Ghafar Rezaian Arrested in Tehran

On May 7, 2023, security forces arrested Ghafar Rezaian, a resident of Zanjan, in Tehran and took him to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on May 7, 2023, Ghafar Rezaian was arrested in Tehran.

According to an informed who spoke to HRANA, the arrest was allegedly due to Rezaian’s online activism, as he had been previously threatened with arrest by security forces.

The institution responsible for the arrest and Rezaian’s current whereabouts remain unknown.

Ghafar Rezaian faced other arrests and convictions for his activism.

 

 

 

Iran Protests: Mina Alikhani Sentenced to One Year and 74 Lashes

The Zanjan Court of Appeals upheld the verdict against Mina Alikhani arrested at recent protests. Initially, the Criminal Court of Zanjan sentenced her to one year in prison and 74 lashes.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Mina Alikhani, one of the people arrested at recent protests, was sentenced to one year and flagellation on the charge of “disturbing public order.”

Three Inmates Executed in Neyshabur and Zanjan Prisons

On October 13 and 15, 2022, three inmates convicted of murder and drug-related crimes were executed in Neyshabur and Zanjan Prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Human Rights Organization, on October 13 and 15, 2022, three inmates identified as Reza Gharelu, Ali Mohammad Saeedi and Sadegh Afkandeh (age 43) were executed in Neyshabur and Zanjan Prisons.

According to an informed source, Gharelu was convicted of killing one of his friends three years ago. Afkandeh was sentenced to death on drug-related charges four years ago. Mohammad Saeedi had been convicted of murder.

None of these executions has been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

 

Nine Inmates Executed in Zanjan, Birjand, and Zahedan Prisons.

Nine inmates have been executed in Zanjan, Birjand, and Zahedan Prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Haal Vsh, on September 10, 2022, the Zahedan Prison officials executed five inmates, including a woman. 

Four of the inmates have been identified as Khaled Raisi, 38, Amrollah Basij, 27, Abdolnasir She Bakhsh, 42, and Hooshang Kurd, 27. All have been convicted of murder. The female prisoner is still unidentified. 

Haal Vsh also reported the execution of an inmate identified as Mansoor Barahooie in Birjand Prison. Birjand Revolutionary Court sentenced Barahooie to death on drug-related charges in 2019.

On September 11, Iran Human Rights Organization further reported the execution of two inmates identified as Mehdi Aghoosh, 30, and Hassan Aghamohammadi, 27, in Zanjan and Isfahan Prisons, both convicted of murder. Four years ago, Aghoosh was accused and convicted of killing a man in a group fight. Aghamohammadi was convicted of murder three years ago.

Iran Human Rights Organization has additionally reported that an inmate identified as Ahmad Panahi Khanghah, 40, convicted of murder was executed in Ardabil Prison.

These executions have not been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at least five protests took place in Iran.

The workers of Agro-Industry Complex Karoon held a protest at their workplace. The workers said that unlike promises made during the last negotiation, their demands have not yet been addressed.

The firefighters in Karaj City gathered in front of the Municipality to protest against their poor living conditions, unpaid wages and benefits including extra pay for working night shifts.

For the second consecutive day, the workers of the vegetable oil company Jahan held a protest in front of the Ministry of Labour in Zanjan. The Factory managers have laid off 60 out of 85 workers due to financial issues.

In Shiraz, a group of working and retired workers of the vegetable oil company Narges protested against low wages and their poor living conditions. The protestors said that the factory directors sell the factory amenities, lands and machinery for their own profit.

A number of citizens who have been victims of the fraudulent activities of two car dealership companies Pars and Karma demonstrated before the company to ask for the apprehension of two fugitives company managers.

HRANA’s Daily Review of Protests in Iran

On Saturday, July 23, at least six protests took place in Iran.

A group of workers of Ahvaz National Steel Industrial Group gathered before a member of the parliament’s office as well as the governor-general’s office to demand levelling up wages and the implementation of the Job Classification Plan.

The residents of a village in Zanjan Province held a protest before the governor-general’s office to protest against a drinking water shortage and the local authorities’ inattention to the water supply.

Ahvaz Jondishapur University of Medical Sciences interns held a protest against the lack of proper amenities before the central building of the university.

A number of Iran-Iraq war veterans gathered before the parliament in Tehran to protest against their poor living conditions.

A group of shopkeepers and merchants in Kish Island held a protest against local authorities’ incompetence in attracting tourists to Kish. One of the protestors said, “Our houses proved to be resistant against earthquake in the recent earthquake, but due to the lack of accurate information in the media, tourists are afraid to come here.”

A number of citizens gathered before Bank Maskan branches in Tehran to protest not receiving their pre-purchased apartments.

The pensioners of the Social Security Organization protested against low pensions in Karaj, Ahvaz, Isfahan, Arak, Babol, Mashhad, Tabriz, Zanjan, Kerman, Ilam, Khorramshahr, Tehran, Khorramabad, Shushtar, Sirjan, Ardabil, Sirjan, Rasht, Ramhormoz, Sari, Kermanshah, Birjand, Hamedan, Qazvin and Dezful.

In Behbahan, the green maintenance workers of the Municipality gathered to demand their unpaid wages.

Coming from different cities, a number of farmers active in poultry and ostrich farming held a protest in front of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

A group of interns of the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences protested before a hospital in Tehran.

Continuing their protests against the insufficient annual pension increase, the pensioners rallied in Shushtar, Shush, Zanjan, Isfahan, Sari, Dezful, Karaj, Ahvaz, Abadan, Khorramabad, Hamedan and Kerman. They chanted slogans against the government and called the president a liar for failing to keep his promises. In Arak, the protest turned violent by security forces.

A number of citizens, who have lost their money in the recent robbery of Iran Safe Deposit Boxes of Melli Bank, protested in front of the central building of the Judiciary in Tehran. They demanded the return of their stolen money.

On June 6, 2022, dozens of safe deposit boxes from Melli Bank were stolen by some burglars. One day after, a protest took place, which turned violent by security forces. According to some witnesses, the police and security agents used live ammunition against the protestors.

On Monday, June 20, 2022, a number of protests took place in different cities across Iran.

The laid-off workers of Ahan Ajin Mining Company, working in the Sungun copper mine, gathered and protested before this company office.

The Social Security Organization’s pensioners continued their protest for levelling up pensions in the cities of Kerman, Rasht and Zanjan.

A number of workers of the Lali Municipality in Khuzestan Province gathered and protested against delayed wags and insurance payments.

A group of truck owners protested in front of the Fuel Transportation Management department to ask for their demands.

In Urmia city, a number of garbage truck drivers staged a strike in protest against low wages.

In Mashhad, the drivers of the Negin Pakhsh Company went on strike to ask for their demands.

Several Individuals Arrested for Live Stream Posts by Iran’s Cyber Police

The chief of Iran’s Cyber Police announced that several individuals have been arrested in several cities across the country for what he called inappropriate live videos on social media. He said that the individuals’ mobile phones have been confiscated and they have been indicted by the judicial authorities.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Mehr News Agency, a number of individuals have been arrested by the cyber police in Bushehr, Tehran, West Azerbaijan, Zanjan and Fars provinces.

Without revealing the identities and the number of the individuals who are arrested, Vahid Majid, the chief of Iran’s Cyber Police claimed, “from Bushehr, Tehran, West Azerbaijan, Zanjan and Fars, the members and heads of a gang, who were circulating inappropriate live video posts to promote corruption and money laundering were identified and apprehended.”
