Four Inmates Executed in Qom, Babol, Zahedan, and Imminent Execution Awaited in Zabol

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on July 30, an inmate identified as Hamid Asgarinia, convicted of rape, was executed in Qom Prison.

Also, the Chief Justice of Qom province, citing from Fars News Agency, announced the execution of another inmate for rape in this prison took place in the last ten days.

According to Haal Vsh, on July 30, in Zahedan Prison, Baydollah Gorgij, 43, met a tragic fate as he was executed for drug-related crimes. In Babol Prison, Mohammad Arbab, 30, an Afghan national, also was hanged due to the same charges. Both executions took place without prior notice to their families, depriving them of a final visitation.

Adding to the alarming situation, Asadollah Amini, 32, another Afghan national, has been transferred to solitary confinement in Zabol Prison, where he awaits an imminent execution for drug-related crimes.

Mohammad-Javad Vafaie Sani Sentenced to Death After Retrial

In a recent development at the Mashhad Revolutionary Court, political prisoner Mohammad-Javad Vafaie Sani has been handed a death sentence. This verdict comes after the Supreme Court had initially overturned the previous death sentence and ordered a retrial at another branch court.

Breaking the news, Babak Paknia, Vafaie’s lawyer, disclosed that despite the Supreme Court’s argument against the death sentence, the court has once again sentenced him to death. The lawyer has vowed to appeal for a retrial within the moratorium period.

According to Paknia, Vafaie has been accused of “spreading corruption on earth” and “arson of property, including the Government Penitentiary Building.” Following this latest ruling, Vafaie was granted a heavy bail, which unfortunately he was unable to afford, leading to his continued detention.

The case has taken a series of twists and turns, with the Supreme Court eventually overturning the previous verdict, leading to the transfer of the case to another branch court.

Vafaie, a 26-year-old boxing coach, was arrested in March of 2020 by security forces in Mashhad city.

 

Three Inmates Executed for Drug-Related Crimes in Hamedan

On July 17, 2023, three inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in Hamedan Prison.

The Human Rights Advocacy and Humanitarian Association (HRAHA) has identified the inmates as Abbas Rahmani, Mohsen Yaghooti, and Farrokhi.

Three Inmates Executed in Ghezel Hesar for Drug-Related Crimes

On July 18, 2023, three inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in Ghezel (Qezel) Hesar Prison, Karaj.

The individuals identified by HRANA as Siamak Hayatbini, Moslem Havasizadeh, and Seyed Mansour Seyedi were transferred to solitary confinement a day before their executions.

Four Inmates Executed in Ilam and Jiroft

According to reports, four inmates have been executed in Ilam and Jiroft Prisons for their involvement in murder and drug-related offenses.

Haal Vsh confirmed that on July 13, Saman Salari (33), Mehdi Shariati (35), and Rashid Dahmardeh (50) were executed at Jiroft Prison, located in Kerman province. Dahmardeh’s arrest dates back to 2018-2019 when he was accused of drug-related crimes. The other two prisoners were convicted of murder.

Additionally, the Iran Human Rights Organization reported the execution of Hossein-Ali Zarooni in Ilam Prison on July 12. Zarooni was charged with the murder of his sister’s husband and had allegedly killed two police officers during an escape from a police checkpoint.

Public Execution of Two Inmates in Fuladshahr for Police Officer’s Murder

On July 13, 2023, two inmates were executed publicly for killing a police officer in Fuladshahr, located in the Isfahan province, as reported by Fars News Agency.

The condemned individuals, identified as Mohammad Ghaedi, aged 38, and Sadegh Mahmoodi Baram, aged 25, were found guilty of fatally shooting Police Officer Ehsan Nasiri during a group altercation that occurred between October and November 2021.

The death sentences were initially handed down by the Isfahan Revolutionary Court and Criminal Court, under the jurisdiction of Judge Morteza Barati. Subsequently, the Supreme Court confirmed the verdict, leading to the implementation of the public execution.

Execution of Five Inmates, Including Female Prisoner, in Rajai Shahr Prison

On July 12, 2023, Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj witnessed the execution of five individuals, one of whom was a woman, all convicted of murder.

HRANA has identified the executed woman as Fatemeh Yousefabadi. Just one day before her execution, she was transferred from Qarchak Prison to solitary confinement in Rajai Shahr Prison, where the final verdict was carried out.

HRANA is working on identifying three other inmates.

Arak, July 9, 2023 – Two individuals convicted of drug-related crimes were executed today in Arak Prison, according to HRANA, the Human Rights Activists News Agency.

These inmates had previously received the death penalty from judicial authorities for their involvement in drug offenses. HRANA is currently working to identify the names and backgrounds of the executed prisoners.

Two Defendants in the “Shah-Cheragh” Case Publicly Executed

On July 8, 2023, two individuals involved in the “Shah-Cheragh” legal case, namely Mohammad Ramez Rashidi and Seyed Naeem Hashemi Ghetali, were executed publicly on a street in Shiraz, as reported by Mizan, the judiciary’s news agency.

The Shiraz Revolutionary Court, presided by Judge Mahmood Sadati, sentenced them on March 18, 2023. Additionally, three other defendants in this case, namely Mohammad Rahmani, Mostafa Amani, and Hamid Allah Kabuli, were given prison sentences of 25, 15, and five years, respectively.

The charges against all five defendants included “enmity against God (moharebeh),” “spreading corruption,” and “Baghi (armed rebellion),” as indicted on December 8, 2022.

The terrorist attack took place on October 26, 2022, at the Shah Cheragh mosque in Shiraz, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 13 lives. In April 2022, Chief Justice Kazem Mousavi announced that “the main perpetrator was killed during the attack, and two out of the five defendants, in this case, have been sentenced to death and will be executed publicly in the near future.”

Execution of Four Inmates in Khorramabad and Bandar Abbas Revealed

On July 2, 2023, an inmate convicted of drug-related crimes was executed in Parseylun Prison, located in Khorramabad Province.

The individual has been identified as Yaser Golzardian, according to HRANA. Having been transferred to solitary confinement the day prior, he awaited his execution.

As of the time of this report, no official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have made any mention of this particular execution.

In a separate incident, Mizan, the judiciary’s news agency, disclosed the execution of three inmates at Bandar Abbas prison on July 4. These death-row prisoners had received sentences of death for committing rape. The individuals, working as nurses and technicians, reportedly exploited their positions to sexually assault victims by administering anesthesia under the pretense of a beauty procedure. However, the report did not provide details about the identities of the executed individuals.
