Seven Executions Carry out Across Various Prisons in Iran

In recent days, seven inmates, including a woman, met their fate through executions carried out in Tabriz, Shiraz, Qom, Birjand, and Zahedan Prisons.

According to the Iran Human Rights Organization, on Tuesday, September 5, Ali Abbas Najari (Najjari), aged 37, was executed in Shiraz’s Adelabad Prison. He had been convicted of murder three years ago.

The Rokna News Agency also reported the execution of an inmate, identified only by his first name, Saeed, aged 34, in Tabriz Prison. He was found guilty of taking a life during a group altercation four years ago.

On Friday, September 8, a female inmate, who had been convicted of murder, was executed in Qom Prison, as reported by the Iran Human Rights Organization.

Furthermore, Haal Vsh reported the execution of Saeed Sanjarani, aged 23, who had been convicted of drug-related crimes in Birjand Prison on September 10. Additionally, three inmates, one of whom was identified as Mohammad Narui (Narooie), aged 27, were executed in Zahedan Prison on September 9. Narui had been convicted of murder three years ago, while the other two were found guilty of murder in a joint case seven years ago.

Death Sentence and Lengthy Imprisonment for Four Baneh Residents

Yousef Ahmadi has been sentenced to death by the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court for his involvement in armed rebellion (Baghi). In the same legal case, other defendants, Mohammad Karimi, Baset Karimi, and Mohammad Feyzi, have received prison sentences of 25, 20, and 20 years, respectively.

According to reports from Kurdpa, Judge Saeedi presided over the proceedings against these residents of Baneh. During the trial, evidence of their alleged collaboration with a political opposition party in Kurdistan was presented as the basis for the charges, as shared by a Kurdpa staff member with HRANA.

These individuals were initially apprehended by security forces in April 2020 and subsequently transferred to Sanandaj prison after the conclusion of the interrogation process at a security detention facility. Despite these developments, specific details pertaining to their case and the actions underlying the charges remain undisclosed.

Execution of Woman in Vakilabad Prison

On September 4, 2023, Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad witnessed the execution of a female inmate who had been convicted of murder.

Identified by HRANA as Mahboobeh Roshandel, she was just 27 years old and a mother to a six-year-old child.

Roshandel was found guilty of killing her mother-in-law.

A source close to Roshandel’s family shared with HRANA that during her years of incarceration, her own family did not allow her to see her child, resulting in severe depression.
The source also disclosed, “Recently, the victim’s family had initially expressed their intention to pardon Roshandel, but regrettably, they later reconsidered and changed their decision.”

Two Inmates Executed in Hamedan Prison

Hamedan Prison, August 29, 2023 – Two inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed today.

The individuals, identified as Hamed Sargazi and Esmaeil Hajizadeh by HRANA, were put to death after being found guilty of drug offenses that led to their death sentences three years ago.

The prevalence of capital punishment in cases involving drug offenses continues to be a concern. According to the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran, 457 cases warranting the death penalty were reported in 2022. Notably, nearly 43% of these cases stemmed from drug-related charges, shedding light on an ongoing issue.

Three Inmates Convicted of Murder Executed across Different Prisons

On August 26 and 27, 2023, three inmates who had previously been found guilty of murder faced execution in separate instances across Zarand, Saqqez, and Aligudarz.

According to HRANA, on August 26, Milad Yazdanpanah, 30 years old, was executed in Zarand Prison, located in Kerman province. Sources close to his family informed HRANA that Yazdanpanah had been sentenced to death six years ago following a conviction for murder.

Kurdpa reported the execution of Vafa Kharamani, an inmate, on August 27, in Saqqez prison. Two years prior, he had received a death sentence for committing murder.

Finally, Iran Human Rights Organization reported the execution of Sobhan Efterkhareddin, aged 35, in Aligudarz, situated in Lorestan Province, on August 27. Efterkhareddin had been found guilty of murder approximately three and a half years ago.

Three Inmates Convicted of Drug Crimes Executed at Ghezel Hesar Prison

Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj carried out the execution of three inmates on August 23. The individuals had been sentenced for drug-related offenses.

Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) has identified the inmates as Rahman Ebrahimi, Kiumars Rezaie, and Behrooz Rahmani. Ebrahimi and Rezaie had been serving ten-year sentences, while Rahmani had been imprisoned for three years.

At the time of writing, no official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have reported on these executions.

Five Inmates Executed in Qazvin, Kerman, and Kahnuj

On August 21, 2023, the lives of five individuals came to a solemn end yesterday as they were executed in separate incidents across Kerman, Kahnuj, and Qazvin.

According to Haal Vsh, Kerman Prison officials executed three death-row prisoners, identified as Saeed Rigi, approximately 40 years of age, Abdolghafoor Toomaj Turkman, and Amir Rahimi. Three years ago, in two separate cases, they were sentenced to death by the Kerman Revolutionary Court for drug offenses.

Haal Vsh also reported the execution of Rasoul Narui (Narooie), aged 29, in Kahnuj Prison, located in Kerman Province. He had been found guilty of murder four years ago.
Adding to this list of tragic events, Iran Human Rights Organization verified the executions of two more inmates in Qazvin Prison. Jamil Abdollahzadeh, aged 41, and Mehran Amiri, approximately 45 years old, were put to death due to their involvement in drug-related crimes.

On August 21, 2023, an inmate previously convicted of drug-related crimes faced execution within the walls of Sheyban Prison in Ahvaz.

The inmate has been identified by HRANA as Abdolreza Ghalavand. A resident of Andimeshk and a father to a single child, Ghalavand had spent the past decade behind bars.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country reported this execution at the time of writing.

On Wednesday, August 16, an inmate found guilty of drug-related crimes was executed in Dezful Prison.

HRANA has verified the identity of the individual as Ebrahim Mouloud Pour, who had been imprisoned for five years.

As of now, no official statements from authorities or domestic media channels have provided coverage of this execution.

On August 13, the Bam Prison officials carried out the execution of two inmates found guilty of drug-related offenses.

HRANA has identified one of them as Hamed Jamshidi.
