Five Workers Killed and Six Others Injured Due to Unsafe Workplace Conditions

On January 12, five workers lost their lives in six separate workplace accidents and six more were severely injured due to unsafe workplace conditions.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ILNA, in Kermanshah city, a 34 year old construction worker fell from the seventh floor of a building under construction and died.

IRIB News Agency reported that in Sardasht City, a 50 year old man working on the exterior wall of a building, the wall collapsed due to rainwater permeation. The man’s head was injured severely.

IRIB also reports that in a mine near Tinuj village, Markazi Province, one miner died and five others were injured by carbon monoxide poisoning.

According to ILNA, a worker at the Electricity Distribution Company in Lahijan died after 180 days in a coma after being electrified at work.

According to ROKNA, a worker identified as Peyman Javadi died while working on an oil well at his job. He was employed by Aghajari Oil Company in Khuzestan Province.

ROKNA also reported that a municipal worker in Kordkuy City died from injuries obtained during a workplace accident. The 30 year old was cleaning a garbage truck when the carjack failed and the vehicle slipped and fell on him.

Four Workers Dead, Four Others Injured Due to Unsafe Workplace Conditions

Four workplace accidents in recent days killed four workers and injured four others.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting IRNA, Artin Kamali, the head of Forensic Medicine of Hamadan Province, announced that a fire broke out in a workshop located in Bahar County. The fire killed a 36 year old worker.

“Investigation shows that defects in a heater in the workshop caused the fire,” he added.

According to ROKNA, a worker in Fardis City, Alborz Province, died after falling for a high height. “110 Police Emergency Center was called about the fall of a worker from the fourth floor of a building under construction in Fardis. Immediately, 11 central police officers were dispatched to the spot,” the police commander in Fardis County commented.

“The worker lost his life right after the fall,” he added.

In another workplace accident, one worker died and two others were severely injured in a turning workshop located in Gorgan City after an oxygen cylinder exploded.

Reportedly, when one of the workers was unloading the cylinders from a truck, one cylinder fell to the ground and blasted.

According to TABNAK News Agency, on December 28, in Gachsaran City, a contractor working on the city sewer network died due to the collapse of channel walls. Two other workers were also injured. According to the experts’ report, the ground became frail due to recent rainfalls, leading to the fall of the channel walls.

Two Workers Dead, Three Injured Due to Unsafe Workplace Conditions

On December 20, two workers were killed and three others were injured in three workplace accidents caused by unsafe conditions.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, a worker in Savojbolagh County, Alborz Province cut his hand on fan blades while lubricating a ventilation system. He passed away in the hospital due to blood loss.

Also according to ISNA, a fire broke out in a commercial building in Ardabil City, severely injuring three service workers.

According to IRIB News Agency, a construction worker in Neka County, Mazandaran Province lost his life. The worker fell while installing silo parts for a livestock input production company. For unknown reasons, he fell from high and died immediately.

Director-General of Forensic Medicine of East Azerbaijan, Ali Safai, stated that during the first eight months of this year, 61 workers lost their lives in his province alone.

He elaborated, stating that, “35 workers died due to falling from high, 12 by being hit by a hard object, six by electrification, two from suffocation, one by drowning and five by fire. In addition, 1003 people have been hospitalized due to workplace accidents, of which 34 victims are women and the rest men”.

Park Ranger Assistant Dead, Worker Injured Due to Unsafe Workplace Conditions

In two recent workplace accidents, park ranger assistant died in Khaf City and a worker was injured severely in Mashhad City. On December 9, a national park ranger assistant who had been injured during the patrol died from injuries. Last Wednesday, a worker was injured while drilling a water well.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rokna News Outlet, a fifty year old worker was trapped in a well due to falling walls. The rescue team and firemen finally could pull him out of the debris.

In another workplace accident, as reported to IRNA News Agency, Abdolahad Sarboozi, a national park ranger assistant in Khaf County, fell from his motorcycle due to a bumpy road and was injured severely. On December 4, he died in the hospital.

Two Workers Killed Due to Unsafe Workplace Conditions in Zanjan and Mahabad

On Saturday, November 27 and Sunday, November 28th,  two workers lost their lives in workplace accidents in Mahabad and Zanjan cities, respectively.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rokna news, on Sunday, November 28,  a worker was killed in an explosion at a welding workshop in Zanjan City. Jafari Roohi, head of Zanjan’s Emergency Medical Center, commented on the incident.

“Two ambulances were dispatched to the spot. The injured man, 30 years old, had been killed right after the explosion,” Roohi said. He added that the victim died due to the explosion of a gas tank in a welding workshop.

In Mahabad, according to ILNA, a construction worker fell from the third floor of an under-construction building and lost his life.

“Today, a-31 year-old worker who was concreting a column construction fell from the third floor and died immediately,” the Mahabad Chief of Police commented.

Two Workers Killed in Mahshahr and Isfahan Due to Unsafe Workplace Conditions

On Tuesday, November 23 and Wednesday, November 24,  two workers were killed in workplace accidents in Mahshahr and Isfahan respectively.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Mehr News Agency, a worker was killed on Tuesday in Tondgovian Petrochemical Factory located in Bandar Mahshahr. The worker was injured severely while he was repairing a ventilation system, and then passed away in hospital.

In another workplace accident, in Isfahan, on Wednesday, November 24, a construction worker who was a native of Afghanistan lost his life in a falling debris accident during the demolition of a building by an excavator.

“This accident took place at 13:25 and was reported to the fire department,” the spokesperson Municipality Fire and Safety Services Organization stated. “The firefighters dispatched from stations 18 and 6 and reached the spot as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the worker who was caught in the debris had been killed right after the accident.”

One Worker Killed and Seven Injured Due to Unsafe Workplace Conditions

In two separate recent accidents, several child workers were injured and one worker was killed in unsafe work environments.

On Wednesday, November 17, in a workplace accident in Meybod City, seven workers, some of whom are underage, were injured due to gas poisoning. In another workplace accident in Rajai Shahr in Karaj, a worker was killed after falling off a wall in a construction pit.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting IRIB News Agency, in an industrial zone in Meybod city, seven workers, several of whom are minors, were poisoned by a gas leak at their workplace and hospitalized.

“On Wednesday morning, seven people with symptoms of gas poisoning were transferred to the Hospital Imam Jafar by the emergence 115 of Meybod County “, the head of the Emergency Department of Meybod city commented. “These workers of a workhouse in Meybod Industrial zone, aged from 17 to 24 years old, have been hospitalized.”

According to IRNAN, the spokesperson of the fire department and the Municipal Safety Services of Karaj reported the death of a worker due to a non-standard excavation in a construction project.

“The emergency team reached the spot after three minutes and pulled the body out of the construction pit”, the spokesperson commented.

Three Workers Killed and One Injured Due to Unsafe Workplace Conditions

A total of three workers have been killed and one injured in recent accidents that were brought about by unsafe workplace conditions.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rokna, on November 2, in three workplace accidents in Qorveh, Mahabad and Hafshejan cities, three workers lost their lives and one more was injured.

Ali Naseri, the head of the fire department in Qorveh announced the death of a worker due to the fire that broke out in a bakery.

“In a bakery in a district in the center city of Qorveh, a gas leak from a gas pipe, which had been branched off illegally to be used for bread baking machine, caused a fire in this bakery,”  Naseri commented. “After the neighbors reported the fire, the fire department dispatched the firefighting team to the spot. The firefighters saved two workers from the fire. One of them had severe burns, who was transferred to the hospital.”

The head of the pre-hospital emergency care unit of Qorveh Shahrokh Mohammadi revealed that the 55-year-old baker died in a hospital in Sanandaj city due to severe burns in several parts of his body.

It is worth noting that many bakeries in both urban and rural areas use off-brand gas lines which are not up to code, and this can lead to gas leaks and fires.

In another workplace accident in Mahabad, a worker was poisoned by carbon monoxide gas.

“Following an emergency call, the Emergency Center of Police 110 sent a team to the spot,” the police commander of Mahabad stated. “Preliminary examination of the emergency team revealed the victim, a 50-year-old man, has died of poisoning due to inhaling carbon monoxide gas while he was asleep.”

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, two months after a work accident, in a sugar factory in Hafshjan city in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, one worker died from severe injuries. Reportedly, the victim died from a neck fracture after eight heavy sugar bags fell on top of on him.

“The height of the sugar bag piles should not be more than 1.8 meters,” HSE manager of Hafshjan sugar factory Arash Heyday said. “The government has to take action to unload these warehouses. However, because of the delay in unloading and lack of room, we have to make higher stacks which endanger the workers.”

Three Workers Killed and Two Injured in Workplace Accidents in Birjand and Nazarabad

This Saturday, October 30th, two fatal workplace accidents took place in Birjand and Nazarabad.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ILNA, two were killed while working in an underground aqueduct in Birjand. On Saturday at 9 am, two workers died working on dredging a Qanat tunnel after the wall collapsed. Only after many hours of effort and using an excavator was the rescue team able to pull the bodies out from the debris.

On the same day, according to HRANA, quoting Rokna,  one died and two others were injured in Nazarabad after being electrocuted while working on a utility pole for the Nazarabad Power Distribution Company.

In recent months, many workers have died due to Debris falling in the wall or Qanat, which, according to experts, is caused by a failure to take workplace safety measures. Iran ranks 102 in workplace safety out of 189 countries.

Three workers, Including a Child, Killed in Zahedan Due to Unsafe Conditions; One Worker Injured in Shiraz

In recent days, in Zahedan, three workers, including a child, died in a work accident. In Shiraz, one additional worker was injured. Iran ranks 102nd in workplace safety out of 189 countries.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rokna, on Thursday, October 7, a worker was injured severely at the workplace. A young worker’s hand stuck between a trolley and wall lift while moving items to the top floor of the store. After firefighters freed his hand, the emergency response team transferred him to the hospital.

According to Baloch Campaign, In Zahedan, on Tuesday, October 5, three workers, one of whom was a minor, lost their lives while digging a well due to falling well walls.

Two of these workers have been identified as  16-year-old Naser Ghanbarzehi and Musa Ghanbarzehi.
