Court eventually overturning the previous verdict, leading to the transfer of the case to another branch court.

Vafaie, a 26-year-old boxing coach, was arrested in March of 2020 by security forces in Mashhad city.
