HRANA’s Report on the Execution of 31 Prisoners in Recent Days

HRANA – In recent days, authorities in several prisons across Iran have carried out the execution of dozens of inmates on drug-related and murder charges. The pace of executions this year has been unprecedented compared to previous years.

 Four prisoners were executed in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad on drug-related charges. HRANA has confirmed the identities of two of them as Shamseddin (surname unknown), an Afghan national, and Alimardan Barani.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and responsible institutions have not publicly announced these executions.

From the beginning of this year until the end of October, the Iranian regime has executed 1,286 people, marking an unprecedented increase compared to previous years.

Seventeen Prisoners Executed in Various Prisons

HRANA – In the continuing surge of executions across Iran, dozens of prisoners have been executed in various prisons in recent days.

According to HRANA, on Wednesday, November 5, a prisoner named Kiumars Gholami was executed in Gorgan Prison. Mr. Gholami had previously been arrested on murder charges and sentenced to death by a criminal court.

On Saturday, November 8, eight prisoners were executed in several prisons across the country:

In Khorramabad Prison, Yazdan Chegini was executed on murder charges.

Two prisoners were hanged in Kermanshah Prison on murder charges; HRANA has identified one of them as Yaroli Hajizadeh.

In Yasuj Prison, Peyman Ghasemi was executed for murder.

Tabriz Prison saw the execution of three prisoners, Omid Feyzi, Zahra Mirghafari (female), and Ehsan Amini, on drug-related charges.

In Nahavand Prison, Vali Karam-Dastar was executed for murder.

On Sunday, November 9, the wave of executions continued with more prisoners executed in different prisons across Iran:

Hamid Naderi in Andimeshk Prison for murder;

Mehran Hosseinpanah and Ahmad Sajjadi in Arak Prison on drug-related charges;

Abdollah Tajik and an Afghan national in Taybad Prison, both on drug-related charges;

Habib Namazi in Karaj Central Penitentiary for murder;

Two prisoners in Qom Prison on drug-related charges, one of whom HRANA identified only by the surname Beiranvand.

And lastly, today, November 10, Abbas Souri in Dorud Prison was executed on murder charges.

As of the time of this report, none of these executions have been announced by prison officials or relevant authorities.

Eight Prisoners Executed Across Iran Over the Past Four Days

HRANA has reported the execution of eight prisoners across various prisons in Iran over the past four days. Six of the executed individuals had been sentenced to death on drug-related charges, and two for murder.

On Saturday, November 1, the death sentence of a prisoner in Bojnurd Prison was carried out. HRANA has identified this prisoner as Hashem Mardani. According to information obtained by HRANA, Mr. Mardani had previously been arrested on charges of murder and later sentenced to death by the Criminal Court.

On Sunday, November 2, Mohammad Ali Golmohammadi, a prisoner convicted of drug-related offenses, was executed in Malayer Prison. On the same day, the execution of an Afghan national named Khodayar (last name unknown), who had also been sentenced to death for drug-related crimes, was carried out in Taybad Prison. Another prisoner, Abbas Sad-Kharvi, was executed in Sabzevar Prison. All three had been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

On Monday, November 3, Varahmad Azizi was executed in Birjand Prison on drug-related charges. That same day in Zanjan Prison, another death-row prisoner convicted of murder was hanged.

On Tuesday, November 4, the death sentences of two prisoners previously convicted of drug-related offenses were carried out in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan. HRANA has identified one of them as Amir Goudarzi.

At the time of this report, the executions of these prisoners have not been announced by prison officials or other relevant authorities.

Prisoner Executed in Taybad Prison

HRANA – On Wednesday morning, October 15, 2025, the death sentence of a prisoner previously convicted of murder was carried out in Taybad Prison.

HRANA has identified the individual as Maziar Fathi. Based on information obtained by HRANA, Mr. Fathi had previously been arrested on murder charges and later sentenced to death by the Criminal Court.

As of the time of this report, prison officials and responsible institutions have not yet announced the execution.

In 2024, according to 812 reports compiled by HRANA, the Iranian regime executed 930 individuals in its prisons—marking the highest number of executions in the past 12 years. Despite the scale of these executions, prison officials and other relevant authorities publicly acknowledged only 6% of them, highlighting the regime’s lack of transparency and accountability.

Afghan Student Sara Gowhari Held Without Charges in Ministry of Intelligence Facility

HRANA – Sara Gowhari (Gohari), an Afghan student residing in Tehran, has been detained for 12 days and remains in legal limbo at the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Mashhad.

Her attorney, Reza Shafakhah, announced yesterday that Sara informed her family during a phone call that she is being held in the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Mashhad. According to Shafakhah, her family has traveled to Mashhad to pursue her case.

Sara Gowhari was arrested on July 6 by security forces at the Taybad border while conducting independent research on the deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran.

As of the time of this report, no information has been released regarding the charges against her.

Sara Gowhari, 29, is an Afghan national and a sociology student at the University of Tehran.

Prisoner Executed in Taybad Prison on Drug Charges

HRANA News Agency – At dawn on Monday, June 30, a prisoner previously sentenced to death for drug-related offenses was executed in Taybad Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, the executed individual was an Afghan national. His identity is currently being verified by HRANA. Sources indicate that the prisoner had been arrested on drug-related charges and was later sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, the execution has not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

In 2024, Iranian prisons witnessed the execution of 930 inmates. According to HRANA’s data, the number of executions carried out by the Iranian regime’s judiciary has risen steadily over the past five years. The percentage of executions related to drug charges has also increased year after year.

Three Inmates Executed in Taybad for Drug Offenses

On April 21, 2024, three inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in Taybad Prison in Razavi Khorasan province, according to a report by Haal Vsh.

Two of the inmates have been identified as Esmaeil Esmaeil-Zadeh, 37, and Mohammad-Amin Mohammad-Pour, around 38, both from Iran’s Sunni community. The third inmate executed is an Afghan national, whose identity has not been disclosed.

These individuals were sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Taybad four years ago.

No official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have provided coverage of these executions at the time of writing.

The reports from the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists for the year 2023 reveal a concerning prevalence of executions for drug offenses in Iran, constituting 56.4% of the total executions. Executions of Two Inmates Reported in Taybad and Khorramabad Prisons

The Iran Human Rights Organization has reported the execution of two inmates in separate incidents.

Mohammad-Saleh Amini, 35 years old, was executed in Taybad Prison, situated in Razavi Khorasan Province, for his involvement in drug-related crimes, a conviction dating back two years.

Additionally, the organization documented the execution of Taher Do Abi, 43 years old, in Khorramabad Prison, Lorestan province. A resident of Sabzevar and a married father of two, Taher was found guilty of murder three years ago.

No official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have provided coverage of these executions at the time of writing. The lack of official information raises concerns about transparency and accountability in the execution process.

According to data compiled by the Center of Statistics of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA), between October 10, 2022, and October 8, 2023, a total of 659 individuals were executed by hanging in Iran, representing a 24% increase compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. Nine Inmates Executed in Minab and Taybad Prisons

On September 7, 2022, nine inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in Minab and Taybad Prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Haal Vsh, seven inmates were executed in Minab Prison.

The inmates have been identified as Soleyman Narooie, Abdolghafoor Bahadorzadeh Rigi, Abbas Nobakht, Mohammad Zobeiri, Mohammad Kazemi, and Mohammad-Reza Hedayati.

Iran Human Rights Organization also reports the execution of two inmates in Taybad Prison in Khorasan Razavi Province. These individuals have been identified as Khalghollah Fahim-Zadeh who is an Afghan National, and Hassan Hagh Verdi-Zadeh.

Wave of Mass Executions Sweeps Prisons in Northeast Iran

HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists, has received several reports in the last two weeks regarding mass executions in prisons in the north of the country, including Taybad, Torbat-e Jam, and Mashhad prisons.

According to received reports, the executed prisoners were mostly foreign nationals with drug-related charges.Today, Thursday, September 23, nine prisoners were transferred for the execution of the death sentence in Torbat-e Jam prison, of which, eight were executed. The identity of one of them, 22 years old Mohammad Sadeghi, has been verified by HRANA.

Last week, at least seven prisoners were executed in Mashhad prison. Two of the executed men had family ties with Mohammad Sadeghi. Also, at least five have been executed in Taybad prison in recent days, according to reports received by HRANA. Because many of the executed are foreign nationals, information is difficult to obtain about their identities. The identities of these individuals are still being investigated by HRANA.

Iran ranks first in the world in executions per capita, according to international organizations. The Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) reported that between January 1 and December 20 of 2020, at least 236 citizens were executed.

One of these citizens was executed publicly, and two were juvenile offenders. An additional 95 citizens were sentenced to death. According to the same report, more than 72% of executions in Iran are not reported by the government or the judiciary, which human rights organizations call “secret” executions.

The execution of these prisoners has not been announced by the Iranian media or official sources as of this writing, nor authorities have provided transparent information.
